Rep. Gomez Votes to Check Trump’s Unauthorized Military Escalation

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement after voting in favor of two War Powers resolutions to prohibit the President from unauthorized U.S. military action in Venezuela and the Western Hemisphere.

“Tonight, I voted for both War Powers resolutions because no president gets to drag this country toward war unilaterally.

“The Constitution is clear: Congress decides when and where the United States goes to war. If the President believes military action against Venezuela or attacking vessels in international waters is necessary, he needs to ask Congress for authorization. Anything less puts American service members and national security at unnecessary risk.

“These resolutions aren’t about inhibiting the military from doing its job, they’re about putting a check on a president sidestepping the Constitution.

“America cannot find its way into another conflict because Donald Trump wants to distract from the scandals that affect him at home. I’m voting to reassert congressional authority and stop the President’s unchecked power grab.

“If Republicans are serious about ending forever wars, it’s time they put their votes where their mouth is and not blindly follow President Trump’s every demand. It’s time to take back control of Congress’s War Powers authority.”

December 26, 2025

Oceanside, CA—Today, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) recognized Rev. Jason Coker and Rev. Jenell Coker, co-lead pastors of The Oceanside Sanctuary, as his December 2025 Co-Constituents of the Month.

Through their tireless leadership, The Oceanside Sanctuary, one of the oldest churches in North County San Diego, provides critical support to vulnerable neighbors who are hungry, unhoused, or struggling, while expressing the grace and goodness of God to anyone in need. In addition, Rev. Jason Coker and Rev. Jenell Coker are community organizers who advocate for socially-just policies that address the root causes of poverty and inequality.

When Rev. Jason Coker started at The Oceanside Sanctuary, the church had fewer than 40 active members and was preparing to close after decades of decline. Today, it is thriving with more than 400 active members and annual contributions exceeding $500,000, making it larger and stronger than at any point in its 150-year history.

Rev. Jenell Coker helped grow The Oceanside Sanctuary into what it is today and has been a religious leader for more than 25 years. She is a certified spiritual director through the University of Redlands and San Francisco Theological Seminary, with spiritual formation rooted in the Christian tradition.

Under their leadership, The Oceanside Sanctuary started a partnership with Feeding San Diego and opened a food panty that provides meals to more than 400 food insecure San Diegans each month. They also joined with other local organizations to offer shelter and aid to asylum seekers who were being dropped off at the Oceanside Transit Center in 2023.

Rep. Levin recognized Rev. Jason Coker and Rev. Jenell Coker for their incredible work and dedication to helping people in their community. They are true pillars of Oceanside and have ensured The Oceanside Sanctuary will always maintain its legacy of service.

See below for Rep. Levin’s statement recognizing Rev. Jason Coker and Rev. Jenell Coaker in the Congressional Record:

“Mr. Speaker, I am proud to recognize Rev. Jason Coker and Rev. Jenell Coaker as my December 2025 Co-Constituents of the Month.

“Rev. Jason and Rev. Jenell Coker are being recognized for their extraordinary leadership, vision, and long-standing commitment to community transformation. Together, they have grown The Oceanside Sanctuary into a thriving, historic congregation that serves as a hub for inclusive, justice-centered ministry in North County San Diego.

“Their work extends far beyond the church walls through ecumenical and interfaith collaboration, nonprofit leadership, education, and community organizing, and is grounded in a fully LGBTQ-affirming faith that prioritizes dignity, equity, and belonging. Through decades of service, the Cokers have demonstrated how thoughtful, courageous leadership can strengthen institutions, empower communities, and create lasting positive change.

“They are immensely deserving of this recognition and our district is better off because of their work.”

Congressman Johnson Fights To Protect Low-Income Residents’ Access To Sources Of Renewable Energy

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Hank Johnson (GA-04)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) led a Georgia delegation letter to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin pressing him to reinstate funding for the Solar for All program that invested $7 billion in clean-energy grants to 60 state, tribal, municipal, and nonprofit organizations, including $156 million to the Georgia BRIGHT Communities Coalition. The program was designed to help nearly 500 homeowners in Georgia who earn less than 80% of the area median income to install solar panels to help defray energy costs, which have skyrocketed in recent years thanks to six rate hikes since 2022 in Georgia.

In the letter, the members said: “Georgia, which faces one of the highest energy burdens in the nation, was on track to establish a stronger, cleaner energy grid. However, the abrupt cancellation of Solar for All grants has forced the Georgia BRIGHT Communities Coalition to pause these programs, delaying the deployment of readily available energy resources and the necessary transition to clean energy. This leaves Georgia families with higher energy bills and fewer job opportunities, while utilities struggle to meet the growing demand for power. We urge your office to approach this matter with transparency and urgency, recognizing the critical role this program can play in supporting a more resilient energy grid, reducing energy costs, and creating economic opportunities for Georgia families.”

These investments expand flight capacity and inspection areas while streamlining the check-in and TSA processes for travelers and increasing possible international flights.

“It has been thrilling to see the airport expansion construction take place and realize how much this will add to Omaha’s “entrance,” said Rep. Bacon. “This expansion will enable Eppley to meet the travel needs of the growing metropolitan Omaha area and welcome international flights. This transformation will shape our region’s future for many decades to come and will be vital for Omaha’s economy. I’m pleased to work with the leaders at Eppley and Sen. Fischer in creating what will become the best airport in the Midwest.”

“Eppley Airport is a critical gateway connecting Nebraskans to the rest of the country and the world. With this funding I secured alongside Rep. Bacon, we’re expanding Eppley’s global reach and strengthening Nebraska’s economy,” said Sen. Fischer.

We are happy to be the recipient of $10 million in Federal Aviation Administration funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” said Dave Roth, Chief Executive Officer of the Omaha Airport Authority. “This grant funding will create benefits for travelers from Omaha and throughout Nebraska. The funds will support continued improvements at Eppley Airfield including increased capacity, improved throughput, and an enhanced customer experience for decades to come.”

Rep. Bacon also announced an Airport Improvement Program grant for the Wahoo Municipal Airport of $382,000 to construct a new 11,000 square foot sponsor-owned hangar for aircraft storage/maintenance to assist the airport to be as self-sustaining as possible by generating revenue. San Francisco – In a deeply personal holiday reflection published today in the San Francisco Examiner, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi reflected on her nearly four decades representing San Francisco in Congress, expressing gratitude for The City’s people, resilience and enduring spirit. Writing directly to San Franciscans, Pelosi emphasized The City’s history of compassion in moments of crisis and its role in leading the nation with dignity, justice and hope.

As she prepares for her final year of service in Congress, Pelosi’s message underscored her belief in San Francisco’s future ‘as heaven on Earth’, reaffirmed her commitment to democratic participation and called on residents to continue lighting the way with goodness for the country and generations to come.

Nancy Pelosi: ‘I believe in San Francisco’

[By Nancy Pelosi, 12/24/25]

Dear San Francisco,

At this holy time of year — a season of reflection, hope and gratitude — my heart is full.

We are blessed to call this extraordinary city home. Yes, its beauty is breathtaking, but the true wonder of San Francisco has always been its people: the workers and families, the students and veterans, the dreamers and doers who fill our neighborhoods — from Chinatown to the Mission, from the Fillmore to the Sunset — with culture, compassion and creativity.

In every season, I am especially grateful for the spirit that has seen us through triumphs and trials alike. When earthquakes struck, when HIV/AIDS devastated our community, when economic hardship tested us — San Franciscans met those moments with courage, innovation and an abiding sense of responsibility for one another. Our city proved that progress is possible when compassion leads the way.

As I wrote recently, America is great when America is good — and San Francisco has always led with goodness. We show the nation what it means to honor the dignity of every person, to welcome newcomers, to stand tall for justice and to build a future rooted in hope.

For nearly 40 years, representing you in Congress has been the greatest official honor of my life. You entrusted me to be your voice, to fight for our shared values, and to bring home resources that strengthened our health care, expanded transit, protected our environment, and lifted up families and communities across our city.

As I prepare for my final year of service as your proud representative, I am filled with gratitude for your confidence, your partnership and your example. And I am filled with optimism in our future. Because I believe in San Francisco. I believe in the goodness of its people. And I believe, as St. Francis teaches us, that we are called always to be instruments of peace.

This Christmas, my prayer for our city — and for our country — is that we continue to offer faith where there is darkness, hope where there is despair and love where there is sorrow; that we remain full participants in our democracy; and that we carry forward our city’s tradition of lighting the way — for the country and for generations to come.

San Francisco, know your power. Know your beauty. Know your goodness.

Thank you for the blessing of representing the greatest city on Earth — the place that I will always believe is heaven on Earth.

May God bless you. And from my family to yours: Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

LaMalfa, USDA Weigh In to Protect Potter Valley Water and Firefighting Resources

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Doug LaMalfa 1st District of California

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) applauded action by the Trump Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to intervene in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) proceedings involving the Potter Valley Hydroelectric Project. The intervention follows direct engagement between LaMalfa, senior USDA officials, and bipartisan Members of Congress to press for a coordinated federal response to protect this critical water supply.

“What’s at stake in Potter Valley is not an abstract policy debate,” said Rep. LaMalfa. “These proceedings are the difference between farms staying in business or shutting their gates for good. Cutting off this water would cripple agriculture across the region, put federal assets at risk, and make an already tough drought and wildfire situation even worse. Reliable water from these reservoirs is critical not just for farming, but for fighting wildfires that threaten homes, businesses, and lives. After sitting down with senior USDA officials and some of my bipartisan colleagues, I appreciate Secretary Rollins and the Trump Administration for stepping in and demanding FERC take these real-world consequences seriously before moving forward.”

Last week, Congressman LaMalfa sent a formal letter to FERC opposing the request to decommission Scott and Cape Horn Dams, which create Lake Pillsbury and Van Arsdale Reservoir. These reservoirs supply water for irrigation, residential use, and firefighting across Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, and Sonoma counties. Removing them would drop local water tables, threaten regional wildfire response, and inflict lasting economic and environmental damage on the farms and the many residents of these areas. USDA submitted a separate letter to FERC raising similar concerns, ensuring the Department can participate directly and advocate for farmers, ranchers, and residents who depend on these flows.

LaMalfa has long warned that surrendering the Potter Valley Project license without a workable replacement would cause lasting harm to agriculture, wildfire readiness, local businesses, and families. USDA’s intervention is a necessary check on a process that has too often prioritized regulatory expediency over real-world consequences.

Congressman Doug LaMalfa is Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus and a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, and Yuba Counties.

Beatty Scores Major Affordable Housing Wins in Financial Services Committee

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (3rd District of Ohio)

WASHINGTON D.C. – Yesterday, the House Financial Services Committee marked up various affordable housing bills, including three provisions led by Congresswoman Joyce Beatty. These measures passed through committee as part of H.R. 6644, the Housing for the 21st Century Act, which will streamline housing development and increase flexibility for local communities. The package now awaits consideration by the full House of Representatives.

H.R. 5913, the Community Investment and Prosperity Act, expands banks’ ability to make community investments that promote public welfare and local economic development by increasing the public welfare investment (PWI) cap. Under current law, national banks and state member banks can invest up to 15% of their capital and surplus in projects that benefit the public good, such as affordable housing, small business lending, and community revitalization. This bill increases that cap to 20%, empowering banks to direct more private capital into projects that strengthen local economies and create opportunities for families and small businesses.

H.R. 6726, the Reforms to Housing Counseling and Financial Literacy Programs Act of 2025, expands foreclosure mitigation counseling, through the Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund, to borrowers who are 30 days delinquent on their mortgage payments. As co-chair of the Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus, Congresswoman Beatty has advocated for greater access to housing counseling to ensure that hardworking families and first-time homebuyers have the financial skills they need to understand their mortgage terms, prevent foreclosure, and maintain stable housing.

Several provisions from H.R. 2031, the HOME Investment Partnerships Reauthorization and Improvement Act, were included in an amendment to the housing package that was adopted by voice vote during the markup. Congresswoman Beatty’s amendment makes key improvements to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) HOME program, which is the largest federal block grant to state and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income and extremely low-income households. In addition to a number of technical fixes to the HOME statute to ensure that funding is being spent appropriately, the amendment eases compliance for small properties and increases flexibility for nonprofits that create and provide low-income housing.
