Speaker Johnson on Day Two of the Democrat Shutdown: Chuck Schumer Continues to Lead the Democrat Party Off a Cliff

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04)

WASHINGTON — On Day Two of the Democrat-led government shutdown, Speaker Johnson appeared on CBS’ CBS Mornings and Fox Business’ Kudlow to discuss Chuck Schumer’s refusal to reopen the government and criticized mainstream media outlets and Congressional Democrats for lying about their bid to restore healthcare funding to illegal aliens in exchange for keeping the government open.

Watch Speaker Johnson on CBS here, on Fox Business here.

On Democrats lying about providing funding for healthcare for illegal aliens:

We stood and did a House Republican Leadership press conference this morning in front of every media outlet in the United States, and I walked them through specifically title and verse and page number of the Senate Democrats own measure that they filed into the record, their counter proposal, continuing resolution that says all these things. Now, I’m going to tell all your listeners, you can pull this up and go through it yourself. Go to speaker.gov, go to the press release page. You’ll see all this. You can access their own legislation, not Republican talking points.

I will direct everybody to page of 57 of that document that Chuck Schumer filed and go to Section 2141. It says it right there in the black letter. They want to repeal the important changes we’ve made to the law in the one big beautiful bill, the Working Families Tax Cut, Larry, that’s where we cut out all the taxpayer funding to illegals and Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are staking this entire game on their demand for us to, to unwind that, reverse it and make sure that taxpayer funds go to aliens again. We’re not doing it.

On the American people disapproving of the Democrat-led shutdown:

The polling reflects it. I mean, the New York Times, their own poll said 65% of Americans polls said, please, Democrats, don’t shut the government down just because you don’t get what you want. People understand that this is far simpler than what the Democrats are trying to obscure in their messaging. We did communicate this directly to Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries in the Oval Office with the President. The President and I and Leader John Thune in the Senate were all united, a hundred percent, zero daylight between us, and we said, gentlemen: keep the government open and then we’ll have all these discussions and debates. That’s our system, Larry. That’s how it’s supposed to work, but they’ve decided to shut it all down.

On Democrats digging in further amid the government shutdown:

There’s no negotiation right now because the Democrats have dug in. You say I’m blaming the Democrats. I mean, these are objective facts. We passed in the House more than two weeks ago a clean continuing resolution. There are no partisan pills in this. There are no Republican priorities. It’s just an extension of current funding, Tony, so that we can keep the government open until November 21 to allow the appropriators in both parties to continue their good work. They’ve been working very hard in a bipartisan fashion to move the 12 appropriations bills. We just ran out of time because at the end of the fiscal year, September 30, they all were asking. Wait a minute. This is a very important. All we’re asking is that Senate Democrats do what they have always done in the past, every single time, and allow the additional clock. That’s it.

Bilirakis & Lee Lead 10th Annual Stars, Stripes, and Smiles Event – Offering Free Dental Care to Veterans as New Access Pilot Program Moves Forward

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Gus Bilirakis (FL-12)

Pasco County, FL – U.S. Representatives Gus Bilirakis and Laurel Lee are once again teaming up with Pasco-Hernando State College and the Pasco Dental Association to host their annual Stars, Stripes, and Smiles event. This community-driven initiative will provide urgent dental care—at no cost—to 100 military Veterans experiencing untreated dental pain and infection.  Local dentists have generously volunteered their time and expertise to support this effort. Modern, high-tech dental care  will be utilized at the event, featuring the use of digital scanners and 3D printed restorations. Veterans in need of dental services are encouraged to contact Congressman Bilirakis’s office at 727-232-2921 to register. Appointments will be scheduled on afirst-come, first-served basis.

Dental services provided during the event will include:

  • Professional cleanings
  • Tooth extractions
  • Dental fillings
  • Root Canal Therapy
  • Dental crowns

Oral health is essential to overall wellness, yet most Veterans are not eligible for dental benefits through the VA unless they are 100% disabled or have a service-connected dental injury,” said Congressman Bilirakis. “Our Veterans have sacrificed so much for our country—they deserve access to high-quality healthcare, including dental care.”

Recognizing this critical gap, Congressman Bilirakis has long advocated for expanded access to dental care for Veterans. Earlier this year, the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act was signed into law. The legislation includes a key provision from Bilirakis’s VETCARE Act, establishing a pilot program to provide dental care to Veterans with chronic health conditions currently being treated by the VA.  Currently, only about 9% of Veterans qualify for VA dental benefits. Studies show that untreated dental issues can worsen chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease, leading to increased healthcare costs. The new pilot program aims to demonstrate the long-term cost savings and health benefits of preventive dental care for Veterans.“This pilot program is a vital first step toward improving access to dental care for all Veterans and could ultimately reduce healthcare costs for the VA system as a whole,” Bilirakis added. While we work toward broader reform, I’m incredibly grateful to the Pasco Dental Association for stepping up now to provide critical care to our local heroes. Their generosity is truly inspiring.”

It is always an honor to join Congressman Bilirakis and our community partners for this event, said Representative Lee.  “Our Veterans have given so much to our nation, and ensuring they have access to high-quality dental care is a meaningful way to honor their service. I’m encouraged by the new pilot program expanding dental benefits through the VA, and I’m grateful to the local dentists and volunteers whose generosity is making a real difference for our Veterans.”

PHSC is proud to once again partner in the Stars, Stripes, and Smiles initiative, which continues to support the health of our veterans,” said Eric Hall, Ed.D., PHSC president. “Our dental faculty and dental hygiene students are honored to volunteer their skills alongside local dentists to give back to those who have given so much for our country.

Dr. Zack Kalarickal of the Pasco Dental Association emphasized the importance of the initiative,These heroes deserve a healthcare system that meets their full range of needs—including oral health. Until that day comes, it is our professional privilege to serve those who have served us.”

For more information or to schedule an appointment, Veterans should call Congressman Bilirakis’s office at 727-232-2921.  To learn more about this annual collaborative partnership, click here.

From Denial to Admission: Democrats Expose Themselves for Intentionally Shutting Down the Government

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04)

WASHINGTON — Two weeks ago, House Republicans passed a clean, nonpartisan, responsible CR to keep the government open. President Trump and Republicans in Congress stand united behind this commonsense plan. House and Senate Democrats have rejected it numerous times, demanding an additional $1.5 trillion in new partisan spending, and now they are scrambling to explain away the fact that Americans are learning their bill funnels nearly $200 billion in taxpayer benefits to non-Americans.

This is what Chuck Schumer wants the American people to believe:

But Chuck Schumer is wrong:

Even some Democrats and their Mainstream Media allies are beginning to admit that they know this is true:

Reporter: “Are Democrats demanding health care for illegal aliens?” Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.): Democrats are demanding healthcare for everybody.”

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.): “The amount of money actually is going towards people who are undocumented is a small portion of the Medicaid cuts or the Affordable Care Act.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper to Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.): “But what [Democrats] support does bring back funding for emergency Medicaid to hospitals, some of which does pay for undocumented immigrants and people who don’t have health insurance.”

Bloomberg’s Erik Wasson: “To be clear the full $1.4T they want isn’t to boost healthcare for undocumented. It’s a tiny fraction of that…”

Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.): “And if that means we got to shut this government down, so be it.”

Rep. Ben Cline Statement on Government Shutdown

Rep. Ben Cline Statement on Government Shutdown

VIRGINIA, October 2, 2025

Today, Congressman Ben Cline (VA-06) issued the following statement after the Democrat-led federal government shutdown:

“The House fulfilled its responsibility by passing a clean, bipartisan Continuing Resolution that would have kept the federal government open, ensured our troops were paid, safeguarded essential services, and maintained critical government operations. I was proud to support this commonsense measure,” said Rep. Ben Cline. “Unfortunately, Senate Democrats chose to put politics over people by rejecting this bill, forcing an unnecessary and entirely avoidable government shutdown. A CR is meant to fund government functions, not serve as a vehicle for partisan wish lists like taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants or funds for liberal media outlets. I urge Senate Democrats to set aside political games and work with Republicans to reopen the government and deliver the stability the American people expect and deserve.”

Congressman Ben Cline represents the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia. He previously was an attorney in private practice and served both as an assistant prosecutor and a Member of the Virginia House of Delegates. Cline and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Botetourt County with their two children.

Trump Cancels $1.1 Billion for WA Energy and Manufacturing Projects, Including Pacific NW Hydrogen Hub

Politically motivated cuts will cost jobs, raise energy bills

Washington, D.C., October 2, 2025

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement after the Department of Energy canceled funding for 11 energy and manufacturing projects in WA, including funding for the historic Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub, totaling $1.1 billion.

“President Trump’s campaign of political retribution continues, and hardworking Washingtonians are now part of the collateral damage. This politically motivated claw back of funds will result in significant job losses and increased utility bills in our state.”

“The President of the United States is playing politics by targeting states that did not vote for him. I will fight this decision to save Washington jobs and avoid another hike on our energy bills.”

Background:

  • The Department of Energy canceled a total of 223 projects in states that almost exclusively did not vote for President Trump totaling over $7.5 billion, including the 11 projects in Washington.
  • Recipients of these investments in Washington were to include the Pacific NW Hydrogen Hub, Washington State University, and PACCAR.
  • The Pacific NW Hydrogen Hub – which has enjoyed strong bipartisan support – was awarded $1 billion in 2023 to accelerate clean hydrogen technology, production, and deployment.
  • Similarly, yesterday, Trump canceled roughly $18 billion for the New York-New Jersey Gateway Program, a new train tunnel under the Hudson River to connect the two states, and New York City’s Second Avenue Subway line, in another act of retribution against Democrat-run states.

House Republican Leadership Press Conference: Day Two of the Democrat-Led Government Shutdown

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04)

WASHINGTON — Today, Speaker Johnson and House Republican Leadership held a press conference on Day Two of the Democrat-led government shutdown to highlight the Democrats’ lies about their own partisan counterproposal and address Democrat motivations for refusing to reopen the government.

“Real pain is being inflicted upon the American people because 44 Democrats in the Senate have voted for the third time to reject the completely non-partisan, completely clean, very simple 24-page continuing resolution that we passed in the House here two weeks ago,” Speaker Johnson said.

Watch the full press conference here

On Democrats’ counterproposal to restore illegal aliens receiving taxpayer-funded health care:

The Democrats counterproposal CR, the dirty CR we call it as opposed to the clean CR, would result in nearly $200 billion being spent on illegal aliens and other non-citizens. Let me be specific. This is just a few of the reforms that we put in that they want to repeal and reverse. A provision that closes the California loophole. Now, that’s a provision that’s also been adopted by states like New York and Michigan and Massachusetts. Other states have followed other blue states. The California loophole allows taxpayer funded Medicaid for illegal aliens. We eliminated that in the big, beautiful bill. Their repeal, their counteroffer is to repeal and reverse that, which would cost $34 billion of U.S. taxpayer funds. A provision that prohibits Medicaid from paying more for emergency care provided to illegal aliens than it does for American patients who are disabled or elderly or children. We eliminated that, and in their counterproposal that they have filed, that you can read yourself, they want to repeal that. It would cost taxpayers $28 billion.

They have counter proposed a provision that ends the Obamacare funding for non-citizens. The cost of that repeal would be $91 billion to all of you, taxpayers. Hardworking American citizens would be funding that. A provision that repeals the Obamacare special rule for immigrants that cost would be $27 billion for taxpayers, a provision that ends Medicaid funding for those improperly granted asylum and parole under President Biden’s open borders. The cost of that would be $6 billion. I think that’s actually a low estimate…The results of all this would be $200 billion at least, and taxpayer funded benefits going straight to illegal aliens.

On Democrats’ motivations for shutting down the government:

Now, the Democrats did something they’ve never done before. Chuck Schumer has led them all to vote against it. Everybody’s been discussing this for the last few days. Why in the world would Chuck Schumer do a 180-degree turn? Because he said passionately, as recently as March of this year on the same instrument, the same CR, that it would be reckless and irresponsible and dangerous to close down the federal government. Why did Chuck Schumer change his tune? Everybody knows that now he’s trying to avoid a challenge from his left flank in his next Senate reelection campaign, and he wants to avoid the scrutiny that he received for doing the right thing back in March because the Far-Left and the base, really went crazy on poor Chuck Schumer. And so, he changed his tune, and now they’re trying to pretend it’s about something completely different.

They have made a decision that they would rather give taxpayer funded benefits to illegal aliens than to keep the doors open for the American people to keep vital services, veteran services, health care and nutrition for women, infants, and children. They, they would rather not pay the troops and TSA agents and border patrol agents, they would rather stop services of FEMA in the middle of a hurricane season than to do the right thing for partisan political purposes. It is selfish, it’s reprehensible, and it is exactly the opposite of what they have all said themselves in their own words, very passionately. Every day until now, we’ve been playing the greatest hits loop here on a video right outside the Speaker’s office for days. You’ve all seen it. Make them answer for that.

RELEASE: HILL URGES SENATE DEMOCRATS TO END GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman French Hill (AR-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) today issued the following statement on the federal government shutdown.

“I came to Congress to solve problems and deliver for central Arkansas families. That’s why it’s so frustrating to watch Senate Democrats vote to shut down the government instead of voting for a clean, short-term funding bill—the same type of bill they’ve supported more than a dozen times in recent years, including just six months ago.

“Now, instead of doing the important work of helping our farmers, lowering costs for families, and strengthening our economy, Democrats have created an unnecessary, self-inflicted crisis that puts essential services at risk. Services for veterans and seniors will be scaled back. Our soldiers, Border Patrol agents, and air traffic controllers won’t receive their paychecks. And families who rely on food assistance have to worry about losing the help they need.

“I urge Senate Democrats to end the shutdown so we can get back to work. In the meantime, my offices will remain open, and my team and I are available to serve central Arkansas.”

Republican Health Care Crisis Threatens Coverage for Massachusetts Families

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA-03)

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee Co-Chair Lori Trahan (MA-03) released new data from the Massachusetts Health Connector and the House Budget Committee revealing the devastating impact of Republican health care policies that are driving up costs and stripping health coverage from hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents.“Massachusetts families should never have to choose between putting food on the table and keeping their health care coverage,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “But that’s exactly what will happen if President Trump and Congressional Republicans refuse to act. The data is clear: costs are skyrocketing, hundreds of thousands of Bay Staters are at risk of losing coverage, and families are already receiving notices warning them of higher premiums before open enrollment even begins. We owe it to hardworking families to protect their health care, and I won’t stop fighting until we do.”Earlier this year, Republicans in Congress passed the One Big, Ugly Bill that cut $1 trillion from Medicaid, the single largest cut to Americans’ health care in history. Despite repeated warnings that the bill would cause 15 million Americans to lose coverage, gut hospital budgets, and force seniors out of assisted living facilities, Donald Trump signed the bill into law. Now, Trump and Congressional Republicans are refusing to work with Democrats to extend the Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credits, which help millions of Americans afford lifesaving health care coverage. These credits are set to expire in December, but families are already receiving notices about skyrocketing premiums ahead of open enrollment in November.Together, these GOP policy choices have created a health care crisis for hardworking families across the country. In Massachusetts:

240,224 residents will lose health coverage, including 65,400 due to the expiring ACA tax credits.
337,000 residents will see their health care costs increase without an extension of the ACA credits.
A 60-year-old couple earning $82,800 will see their annual premiums increase by more than $14,100.
A family of four earning $64,000 will see their premiums rise by more than $2,500.
A family of four earning $129,800 will see their premiums increase by more than $9,200.

Without immediate action by Congress, millions of Americans could drop their health coverage because of unaffordable price hikes. Congresswoman Trahan has returned to Washington alongside House and Senate Democrats who are demanding that Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson negotiate a bipartisan agreement to protect Americans’ health care.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Discusses Rising Utility Costs in Bloomington with Local Leaders and Small Businesses Owners

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (8th District of Illinois)

BLOOMINGTON, IL – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) joined Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner Koos, State Rep. Sharon Chung, and local small business owners at Windy City Wieners to highlight how rising utility bills are straining families and businesses across central and southern Illinois. Windy City Weiners owner Steven Marifjeren recently saw his utility bill increase by nearly $1,000, underscoring the mounting challenges facing small businesses already squeezed by inflation and slowing demand. During his visit, Congressman Krishnamoorthi emphasized that these spikes in costs are directly tied to federal policy choices that have cut support for clean energy.

“Working families and small businesses are paying the price for President Trump’s reckless decision to kill wind and solar tax credits, which wiped out $22 billion in clean energy investments and 21,000 potential Illinois jobs in just six months,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. “That means higher bills, fewer jobs, and less reliable power when Illinois needs relief the most. I’m fighting to restore clean energy investments, lower utility costs, and build a resilient grid that keeps bills down and the lights on for Illinois families.”

Last month, Congressman Krishnamoorthi wrote to Secretary of Energy Chris Wright urging immediate action to address skyrocketing utility costs and the harmful impacts of Trump administration policies that are undermining clean energy projects nationwide. The Congressman’s letter is available here. The visit also comes following an op-ed Congressman Krishnamoorthi wrote in The Southern Illinoisan last month to highlight the impact of skyrocketing energy costs on folks across Illinois.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi Condemns Militarized Immigration Raids in Downtown Chicago

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (8th District of Illinois)

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) issued the following statement after federal immigration agents in camouflage and carrying long guns detained families in downtown Chicago and escalated enforcement at the Broadview ICE facility:

“Marching armed agents through our streets and detaining people based on ‘how they look’ isn’t about making our communities safer. It is a deliberate show of intimidation that spreads fear, destabilizes our communities, and hurts our businesses. We cannot normalize President Trump’s militarization of American cities and the targeting of families for political theater — Chicago deserves safety and dignity, not scenes of federal agents hauling children away downtown.”
