Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) visited the Bon Air Apartment Complex in Richmond County. Congressman Allen was joined by representatives from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Redwood Housing for a walkthrough of the facility, including several renovated units and floors. After the visit, Congressman Allen issued the following statement:

“Over the last several years, members of my team and I have been in regular communication with HUD and Redwood—consistently demanding that substantial renovations be made at the Bon Air to ensure residents can enjoy a clean and safe living environment. After my visit today, I can confidently say that we have achieved that goal.

“Units and common areas have been updated, security measures are now in place, elevators have been repaired, property management is conducting routine meetings with tenants and representatives from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department, and much more. This has been a long process, and at times challenging, but one thing has been clear from the beginning: we were not taking no for an answer. I am hopeful that with continued communication and accountability, the Bon Air Apartments will remain a modern, safe, and enjoyable atmosphere for all residents and visitors and a place of pride for the surrounding community.”

Carbajal Announces Significant Federal Funding for Santa Barbara County Projects

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Salud Carbajal (CA-24)

U.S. Representative Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24) announced he secured significant federal funding for a series of public projects in Santa Barbara County. Projects include improvements to local infrastructure, emergency response services, and criminal justice programs.

“Delivering these federal investments is about strengthening the public resources that Santa Barbara County residents rely on every day,” said Rep. Carbajal. “From safer roads and modernized emergency response facilities to compassionate animal care and survivor‑centered support services, this funding will strengthen the essential services and shared spaces that make Santa Barbara County a healthier, safer, and more connected place to live.”

The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments has been awarded $1,500,000 to fund the Cabrillo Project. The Cabrillo Project will replace two railroad bridges and improve the U.S. 101 highway underpass in the City of Santa Barbara and as a result improve safety for a number of users that travel through this area to access destinations along the Santa Barbara waterfront while providing a key connection across U.S. 101. The Project will replace bridges at two locations: Cabrillo Boulevard and at Los Patos Way, each of which are over 100-years old and have exceeded their design life. At Cabrillo Boulevard, the existing 29’ span will be widened and lengthened.

“Congressman Carbajal’s support helps keep the City of Santa Barbara’s Cabrillo project on track as construction begins on the final segment of Highway 101 Carpinteria to Santa Barbara corridor,” said SBCAG Executive Director Marjie KIRN. “Improvements at Cabrillo are what will allow residents and visitors to safely and efficiently access the waterfront and surrounding neighborhoods—delivering the full benefit of the highway investments to the public.”

The City of Santa Maria has been awarded $1,200,000 to expand the space at the downtown fire station to accommodate a third fire vehicle and associated fire personnel. The downtown station was built in 2002, at the time serving a population of 79,000. Since then, the population of Santa Maria has grown almost 40 percent to approximately 110,000. The City of Santa Maria anticipates the population to grow by another 30 percent, or an additional 34,000 people by 2050.

“On behalf of the City of Santa Maria and our 110,000 residents, I want to extend our deepest thanks to Representative Carbajal for securing $1.2 million for the Fire Station 1 Expansion Project. This funding brings us significantly closer to completing a project that will strengthen emergency response in our downtown core and serve our community for the next 25 years. We appreciate that we have such a dedicated partner in Washington,” said Santa Maria Mayor Alice Patino.

“We are incredibly grateful to Representative Carbajal for securing $1.2 million for the expansion of Fire Station 1. This funding is a critical investment in the safety of our community. Station 1 is our busiest station, and this project will allow us to house a third fire vehicle and additional personnel needed to serve Santa Maria’s growing population. Representative Carbajal’s commitment to our city is making a real difference,” said Fire Chief Bradley J. Dandridge.

Santa Barbara County has been awarded $850,000 for the rebuilding of the Lompoc Animal Shelter. The shelter needs facility improvements in order to continue to supply the community with quality Animal Services support, and to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the animals in the region.

“This $850,000 secured by Congressman Carabajal is transformational for our shelter. Modernized kennels mean healthier, less stressed animals, improved conditions for our staff and volunteers, and a facility that truly reflects the compassion of the Lompoc community. From families in Lompoc to the service members at Vandenberg Space Force Base, so many people rely on the work of the shelter — and now we have the resources to do it even better,” said Supervisor Joan Hartmann, Third District Santa Barbara County.

The City of Santa Barbara has been awarded $850,000 for the Eastside Library Improvements Project to upgrade interior spaces to better serve community members and to the two outdoor patios with outside reading spaces and play and sensory areas for children.

“The City of Santa Barbara greatly appreciates Congressman Carbajal’s advocacy to help fund a community asset as important as our Eastside Library. The improvements at that facility are critical as it is more than just a branch of our library system, but it is a highly-used educational facility and community meeting location. My colleagues and I use that location frequently for neighborhood gatherings and outreach, as well as community celebrations. The Congressman clearly recognizes the role that the Eastside Library plays in forming and maintaining the social fabric of the Santa Barbara community,” said Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse.

The City of Carpinteria has been awarded $850,000 to establish a community center. Carpinteria is currently the only incorporated city in Santa Barbara County that does not have a dedicated community center to host programming for senior citizens and other community groups.

“The City of Carpinteria is extremely grateful to Congressman Carbajal for helping bring this funding to Carpinteria. These funds will allow us to remain focused on critical infrastructure without sacrificing support for the programs and spaces that serve our residents,” said Michael Ramirez, City Manager for City of Carpinteria.

The Santa Barbara District Attorney has been awarded $236,375 to renovate commercial office space at 235 W. Pueblo Street. This construction project is designed to meet the current needs of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Program/Exam site and more adequately serve sexual assault survivors and child victims of crime in Santa Barbara County.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office is immensely grateful to Congressman Salud Carbajal for his advocacy in securing a $236,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help complete our new Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and Child Advocacy Center (CAC) site in Santa Barbara and update our SART/CAC with advanced forensic and recording technology enhancing the quality of our services and strengthening the pursuit of justice,” said Megan Rheinschild, Victim-Witness Assistance Program Director at the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office.

The funding, which Carbajal championed over the course of the past year’s federal budget negotiations, was signed into law as part of the annual government appropriations process.

In the spring of 2025, Rep. Carbajal began to push for funding for these projects through formal requests to the House Appropriations Committee for Fiscal Year 2026.

The funding was secured through the Community Project Funding (CPF) initiative first launched in 2022. Projects must be in the public interest, be good uses of taxpayer dollars, and be certified to not conflict with the representative’s personal financial interests.

WATCH: On Affordable Care Act Anniversary, Davids Calls to Extend Health Care Tax Credits, Lower Costs for Kansans

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-3)

Today, on the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, Representative Sharice Davids is once again calling on Congress to extend critical health care tax credits that have helped more than 160,000 Kansans afford coverage and save an average of $700 annually. Because Republican politicians refused to act, these enhanced tax credits have expired — driving up costs and putting affordable coverage out of reach for working families, seniors, and small business owners.

“Families are already feeling the squeeze from rising costs, and higher health care premiums are only making it harder to get by,” said Davids. “These tax credits made a real difference for Kansans, helping them afford doctor visits and prescriptions, and giving them peace of mind. On the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, we should be building on that progress, not going backward. Congress needs to act to extend these savings and bring stability back to the health care marketplace.”

WATCH: Davids speaks on the necessity to overcome partisan gridlock and extend health care tax credit

The enhanced ACA tax credits previously helped lower costs for Kansans, but their expiration is now leading to steep premium increases. Some Kansans are facing dramatic spikes in their monthly costs:

  • A Mission Woods resident saw premiums rise by more than $17,000 annually
  • A Prairie Village resident saw premiums rise by more than 3,000 percent
  • An Edwardsville resident saw premiums rise by more than $2,000 annually

Nationally, the lapse in these tax credits is projected to increase premiums by an average of 77 percent and could push millions of Americans off their health insurance. Health policy experts warn that as premiums rise, healthier individuals may drop coverage, leaving a smaller, higher-risk insurance pool—driving costs even higher for those who remain insured.

Davids has led efforts in Congress to strengthen these tax credits, voting to extend them through 2028. She has also pushed House leadership to take action, hosted events with Kansans impacted by rising costs, and consistently advocated for policies that lower health care expenses.

Hoyer Statement on the 16th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Steny H Hoyer (MD-05)

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement on the 16th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

“Sixteen years ago today, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. It represented a fundamental promise to the American people: that no one should have to choose between their health and their financial security. That promise has been kept for millions of Americans. The ACA cut the uninsured rate in half. Some 50 million have received coverage under the law in the past 16 years, and 100 million people with pre-existing conditions have received protections from discrimination. Another 20 million low-income Americans across forty states gained coverage through the law’s Medicaid expansion. To this day, Americans under the age of 26 can stay on their parents’ health insurance.

“The ACA’s legacy is undeniable but it is also under attack. Republicans’ refusal to renew the tax credits for the ACA has caused health care costs to skyrocket for 22 million Americans. The end of those credits paired with Trump’s draconian cuts to Medicaid have cost some 19,800 people in Maryland’s Fifth District to lose their health coverage. That is unacceptable.

“Putting the Affordable Care Act on the House Floor as Majority Leader in 2010 and helping secure its passage was one of the most important moments in my six decades of public service. My commitment to protecting the progress we made that day has never wavered. I will keep fighting to extend the tax credits for the ACA and to protect every American’s access to quality, affordable health care.”

Amata Congratulates Micah Gurr for Acceptance to Air Force Academy Preparatory School

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Aumua Amata (Western Samoa)

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is congratulating Micah Tiamanini I’atala Gurr for his acceptance to the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado Springs.

The mission of the Preparatory School, established in 1961, is to provide a rigorous ten-month program refining the academic, leadership, and physical skills to prepare cadet candidates for success as future officers. Admission is selective and competitive. Numerous USAFA Preparatory School graduates have gone on to distinguished military and academic careers and honors, including prestigious scholarships, fellowships, general officer ranks, and even astronauts.

Cadet candidates who were not already enlisted at the time of their acceptance are placed on active duty in the Air Force Reserves during the program.

“Congratulations to Micah Gurr on this acceptance. Micah has an exciting year in store for him, then we look forward to another announcement in a year updating his next step,” Congresswoman Amata.  “Only excellent students get this opportunity, as the Service Academies look for important marks of leadership and motivation to qualify for Preparatory School. Congratulations to his proud parents, Malaeoletalu and Shantel Gurr, as well as his teachers, and Samoana High School.”

A Service Academy preparatory school requires strong academics, high test scores, and the demonstration of extracurricular activities, volunteering, or other roles that show leadership and motivation.

Congresswoman Amata nominated Micah this January among a group of six student nominees who sent in nine total Service Academy applications this year from American Samoa. He is the second announcement from this class of nominees.

Service Academy Application Information

Congresswoman Amata’s Chief of Staff, Col. Leafaina Tavai, U.S. Army (Ret.), who was the first service academy graduate from American Samoa, graduating from the U.S. Military Academy, recommends that motivated students consider applying to multiple Academies, and notes that students cannot be nominated by the Congresswoman without a completed application on file with the Academy ahead of the congressional nomination.

The Service Academies are selective and highly competitive. Prospective applicants should evaluate their interest in five total Service Academy possibilities: The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. The Coast Guard Academy does not include a congressional nomination process, but the Congresswoman will be very happy to highlight and congratulate every Academy acceptance, so American Samoa can take pride in each of these high-achieving students.

Hudson Leads Bipartisan Letter to Rubio to Counter Chinese Telecom Threat

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08)

Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-09) sent a bipartisan letterto Secretary of State Marco Rubio, requesting the State Department use its diplomatic efforts to counter the spread of Chinese telecommunications networks and strengthen U.S. leadership in global technology standards.

Hudson and a bipartisan group of lawmakers sent the letter urging U.S. diplomats to prioritize secure, trusted telecommunications networks in engagements abroad, especially in developing regions where Chinese-backed firms are expanding.

“The CCP seeks to sideline the United States in international telecommunication and technology standards bodies. If successful, our allies and partners around the world may increasingly turn to CCP-linked entities for telecommunications and satellite solutions, and digital services. This is bad for American businesses, bad for Americans who rely on these devices and services in their daily lives, and ultimately undermines our economic and national security. Given this, the U.S. should be an active participant in all upcoming ITU engagements,” said Rep. Hudson.

At a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee hearing on securing U.S. leadership in communications technology, Hudson reinforced the need for stronger coordination with allies and a clear strategy to counter China’s influence in global telecom and satellite systems.

Hudson emphasized decisions made now on 5G, 6G, and spectrum policy will shape economic competitiveness and national security for decades.

Hudson Bill to Complete National EMS Memorial Passes House

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressman Richard Hudson’s (NC-09) H.R. 2196, the National Emergency Medical Services Memorial Extension Act, unanimously and with bipartisan support. The bill gives the National Emergency Medical Services Memorial Foundation more time to complete the National EMS Memorial in Washington, D.C. at no cost to the taxpayer.

“Each year, 850,000 EMS professionals answer more than 30 million calls at a moment’s notice. It’s time we recognize these unsung heroes and honor their service with a permanent memorial in our nation’s capital,” said Rep. Hudson.

“EMS workers provide life-saving care, often risking their own lives in the process. Those brave men and women deserve a memorial in Washington, D.C., to honor their sacrifices. More time is needed to complete this important memorial, and I applaud Rep. Hudson for his efforts to get that timeline extended,” said Rep. Westerman (R-AR).

H.R. 2196 is a clean, bipartisan extension bill. Congress first authorized the memorial in 2018, but that authority expired under the Commemorative Works Act before the project could be completed. Hudson’s bill extends the authorization for an additional seven years from enactment, giving the Foundation time to complete approvals and private fundraising so the memorial can move forward.

BACKGROUND

In 2018, Congress authorized the National Emergency Medical Services Memorial Foundation to establish a commemorative work in Washington, D.C., honoring EMS professionals. Under the Commemorative Works Act, that authority expires after seven years unless extended.

EMS personnel are often the first to respond in moments of crisis, including natural disasters like hurricanes in North Carolina, accidents, and public health emergencies. Despite their service and sacrifice, there is still no permanent memorial in the nation’s capital honoring EMS professionals who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Department of the Interior supports H.R. 2196, and the bill was favorably reported by the House Natural Resources Committee after a legislative hearing before the Subcommittee on Federal Lands.
