Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) issued the following statement on Operation Epic Fury:

“Ayatollah Khomeini and the Iranian regime is the head of the snake that is responsible for killing thousands of Americans and our allies in the Middle East. For decades, both Republican and Democratic Presidents alike, as well as our allies around the world, have told the Iranian regime that it must stop its pursuit of nuclear weapons, end the widespread support of its proxy terrorism network, and cease its tyrannical denial of fundamental liberties for the Iranian people. Despite the best diplomatic efforts by the Trump administration and our allies, the Iranian regime has failed to divert from its violent path. 

President Trump’s decision to launch Operation Epic Fury will protect America and our allies by eliminating the Iranian regime’s ability to wage terror and threaten its enemies. It will also provide the Iranian people with a historic opportunity to shape their own future free from oppression. 

As Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Committee, I was notified after Operation Epic Fury began and I look forward to continued briefings from our military and civilian national security leaders. We will stand together with Israel and our allies in the region as they face retaliation by Iran, and help them shape a more peaceful future for the Middle East. I pray for the safety of our brave and incredibly capable servicemembers carrying out this mission.”

Community Project Funding provides a direct pathway for eligible entities to secure federal resources for projects that strengthen neighborhoods, improve infrastructure, expand opportunity, and enhance quality of life throughout the district. 

The list of Fiscal Year 2027 Community Project Funding eligible accounts can be accessed by clicking here, and specific eligibility information can be reviewed here. Applicants are encouraged to thoroughly review the eligibility information for any subcommittee account for which they are submitting a project. All submissions must be received by Friday, March 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. CT., via the web portal indicated below. Programmatic and language requests for the FY2027 Appropriations bills are also being accepted. Eligible entities, including state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, and other qualifying public institutions, may submit requests for consideration through the portal by clicking here. 

Congressman Green has secured more than $325 million in local projects across Houston, including advancing public safety initiatives, infrastructure improvements, economic development efforts, and community services.

Congressman Al Green stated, “Community Project Funding allows us to direct federal resources where they are needed most, including neighborhoods, schools, infrastructure, and initiatives that uplift our communities. Congressman Al Green stated: “The President has taken our country to war without Congress having weighed in. I’m calling on Speaker Johnson to reconvene the Congress to allow the War Powers Resolution, of which I am a cosponsor, to be voted on.”

“This morning, just prior to 7:00 a.m. EST, I had a conversation with the former chairperson, now the ranking member, of the Homeland Security Committee to discuss issues related to the war. I will be in constant contact with him and other members of leadership as we proceed. At this time, I have more questions than answers. Among my many questions are: 

• By what authority has the President committed the country to war without Congress having declared war?

• What is the strategy?

• Why were negotiations abruptly curtailed?

• Will the strategy require boots on the ground?

• Who will govern Iran if the current government is taken out?

 

The Department of State has issued guidance advising U.S. citizens in the region to remain alert as events continue to unfold. Any constituents or family who are in the affected regions can call our office at 713-383-9234 for assistance. 

Regrettably, although I will be there in spirit, I will not be in attendance at the Rodeo Parade taking place today. While I will be engaged in community activities, as a member of the Committee on Homeland Security, I will need to be available for conversations that may occur that would necessitate my being able to step aside from activities that I am engaged in. I do support the Rodeo and am grateful to all who have worked hard to make it the great success that it is.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration employing U.S. military force against Iran.
 
“Overnight, the President ordered preemptive military strikes against Iran. Let me be clear that I oppose these preemptive strikes and am concerned the situation is prone to rapid escalation that puts Americans at risk and threatens to drag us into a war of choice with no strategic endgame.

“This offensive use of military force against Iran, absent congressional authorization, is contrary to domestic and international law. Our system of checks and balances is crucial to ensuring that we adhere to the law and, hopefully, learn from the mistakes of our past.
 
“There is no question that the Iranian regime is guilty of horrific crimes against its own people and conducts destabilization activities in the region. That is why the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was so important for limiting Iran’s nuclear ambitions and allowed access into the country to monitor their nuclear activities. The Trump Administration’s abandonment of that agreement, which was overwhelmingly beneficial to U.S. and regional interests, has left us without a key point of leverage at a critical time.
 
“We absolutely should exert pressure on Iran in order to ensure that they don’t build a nuclear weapon. However, the far more appropriate options for exerting that pressure are continued diplomatic engagement, coalition building with partners and allies in the region, and enforcement of targeted economic sanctions. These options are also far more likely to succeed without risking war with a country with advanced weapons systems and a demonstrated willingness to use those systems against thousands of American service members in the region and beyond.
 
“Make no mistake, the president’s actions have dragged the United States into a war of his choosing. Regardless of my opposition to the course of action the president has unilaterally taken, my thoughts are with the brave men and women in uniform, and their families.”

Today, U.S. Representative Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24) issued the statement below following the Trump administration’s strikes in Iran.

“President Trump promised to put Americans first and end foreign wars, but his actions in Iran clearly break those promises. The American people want solutions to the issues close to home, such as addressing the cost-of-living crisis. They do not want to be dragged into another reckless and endless war in the Middle East that will result in countless casualties.

“Congress was not given any information that would indicate there was an imminent threat coming from Iran. Without such credible evidence, there’s no justification in sending our servicemembers into this conflict. Last night’s strikes are another instance of President Trump bypassing Congress to unilaterally launch an unprovoked military operation with no defined plan. I call on Speaker Johnson and Republican leadership to get off the sidelines and reassert Congress’s constitutional duty to serve as a check on the President.”

Washington, D.C.— U.S Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) released the following statement in response to Trump’s declaration of War on Iran.   

“Trump has declared war on Iran without exhausting nonviolent alternatives, without a long-term plan, and without any legal authorization,” said Rep. Doggett. “Wasting billions in a destabilizing bloody conflict, even though directed at a despicable regime, he imperils the lives of Americans and innocent civilians throughout the region.  Choosing war is not “peace through strength;” it only distracts from his many failures here at home. With war so much easier to get into than to get out of, every member of Congress can vote this week to restrain Trump by adopting a bipartisan war powers resolution.

The fall of Saddam Hussein’s statue in Baghdad was the beginning, not the end of chaos in Iraq that led to 4,000 American deaths and cost $2 trillion.  Iran is almost 4 times larger than Iraq with a much stronger military. Iran also has much greater capability for deadly retaliation. Ignoring the lessons from Bush’s war, this unprovoked US/Israeli attack endangers us all.  Trump again sends a message to other authoritarians Putin and Xi that war is a tool for the powerful to use whenever they choose”

I am closely monitoring the events across the Middle East and praying for our troops, allies, and civilians across the region. 

Iran’s government is a brutal dictatorship that has violated human rights and is the most significant state sponsor of terrorism across the globe. The regime poses a grave threat to our allies in the region. However, the laws of this nation do not give the President the authority – without Congressional authorization – to send American servicemembers into another war that endangers countless lives.

The Trump Administration must explain itself to the American people and Congress immediately. If this Administration has conclusive intelligence truly demonstrating that Iran is within days of being able to produce a nuclear weapon, then they must prove that. They owe the nation an ironclad justification for this act of war and a clear strategy to protect American lives and prevent a costly war, especially as Americans are struggling to get by in their everyday lives.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on President Trump’s military action against Iran:

“President Trump was elected on a promise to end forever conflicts and regime change wars. He has done the opposite. Early this morning, he announced a major military operation against Iran without authorization from Congress. By the President’s own admission, this operation will endanger U.S. personnel and this action risks drawing the U.S. and our allies into a wider conflict. 

“The Iranian regime brutalizes their own people and funds many terrorist groups throughout the Middle East. However, we know from the failures of the 2003 War in Iraq what can happen when we lack a clearly defined endgame that prevents the U.S. from being drawn into another quagmire. We previously reached a diplomatic solution that would have avoided war and prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon when President Obama successfully negotiated the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015. This agreement was broadly supported by the international community and Iran was complying until President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the JCPOA in 2018. We would not be in this mess now if the President had not withdrawn from that agreement.”

“There were renewed talks with Iran that showed a diplomatic path remained open which President Trump abandoned in favor of military hostilities that put American lives in danger. The Constitution is clear. The decision to go to war requires Congressional authorization.”
