WASHINGTON — During the August District Work Period, Speaker Johnson and House Republicans delivered the good news of the One Big Beautiful Bill in Congressional Districts across America.

In Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District, Speaker Johnson participated in a panel discussion with Louisiana farmers to discuss how the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers for American agriculture and explained how the One Big Beautiful Bill will help Louisiana families keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets.

“Policy that is good for the family is good for the whole country. Family is the seedbed of society, and when you foster strong families, and you can make better economic opportunity for them and give them better educational choices,” Speaker Johnson said at an event in Louisiana. “These things are going to foster stronger communities. Our policies in the Republican Party are geared toward hardworking families, and the One Big Beautiful Bill is a good testament to that. It’s geared for hardworking lower and middle-income families, who will be the greatest beneficiaries of these collective policies.”

LEADER JEFFRIES: “HOUSE DEMOCRATS HAVE A SIMPLE MESSAGE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE: YOU DESERVE BETTER”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (8th District of New York)

Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a press conference where he emphasized that Democrats will continue to fight to lower the high cost of living, fix our broken healthcare system and clean up corruption.

LEADER JEFFRIES: House Democrats had a very active August District Work Period. We held more than a thousand different events all across the country, interacting with everyday Americans who we are privileged to represent. We talked about the economy, we talked about healthcare and we talked about cleaning up corruption here in Washington, D.C. In this great country, America has become far too expensive. The cost of living is way too high. Donald Trump and House Republicans repeatedly promised to lower the high cost of living on day one. They have failed. Costs aren’t going down. They’re going up. Inflation is going up. Electricity bills are skyrocketing. Everyday Americans are being hit with increased healthcare premiums, copays, deductibles and prescription drug prices. Housing costs have not gone down. They continue to go up. America is too expensive.

The One Big Ugly Bill remains deeply unpopular. In town hall meeting after town hall meeting after town hall meeting, House Republicans were unable to defend their signature so-called legislative accomplishment because it turns out that ripping healthcare away from millions of Americans, ending Medicaid as we know it, closing hospitals, shutting down nursing homes, forcing community-based health clinics to shutter their doors and failing to strengthen the Affordable Care Act are all deeply unpopular with Democrats, Independents and Republicans.

House Democrats have a simple message for the American people: You Deserve Better. We’re going to fight hard to lower the high cost of living. We’re going to fight hard to fix our broken healthcare system. And we’re going to fight hard to clean up corruption so we can deliver a country of the people, by the people and for the people, as opposed to the type of country that we’re seeing under Republican complete control of government, which is a country of the billionaires, by the billionaires and for the billionaires. That’s what the Republican One Big Ugly Bill was all about. They passed legislation that hurts everyday Americans in order to reward their billionaire donors with massive tax breaks. Our message for the American people is clear: You Deserve Better.

Full press conference can be watched here.

Himes Statement on Attempted Firing of Federal Reserve Governor Washington, DC– Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) today released the following statement: “The President knows that he has no authority to fire a sitting Federal Reserve governor…”

Himes Statement on Attempted Firing of Federal Reserve Governor | Press Releases | Congressman Jim Himes

“The President knows that he has no authority to fire a sitting Federal Reserve governor, but he also knows that there will be no repercussions so long as Congress is willing to happily fall in line. My Republican colleagues must stand up to support Lisa Cook and defend the independence of the Federal Reserve. To do otherwise undermines confidence in American markets and sends a clear signal that Donald Trump can ignore legal protections to remove anyone who doesn’t blindly adhere to his agenda— an outcome that will inevitably prove detrimental to the economy and further erode our democratic institutions.”

Trump Administration Claws Back Investments in Jobs, Local Economies, and Energy Dominance

August 29, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) released the following statement on the Trump administration’s latest attack on clean energy:

“This is a new level of idiocracy, where the Trump administration is trying to destroy an entire sector of clean energy, kill thousands of good paying jobs, and drive up electricity prices for American consumers.

“Surrendering the future to China by dragging America back to dirty, climate-wrecking fossil fuel dependency while most of the world is moving on to safer, cleaner, and cheaper clean energy, is reckless, corrupt, and profoundly against our national interests.

“The Humboldt project in my district shows what’s possible when we put people over polluters. For a small, rural community, it means jobs, affordable and clean power for millions, and Tribes getting a seat at the table and share of the benefits. But Trump has decided that keeping Big Oil happy matters more than lowering costs, creating jobs, or securing America’s energy future.

“Democrats are fighting for jobs, affordable power, and a clean energy future. Trump is fighting for corrupt oil executives who bankrolled his campaign, and that damage is going to be felt for generations.”

LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT OF REP. JERRY NADLER

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (8th District of New York)

Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement after Congressman Jerry Nadler announced he would not seek another term in the House of Representatives:

For nearly five decades in public service, Congressman Jerry Nadler has been a relentless fighter for justice, civil rights and liberties and the fundamental promise of equality for all.

Born to a Jewish chicken farmer in Brooklyn and guided by his background and deeply ingrained values, Congressman Nadler has never forgotten his roots. He has dedicated his life to eradicating discrimination wherever and whenever it exists. As the legendary Chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee, he helped lead two historic impeachments and ensure that no one, not even the President, is above the law. In that role, he championed legislation to protect our democracy and the American way of life, fighting for women, people of color and the LGBTQ+ community, including enshrining into law the Respect for Marriage Act.

A proud son of New York City, Rep. Nadler has been a tremendous champion for the New Yorkers he is privileged to represent. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, he spent years fighting for the care and support that New York City and his constituents needed to begin to rebuild and heal. As Dean of the New York delegation, Congressman Nadler has been a dear friend and valued mentor to myself and so many others throughout the People’s House.

Jerry’s years of leadership have earned him a spot among our nation’s greatest public servants. He will be deeply missed by the House Democratic Caucus next term and we wish him and his family the very best in this new chapter.

Rep. Lois Frankel Responds to Trump’s Plan to Cancel $4.9 Billion in Funding for Foreign Aid Programs

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21)

Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL-22), Ranking Member of the House National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Subcommittee released the following statement today after President Trump announced that he plans to cancel $4.9 billion in funding for foreign aid programs.

“Trump’s new clawback of federal funds is unlawful and reckless. The rescission package is a brazen seizure of Congress’s constitutional power of the purse,” said Rep. Frankel. “With this action, the Trump Administration continues draining life and opportunities from children across the world, while leaving our own children here at home more vulnerable to disease, conflict, and economic collapse.”
