Krishnamoorthi Urges Year-Round E15 Sales to Lower Gas Prices as Trump’s Iran War

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (8th District of Illinois)

CHICAGO — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) today held a press event at a Chicago gas station alongside Jon Hurst, Director of Public Policy for the Illinois Corn Growers Association, to highlight how rising oil prices driven by President Trump’s war with Iran are increasing costs for Illinois families and to call for year-round nationwide E15 sales to help lower prices at the pump.

“President Trump’s illegal, unconstitutional war in Iran is pushing oil prices higher and making the affordability crisis he created even worse,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. “In addition to this conflict’s growing human and financial costs, it is also making life more expensive for families here at home. While ending the war must be our foremost priority, we should also be using every tool available to bring costs down. Allowing year-round E15 sales would give drivers a cheaper option at the pump while supporting Midwest farmers and strengthening American energy production — helping Illinois families weather the current price shocks and reducing long-term costs.”

E15 is a gasoline blend made with 15 percent ethanol—much of it produced from corn grown by Midwest farmers—and it often sells for 10 to 30 cents less per gallon than standard gasoline. Expanding year-round access to E15 would help keep a lower-cost fuel option available to drivers while supporting American agriculture and domestic energy production. However, federal fuel rules currently restrict nationwide E15 sales during the summer months unless temporary waivers are issued. Krishnamoorthi is urging the Trump administration to direct the Environmental Protection Agency to allow E15 sales this summer while Congress works toward a permanent nationwide solution allowing year-round E15 sales.

MENG STATEMENT FOLLOWING ANTISEMITIC ATTACK AT TEMPLE ISRAEL

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Grace Meng (6th District of New York)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) released the following statement following yesterday’s antisemitic terrorist attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan:

“As millions of Jewish people around the United States and the world gather for Shabbat, I join them in prayer for peace and safety.

Yesterday’s attempted attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, was more than an antisemitic act of terror. It was an attack on Jewish life in America and all people of faith.

Reports indicate the suspect was armed with a rifle and his car contained mortars and potentially other explosives. Had it not been for the bravery of one security guard, hundreds of children could have been killed.

My office has been in touch with NYPD to make sure all proper security measures are in place for our city. As the top Democrat on the House appropriations subcommittee that funds federal law enforcement, public safety is my top priority, and I will work with anyone to advance it. I have requested a briefing with the FBI to ensure our law enforcement agencies are responding appropriately in this heightened threat environment.

At this critical moment, members of both parties must come together to increase funding for the lifesaving Nonprofit Security Grant Program, pass my bipartisan Pray Safe Act of 2025 to cut red tape and make it easier for communities to access security resources they need, and take down the temperature in our country. Hate cannot be a partisan issue. Members of both parties have a duty to call out antisemitism whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head.

My office stands ready to support any who require assistance.”

THOMPSON, SCHIFF, VALADAO LEAD CALL FOR USDA ASSISTANCE FOR PEACH FARMERS

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Mike Thompson Representing the 5th District of CALIFORNIA

Yuba-Sutter Region, California – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA-04), Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Rep. David Valadao (R-CA-22) led a bipartisan group of 38 colleagues to request Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins issue assistance to peach farmers in Yuba and Sutter Counties. Following the closure of Del Monte processing facility in Modesto, countless peach growers in the region are facing widespread contract cancellations and lack a viable path to mitigate their losses.

“The Del Monte facility processed a substantial share of the state’s canned fruit production, including more than 30 percent of California peaches. With no comparable alternative processing capacity available, producers are facing severe uncertainty and financial hardship,” wrote the lawmakers. “Our domestic producers already face a multitude of challenges, and it is critical that we use available federal resources to preserve these farmers’ ability to produce healthy, fresh food for Americans. We respectfully request that USDA utilize its authorities to stabilize affected producers and communities.”

The lawmakers requested the following actions:

  • USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service provide $9 million to help growers transition to another permanent crop.
  • USDA’s existing disaster and market disruption programs (e.g., Farm Service Agency’s Tree Assistance Program) be made maximally accessible to impacted growers.
  • Technical assistance and economic development support be provided to affected communities.

In addition to Thompson, Schiff, and Valadao, the letter was also signed by Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.-11), and Representatives Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.-33), Nanette Barragán (D-Calif.-44), Julia Brownley (D-Calif.-26), Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.-24), Judy Chu (D-Calif.-28), Gil Cisneros (D-Calif.-31), Lou Correa (D-Calif.-46), Jim Costa (D-Calif.-21), Mark DeSaulnier (D-Calif.-10), Vince Fong (R-Calif.-20), Laura Friedman (D-Calif.-30), John Garamendi (D-Calif.-08), Robert Garcia (D-Calif.-42), Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.-34), Adam Gray (D-Calif.-13), Josh Harder (D-Calif.-09), Jared Huffman (D-Calif.-02), Sara Jacobs (D-Calif.-51), Ro Khanna (D-Calif.-17), Young Kim (R-Calif.-40), Mike Levin (D-Calif.-49), Sam Liccardo (D-Calif.-16), Ted Lieu (D-Calif.-36), Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.-18), Doris Matsui (D-Calif.-07), Dave Min (D-Calif.-47), Kevin Mullin (D-Calif.-15), Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.-23), Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.-19), Scott Peters (D-Calif.-50), Luz Rivas (D-Calif.-29), Lateefah Simon (D-Calif.-12), Brad Sherman (D-Calif.-32), Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.-14), Mark Takano (D-Calif.-39), Derek Tran (D-Calif.-45), and George Whitesides (D-Calif.-27).

The Honorable Brooke Rollins

Secretary

U.S. Department of Agriculture

1400 Independence Ave., S.W.

Washington, D.C. 20250

Dear Secretary Rollins,

We write to request the immediate assistance of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in relation to the Del Monte processing facility closure in Modesto, California. As a result of this closure, countless peach growers are facing widespread contract cancellations and lack a viable avenue to mitigate their losses.

The Del Monte facility processed a substantial share of the state’s canned fruit production, including more than 30 percent of California peaches. With no comparable alternative processing capacity available, producers are facing severe uncertainty and financial hardship. These growers have long supplied the nation with nutritious and delicious fruit, and without USDA action, these growers will have nowhere to turn to maintain their livelihoods. Our domestic producers already face a multitude of challenges, and it is critical that we use available federal resources to preserve these farmers’ ability to produce healthy, fresh food for Americans.

  • We respectfully request that USDA utilize its authorities to stabilize affected producers and communities. More specifically, we request that USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service provide $9 million to help growers transition to another permanent crop, that the Department’s existing disaster and market disruption programs (e.g., Farm Service Agency’s Tree Assistance Program) be made maximally accessible to impacted growers, and that technical assistance and economic development support be provided to affected communities.

Many impacted growers are multi-generational family farmers who have invested decades in orchards built around stable processor relationships. These operations anchor local employment and regional economies. Without a proper response, there is a risk of long-term structured damage to our nation’s agricultural base.

We look forward to working closely with USDA to swiftly identify and implement practical solutions. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

MATSUI AND SACRAMENTO STATE ANNOUNCE $2 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR CAPITAL CAMPUS PROJECT

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA)

SACRAMENTO, CA – An infusion of $2 million in federal funding is heading to Sacramento State thanks to Community Project Funding secured by Congresswoman Doris Matsui. She announced the funding this morning at a press conference alongside Sacramento State President Luke Wood, Dean David Lang, Downtown Sacramento Partnership Executive Director Michael Ault, and other community leaders on Capitol Mall.

The federal funding will help advance the university’s transformative downtown economic development project, which aims to integrate student housing, academic space, workforce development, and hospitality just steps from the State Capitol.

“The Capital Campus project is a powerful example of what can happen when community leaders work together and fight for a better future,” saidCongresswoman Matsui. “This funding is not just about advancing a development project. It is about opening doors for students, strengthening our workforce, revitalizing downtown, and making sure Sacramento gets its fair share of federal resources. That is the kind of leadership Sacramento deserves, and I will keep fighting every day to deliver for this community’s future.”

“Congresswoman Doris Matsui’s leadership in securing $2 million in federal funding is a powerful investment in the future of Sacramento State’s downtown capital campus and revitalizing the urban core,” said President Wood. “These funds will help us accelerate our ambitious, university-led economic development project, which will transform underutilized state land into a vibrant center for education, innovation, housing, and economic opportunity. This support helps our future students, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders come together to shape California’s future.”

“For our students, the Capital Campus represents real access to opportunity. Bringing academic programs, workforce partnerships, and experiential learning into the heart of downtown allows us to connect classroom learning directly to public service, industry, and policy,” said Dean Lang. “This federal investment helps accelerate that integration: ensuring that our students are not only educated, but professionally prepared to lead in this region. We’re grateful for Congresswoman Matsui’s partnership. Now our job is to put this investment to work and deliver measurable results for our students and our city.”

“The leadership of Congressmember Matsui in securing federal funding to support the continued elevation of uses along our Capitol Mall corridor, including the Downtown Sacramento State Center and the Riverfront Stitch Park, is exactly the type of shared vision and catalytic investment we need to champion these projects forward,” said Michael Ault, Executive Director, Downtown Sacramento Partnership. “We are grateful for her continuing to secure resources to further the evolution of downtown Sacramento and the capital region’s economy for the next generation.”

The Sacramento State Capital Campus is a first-of-its-kind initiative intended to reinvigorate downtown Sacramento and serve as a national model for university-led urban development. The federal funding, secured by Congresswoman Matsui, will support the continued advancement of the project and is expected to help move planning and site preparation forward as the vision continues from concept to reality.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman John Garamendi – Representing California’s 3rd Congressional District

March 13, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — During AmeriCorps week, Congressman John Garamendi (CA-08), U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) and Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) reintroduced the America’s Call to Improve Opportunities Now (ACTION) for National Service Act. This bicameral legislation would enhance access to national and community service opportunities, lower student debt, create a more engaged citizenry, and address national priorities in education, infrastructure, health care, disaster relief, and poverty.

America’s Call to Improve Opportunities Now (ACTION) for National Service Act would achieve the following goals:

  • Significantly reduces the burden of student loan debt by ensuring that individuals who serve two full terms of service are rewarded with an education benefit equivalent to four years of the average in-state tuition at a public, four-year college.

  • Renames the existing Corporation for National and Community Service as the AmeriCorps Administration and elevates it to a Cabinet-level federal agency, including the appointment of a Director of AmeriCorps with the same rank as Cabinet Secretaries. The Director would be required to establish an interagency working group to evaluate both education award eligibility for participants in programs outside of AmeriCorps and the feasibility of granting Federal hiring preference to volunteers.

The reintroduction of the ACTION for National Service Act comes as service organizations across the nation celebrate AmeriCorps Week, highlighting the power of public service to unite communities, transform lives, and address challenges facing the nation.

Cosponsors in the U.S. Senate include Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Andy Kim (D-NJ), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Chris Coons (D-DE).

Reps. Neguse & Hurd, Sens. Bennet & Hickenlooper Lead 80 Lawmakers in Submitting Bipartisan Public Comment in Defense of NCAR

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Joe Neguse (D-Co 2)

“We oppose the restructuring and weakening of NCAR, which would erode critical research capacity, disrupt long-standing partnerships, and diminish our ability to understand, anticipate, and respond to extreme weather-related risks.”

Washington, D.C. — Colorado Representatives Joe Neguse and Jeff Hurd and Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper led 80 of their colleagues in submitting a public comment opposing proposed structural changes to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder. The comment was submitted to the National Science Foundation (NSF) as part of its request for public comment on the Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle the cutting-edge research institution.

The bipartisan coalition of lawmakers underscored concerns about how fragmenting NCAR’s capabilities, including divesting its research aircraft or supercomputing center, would affect national weather forecasting capabilities, national security functions, and the long-term return on federal investment.

They wrote to the NSF in their capacity as stewards of taxpayer resources, noting that Congress has consistently appropriated funds for NCAR as an integrated national capability serving multiple federal agencies and public partners.

“The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) delivers substantial value to the nation as an integrated hub of Earth system science that protects Americans and supports our economy,” wrote the lawmakers.

“NCAR serves as a backbone of the nation’s weather and Earth system science enterprise, translating research into practical, operational tools. Since its founding in 1960, NCAR has evolved to deepen our understanding of interconnected Earth systems and integrate previously siloed research areas. It integrates weather observations, advanced modeling, and high-performance computing into a cohesive system that delivers tangible benefits to communities and national security. […] NCAR is also a national leader in seasonal forecasting, supporting preparedness for future weather conditions across the military, private sector, emergency management, and agriculture.”

The letter concluded, “…we oppose the restructuring and weakening of NCAR, which would erode critical research capacity, disrupt long-standing partnerships, and diminish our ability to understand, anticipate, and respond to extreme weather-related risks.”

Rep. Neguse has forcefully condemned the White House’s plans to dismantle NCAR since reports first surfaced. In December 2025, he quickly mobilized a bipartisan, bicameral coalition in support of protecting and sustaining support for the research institution.

The Congressman also called on Coloradans to make their voices heard during the public comment period. The Union of Concerned Scientists, former directors of NCAR and UCAR, and the American Meteorological Society have already answered the NSF’s call for feedback — defending NCAR’s work and warning that its research helps keep Americans safe and save lives.

Acting Administrator Brian Stone

National Science Foundation

2415 Eisenhower Avenue

Alexandria, Virginia 22314-4684

Dear Acting Administrator Stone:

We write in response to the National Science Foundation’s Dear Colleague Letter titled “NSF Intent to Restructure Critical Weather Infrastructure.” The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) delivers substantial value to the nation as an integrated hub of Earth system science that protects Americans and supports our economy. We have serious concerns about how structural changes to the organization will affect national weather forecasting capabilities, national security functions, and the long-term return on federal investment.

Congress has consistently appropriated funds for NCAR as an integrated national capability serving multiple federal agencies and public partners. As stewards of taxpayer resources, we have a responsibility to ensure that significant structural changes preserve core capabilities, avoid duplication, and protect the value of long-standing federal investments.

NCAR serves as a backbone of the nation’s weather and Earth system science enterprise, translating research into practical, operational tools. Since its founding in 1960, NCAR has evolved to deepen our understanding of interconnected Earth systems and integrate previously siloed research areas. It integrates weather observations, advanced modeling, and high-performance computing into a cohesive system that delivers tangible benefits to communities and national security. NCAR-developed models underpin forecasting advancements used by NOAA, the Department of Defense, FAA-supported aviation systems, and private weather companies, reducing duplication and inefficiency across agencies and sectors.

NCAR is also a national leader in seasonal forecasting, supporting preparedness for future weather conditions across the military, private sector, emergency management, and agriculture. Its aircraft icing and turbulence forecasting tools, long distributed by NOAA’s Aviation Weather Center, are foundational to aviation safety. NCAR’s contributions in this space are widely relied upon and deeply embedded in operational systems.

The NCAR–Wyoming Supercomputing Center is a cornerstone of the nation’s ability to integrate, analyze, and model complex Earth system datasets. These computing capabilities are purpose-built for atmospheric and Earth system sciences, which differ substantially from more generic high-performance computing environments. The close integration between computing infrastructure and Earth system research is essential to maintaining operational forecasting capabilities and cost efficiency.

NCAR tools support our national defense by enabling mission-critical, global intelligence on weather conditions, directly supporting sensitive military operations. NCAR scientists are also advancing machine-learning techniques to detect atmospheric toxic releases that could endanger troops. In addition, NCAR’s leadership in space weather and Earth–Sun system research is equally vital to defense readiness, supporting the prediction of solar storms that can disrupt satellites essential for GPS, communications, and intelligence systems. These capabilities help safeguard military operations, command-and-control networks, and the critical infrastructure that underpins national security, as well as commerce.

Fragmenting NCAR’s capabilities, including divesting its research aircraft or supercomputing center, would increase contracting, coordination, and oversight costs while weakening operational integration that currently reduces duplication across agencies. By maintaining common infrastructure and open modeling frameworks, NCAR minimizes duplication, strengthens partnerships, and maximizes the return on federal research investments across states and sectors.

In sum, we oppose the restructuring and weakening of NCAR, which would erode critical research capacity, disrupt long-standing partnerships, and diminish our ability to understand, anticipate, and respond to extreme weather-related risks.

Sincerely,

###

Aderholt Announces $1 Million ARC Grant for Lauderdale County Workforce Training Center Equipment

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04)

WASHINGTON — Congressman Robert Aderholt (AL-04) today highlighted a $1 million grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to support workforce training in Lauderdale County.

The grant, awarded to the Lauderdale County Commission, will help purchase and install specialized workforce training equipment at the soon-to-be-completed Lauderdale County Workforce Training Center. Once operational, the center will provide training and certification programs in areas such as welding, mechatronics, aircraft maintenance, power generation system maintenance, and machine tool technology.

Approximately 150 students are expected to benefit from workforce training opportunities supported through the project.

“North Alabama continues to experience strong economic growth, particularly in industries like aerospace, automotive, and advanced manufacturing,” said Congressman Aderholt. “This investment will help ensure our local workforce has the skills needed to fill these good-paying jobs and support continued economic development across our region.”

The ARC grant will be matched by $1 million in local funding, bringing the total project investment to $2 million.

Congressman Aderholt emphasized the importance of the Appalachian Regional Commission, which is funded by Congress to support economic development in Appalachian communities.

“ARC is an important partnership between the federal government, states, and local communities, and it is funded by Congress to help strengthen economic opportunity across Appalachia,” Aderholt said. “I strongly support these types of investments because they help build a skilled workforce, attract employers, and create long-term prosperity for our communities.”

Lauderdale County has experienced significant growth in recent years, creating strong demand for skilled workers in local industries. The new workforce training center will help address that need by preparing local students and workers for high-wage careers in the region.

The Appalachian Regional Commission is an economic development partnership of the federal government and 13 state governments focused on strengthening economic growth and opportunity across the Appalachian region.

Congressman Brad Sherman Demands the Immediate Halt to American Petroleum Exports

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32) today urged President Donald Trump to immediately halt exports of U.S.-produced petroleum during the ongoing hostilities involving Iran in order to protect American consumers from rising energy prices and economic disruption.

“Higher oil prices may benefit the largest oil companies, but they function as an unavoidable tax on American families,” said Congressman Sherman. “When energy prices spike, the cost of gasoline, transportation, food, and manufacturing all rise. At a time of international conflict and economic uncertainty, our priority should be protecting American consumers—not maximizing export profits for multinational oil producers.”

In a letter sent to the President today, Congressman Sherman warned that escalating tensions with Iran have pushed oil prices higher and created volatility in global energy markets, placing growing pressure on American households, workers, and businesses.

Sherman called on the President to use existing statutory authority to temporarily pause petroleum exports and prioritize domestic supply.

Sherman noted that under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016, the President has authority to restrict crude oil exports during a national emergency or when exports would cause sustained material adverse employment effects in the United States.

Sherman pressed President Trump to immediately exercise this authority and pause U.S. petroleum exports until hostilities with Iran cease and global energy markets stabilize.

Sherman emphasized that such action would help shield American consumers from unnecessary price increases, reduce inflationary pressure, and ensure domestic energy supplies remain available during a period of global instability.

“Temporarily suspending crude oil exports is a lawful, targeted, and necessary step,” Sherman added. “America’s energy resources should first and foremost benefit the American people.”

McGovern Statement on the Passing of Paki Wieland

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA)

WASHINGTONToday, Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) released this statement following the passing of renowned peace activist Paki Wieland:

Paki was an incredible leader. She was a peacemaker in our community, and a fierce advocate for human rights and human dignity at home and around the world.

Paki and I bonded after we learned that each of us had been arrested—multiple times—for civil disobedience. I often turned to her for advice and guidance—strategizing and working together on how to eliminate nuclear weapons, stand up to defense contractors, and fight back against those who seek war and destruction. Occasionally, we disagreed. But in our disagreement, there was genuine admiration. I saw in Paki someone who loved and cared so deeply, and whose passion and energy could ignite and inspire others to action.

Paki was always willing to stand up for a neighbor in need—and the whole world was her neighborhood. She never stopped speaking out, never stopped organizing, and never stopped challenging the rest of us to live up to our values. I so admired her tenacity and her deep, deep desire to bring peace and love into this world.

I pray that her family finds comfort and inspiration in her memory. Paki touched so many lives, and her spirit and legacy will live on in all of us who will continue fighting on her behalf for a more just, compassionate, peaceful future for all.

The world will miss Paki. I already do.
