Latta Takes 2,635th Consecutive Vote, Longest Current Voting Record in House

Washington, January 21, 2026

Today, Congressman Bob Latta (OH-5) cast his 2,635th consecutive vote, marking the longest consecutive voting record of any sitting Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. As first reported by Roll Call, Congressman Latta has maintained a perfect voting record since 2020.

“Every vote is an opportunity to speak for the people of Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District, and it is my duty in Congress to make sure their voices are heard. Missing a vote means silencing their voice in Congress, and that is not something I take lightly. This streak isn’t about setting a record, it’s about accountability. I’m honored to hold the longest, consecutive voting record of any sitting Member of the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Congressman Latta.

Congressman Latta’s exemplary attendance record is the gold standard for every House Republican. Bob is a team player and shows up ready to work for the people of his district. That’s really what service is all about,” said Majority Whip Tom Emmer.

Over 3,000 Join Sherman Telephone Town Hall Reviewing Trump’s First Year in Office: ICE, Greenland, and What Comes Next

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA)

SHERMAN OAKS, CA – On January 21st, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) hosted his first live Telephone Town Hall of the year, with more than 3,000 residents dialing in to react to the Trump administration’s first year in office and the challenges moving forward.

“I’m grateful to the thousands of residents who joined our first town hall of the year,” Sherman said. “One year into this administration, we’ve seen chaos, overreach, and a disregard for both civil liberties and international norms. Staying connected with constituents is essential as we work to confront these challenges and prepare for what lies ahead.”

In his opening remarks, Sherman reviewed the Trump administration’s record over the past year, focusing on aggressive immigration enforcement policies that have torn families apart and spread fear throughout Los Angeles–area communities and beyond. He addressed widespread outrage following the fatal shooting of Minnesota mother Renee Good by an ICE officer earlier this month, calling the incident a tragic consequence of an administration that has abandoned oversight and restraint. Sherman said he will refuse to vote for any federal appropriations bill that funds ICE and noted that he has joined efforts to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whom he has described as the “worst cabinet secretary in U.S. history.”

Sherman also discussed what he described as reckless actions by the Trump administration on the world stage, including repeated threats and rhetoric regarding Greenland. As a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Sherman warned that such actions undermine U.S. alliances as well as global peace and security. Congressman Sherman highlighted his recent unveiling of the “Hands Off Greenland” Act to block any unilateral effort to seize or acquire the territory.

Throughout the event, Sherman answered questions and addressed concerns about immigration enforcement, rising costs, threats to civil rights, and the broader direction of the country under the Trump administration. He reiterated his commitment to holding the administration accountable and continuing to fight for the values and interests of California’s communities.

The Town Hall also featured California Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo, representing the Northwest San Fernando Valley in the 40th Assembly District, as a special guest. Assemblymember Schiavo discussed priorities in the State Legislature and the importance of coordination between state and federal leaders to protect families and uphold fundamental rights during a period of political uncertainty.

During the Town Hall, Sherman requested input from residents by asking a series of survey questions about their thoughts and concerns.

The results of the survey questions are as follows:

– Should the House of Representatives debate articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem?

  • Yes: 91%
  • No: 6%
  • Unsure: 4%

-Do you support or oppose President Trump’s proposal to annex Greenland, including by force?

  • Support: 7%
  • Oppose: 88%
  • Unsure: 6%

-Should your Member of Congress vote in favor of any new funding for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)?

  • Yes, fund ICE: 4%
  • No, vote against ICE funding: 93%
  • Unsure: 3%

-Who deserves more of the blame for America’s affordability crisis?

  • President Biden and Democrats: 4%
  • Trump and Congressional Republicans: 73%
  • Both equally: 17%
  • Unsure: 6%

Foster Statement on 2026 Homeland Security Funding Legislation

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Bill Foster (11th District of Illinois)

“Today, the House will be taking up the 2026 Homeland Security funding bill. After reviewing the text of the legislation, I will be voting NO.

“Last year, Republicans’ ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ increased ICE’s funding to exceed some countries’ military budgets. Since then, ICE operations have terrorized U.S. citizens and immigrants in our communities in Illinois, Minnesota, and across the country. ICE must be held accountable for its rampant abuses of power, not rewarded with more funding.

“Should this vote fail, I hope Republicans will return to the table to engage in good-faith negotiations about raising the level of honor and professionalism in immigration enforcement in the United States.”

Rep. Cline Announces Bid For Chairman of Republican Study Committee

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Ben Cline (VA-06)

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Ben Cline (VA-06) announced his candidacy for Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) in the 120th Congress. The announcement follows his tenure as RSC Vice-Chair for the 119th Congress, during which time the committee achieved record membership growth, helped advance historic legislation that was signed into law, and delivered significant victories for the American people. Ahead of his announcement, Rep. Cline has secured the support of a majority of current RSC members, including current Chairman August Pfluger. Chairman Pfluger is limited to a single term per RSC bylaws.

“Over the past year, Congressional Republicans and President Trump have made astounding progress reversing the damage from the failed leadership and reckless polices of the Biden Administration,” Rep. Cline said. “We have a clear, well-developed strategy to further rein in Washington’s spending, secure our nation’s future, and restore trust in responsible governance. As Vice-Chair of the RSC, I have worked closely with Chairman Pfluger to advance these priorities and deliver real results. I’m running for Chairman of the Republican Study Committee to build on this momentum and continue to deliver principled, conservative leadership that puts the American people first. Rep. Frankel Calls for Impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21)

Today, Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-22) announced her support for a House resolution to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for grave abuses of power, including ICE’s systemic violations of due process rights for undocumented individuals, lawful residents, and even American citizens.

“At Secretary Noem’s direction, ICE has unleashed a campaign of cruelty that tramples the Constitution, ignores the rule of law, and strips people of their basic rights,” said Rep. Frankel. “Families are being torn apart and businesses disrupted. What ICE is doing on the streets of America is an abomination. We can and must have an orderly immigration system—but we will not accept one that treats the law, due process, and human dignity as optional.

For a democracy to survive, no one—not even a Cabinet secretary—is above the law,” Rep. Frankel added. “Secretary Noem’s actions demand accountability.”

The impeachment resolution charges Secretary Noem with high crimes and misdemeanors, including:

  • Systematically violating due process rights in the treatment of undocumented individuals and lawful residents;
  • Breaking the law by obstructing Members of Congress from conducting oversight of ICE facilities;
  • Unilaterally imposing a seven-day advance notice requirement for congressional visits to DHS facilities without legal authority;
  • Withholding congressionally appropriated FEMA funding for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program;
  • Abusing her position to circumvent federal contracting rules and steer taxpayer dollars to businesses connected to her associates.

Reps. Jayapal and Balint Push Meta and Google to End ICE Ad Partnerships Using White Nationalist Propaganda

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (7th District of Washington)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representatives Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, and Becca Balint (VT-AL), Vice Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, have sent letters demanding answers from Meta and Google after reports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is using their platforms to run immigration enforcement recruitment for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) using “self-deportation” and other advertisements that rely on white nationalist imagery and rhetoric.

In letters sent yesterday, the lawmakers warn that these advertising campaigns are part of an effort to massively expand ICE recruitment, including to surge ICE officers to cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, Portland, and New Orleans. To meet these recruitment targets, ICE has lowered hiring standards and turned to paid digital ads across major platforms.

The letter to Meta cites reporting that DHS has spent millions of dollars on paid ads with their platforms, including ads clearly connected to white nationalist themes, using images and slogans historically used by neo-Nazi groups. In one recent example, “DHS posted a recruitment ad on Instagram proclaiming ‘we’ll have our home again’, which is a song popularized in neo-Nazi spaces and used in white nationalist calls for a race war.” The letter to Google also calls out a reported $3 million in ICE advertisements on Google and YouTube that promoted ‘self-deportation,’ a strategy being used by the Trump administration to intimidate immigrants into leaving the country. In total, ICE placed $5.8 million in ads with Meta and Google last year.

Reps. Balint and Jayapal underscored the real-world consequences of expanded and insufficiently vetted immigration enforcement, citing deaths, warrantless arrests, mass raids, and a record number of deaths in ICE custody. “The impact of an unqualified army of ICE agents being unleashed across the country has been severe,” the lawmakers said.

The lawmakers are demanding transparency about the scope of the companies’ agreements with DHS and are calling on Meta and Google to commit to ending their digital advertising partnerships with the agency. They also raised concerns that the advertisements may conflict with the companies’ own content and advertising standards, questioning how this material was permitted to run on their platforms in the first place.

RELEASE: HILL AND MOSKOWITZ INTRODUCE BILL TO COMBAT CAPTAGON AND OTHER NARCOTICS

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman French Hill (AR-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. French Hill (AR-02) and Rep. Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) yesterday introduced the Countering Captagon and Narcotics Post-Assad Act. This bipartisan bill updates Rep. Hill’s law, the CAPTAGON Act, to include information on Captagon production shifts and a strategy to disrupt Captagon, methamphetamine, and other amphetamine-type stimulant networks.

Rep. Hill said, “I have been focused on the threat posed by Captagon and other narcotics in the region for years. Following the fall of Assad, Captagon production has shifted, trafficking routes have adapted, and the harm is spreading across the region. It is imperative that we have clear, up-to-date information and a coordinated strategy to disrupt these networks, address the growing methamphetamine problem, and protect regional and global stability.”

Rep. Moskowitz said, “Captagon did not disappear with the Assad regime. It adapted and spread. As drug production and trafficking shift across the Middle East, Congress must update its strategy to meet the reality on the ground. I am proud to co-lead the Countering Captagon and Narcotics Act to track evolving narcotics networks, strengthen cooperation with our partners, and disrupt criminal organizations tied to Hezbollah and Iran-backed proxies.”

Quotes in support of the Countering Captagon and Narcotics Post-Assad Act

“The American Task Force on Lebanon is proud to support the Countering Captagon and Narcotics Act. It is crucial that the U.S. continue to support efforts to dismantle and disrupt Captagon trafficking in the Middle East. Soldiers from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) have lost their lives in this mission, and the LAF has proven an excellent and capable strategic U.S. partner in this critical effort. We commend Rep. French Hill for his leadership on this issue.”

Amb. (ret.) Ed Gabriel, President and CEO of the American Task Force on Lebanon

“While the Assad has fallen in Syria, the Captagon trade—a multi-billion dollar industry Assad’s regime built in its last five years in power—is far from over in the region. The departure of the regime has lifted the ‘anchor’ on industrial-scale production in Syria, inducing a spillover effect both within and outside Syria and amongst new, malign non-state actors in Sudan, Yemen, Iraq, and other countries. The potential shortage in Captagon has also encouraged criminal actors to engage in the production and trafficking of methamphetamine, a much more harmful and challenging drug for both public health and law enforcement in the region. While the new Syrian government and its regional partners have made serious strides in disrupting drug operations in the country, its stability remains undermined by regime remnants and new criminal actors that are using Captagon and methamphetamine operations as alternative revenue streams that can help fund malign activities that undermine U.S. interests in the region.

“This legislation enables the U.S. to play a proactive part in addressing these threats, updating an existing mechanism created by the CAPTAGON ACT (2021-2022) to help monitor and disrupt these evolving networks.”

– Caroline Rose, Director of the Captagon and Methamphetamines Projects, the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy

“Captagon and methamphetamine trafficking are critical security threats to U.S. allies and partners in the Middle East, and their trade continues fuel regional instability.  The Countering Captagon and Narcotics Post-Assad Act includes timely and necessary updates that will enhance U.S. interagency coordination and better focus attention on the evolving nature of these drug networks. FDD Action strongly supports this bipartisan effort to disrupt narcotics production, trafficking, and financing across Syria and the wider region.”

Further Background

Captagon is an illicit narcotic that is a stimulant. It has been used by young people and combatants. In post-Assad Syria, Captagon production has shifted to small-scale operations, particularly in the south, following the Assad regime’s crackdown. This suppression has pushed Captagon production and trafficking into neighboring countries. Crystal meth (i.e., methamphetamine) use is also growing in the region.

To combat Captagon and other narcotics in the region, Rep. Hill and Rep. Moskowitz want to update the CAPTAGON Act by introducing the Countering Captagon and Narcotics Act.

The bill specifically asks the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with State, Treasury, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), and others as needed, to submit a report to Congress on Captagon, methamphetamine, and other amphetamine-type stimulant production and trafficking.

Rep. Hill’s Previous Captagon-related Laws

H.R. 6265 – Countering Assad’s Proliferation Trafficking And Garnering Of Narcotics (CAPTAGON) Act: This law required the U.S. government to develop an interagency strategy to disrupt and dismantle narcotics production and trafficking and affiliated networks linked to the Assad regime in Syria.

  • This bill was passed in the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and was signed into law in December 2022.

H.R. 4681 – Illicit Captagon Trafficking Suppression Act: This law imposed sanctions on Captagon traffickers. In Syria, Captagon was linked to and funded by the Assad regime. This bill was signed into law on April 24, 2024.

BILIRAKIS BILL TO ANCHOR EASTERN MEDITARRANEAN IN US FOREIGN POLICY ADVANCES

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Gus Bilirakis (FL-12)

Bipartisan Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act passes House Foreign Affairs Committee

WASHINGTON:  The Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act, led by Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), and Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) and joined by Reps. Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), Dina Titus (NV-1) and Chris Pappas (NH-1), passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The bipartisan legislation aims to bolster the Eastern Mediterranean’s role as a strategic link between India, the Middle East, and Europe.

“Supporting a U.S.–India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is vital to enhancing energy security, economic integration, and regional cooperation,” said Rep. Bilirakis. “I am pleased this legislation has passed out of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, advancing a strategic initiative that will diversify energy routes, strengthen global supply chains, and promote efficient trade and investment. IMEC also provides a transparent and sustainable alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, reinforcing U.S. partnerships and regional stability.”

“The Eastern Mediterranean is emerging as a central hub for energy and infrastructure connecting Europe, the Middle East, and India,” said Rep. Schneider. “This bipartisan bill ensures U.S. diplomacy keeps pace with that transformation, strengthening our partnerships with Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and Egypt and supporting efforts like the U.S.-India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) that deepen regional integration. Thank you to Foreign Affairs Chair Mast and Ranking Member Meeks for allowing consideration of this legislation and to my colleagues on the Foreign Affairs Committee for their broad support. I’m hopeful the full House will soon have an opportunity to advance this bill that will shore up global energy supply chains and bolster defense cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

“I am pleased to see our bipartisan Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act advance out of the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” said Rep. Malliotakis. “This legislation reinforces America’s partnerships with Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and Egypt, strengthening cooperation on energy security, economic connectivity, and long-term strategic coordination in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

The bill reinforces U.S. support for the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and regional initiatives including the 3+1 dialogue with Greece, Israel, and Cyprus and the East Mediterranean Gas Forum. It calls for:

  • Elevating the Eastern Mediterranean in U.S. foreign policy;
  • Institutionalizing strategic dialogues with IMEC and regional partners;
  • Supporting cross-border infrastructure projects and energy interconnectors;
  • Studying the expansion of U.S.–Israel innovation programs to the broader region;
  • Evaluating multilateral models like Cyprus’s CYCLOPS center for regional coordination.

The legislation builds on bipartisan support for deeper regional integration, grounded in shared interests in energy security, economic connectivity, and long-term strategic coordination.

Quigley Demands Changes to ICE and CBP Conduct or Face Funding Cuts

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05)

Today, Chicago Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) introduced an amendment to the FY26 Homeland Security Appropriations bill that would cut funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), unless major changes are made to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) conduct.

“Since ICE and CBP began their reign of terror in Chicago last fall, I have stood alongside thousands of Chicagoans in demanding accountability from DHS. ICE and CBP have arrested U.S. citizens, invaded courthouses and hospitals, pepper-sprayed Chicagoans against court orders, traumatized children, and shot innocent bystanders. They must be stopped,” b. “One way to do this is to cut off their funding. No more money for these illegal operations. I will not vote to fund the illegal activities of ICE and CBP while they violate the rights of tens of thousands in Chicago, Minneapolis, and across the country.”

Quigley’s demands include:

  • Eliminating illegal, warrantless arrests;
  • Prohibiting raids near sensitive locations (like schools, hospitals, and courthouses);
  • Banning the use of chemical irritants like pepper spray on bystanders;
  • And requiring ICE and CBP to wear body cameras and banning masks;

Earlier today, Quigley spoke before the House Rules Committee, urging Republicans to join his calls for change. Video of his remarks is available HERE.

During Trump’s “Operation Midway Blitz,” Quigley also demanded an investigation from the DHS Inspector General and introduced the PROTECT Immigration Act to stop DHS from co-opting local police for immigration raids. He continues to support Chicago Congresswoman Robin Kelly’s articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
