Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-09), released the following statement following the capture of Narco-Terrorist Dictator Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

Democrats spent years making excuses while an illegitimate dictator and indicted Narco-Terrorist destabilized the hemisphere and endangered American lives. Accountability finally came.

Parents in our community can rest easier knowing a major peddler of fentanyl is off the streets.

I’m grateful for the heroes who carried out this mission and praying for their safe return home.”

Rep. Hudson, North Carolina Delegation Secure $213 Million Rural Health Investment for NC Communities

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08)

Last week, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)  announced North Carolina will receive $213 million under the Rural Health Transformation Program, one of the largest funds for rural health programs in history, created by President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cut.

“I’m pleased that President Trump and House Republicans delivered $213 million for North Carolina through H.R. 1, the Working Families Tax Cut, creating the largest rural health care investment in a generation,” said Rep. Hudson. “As one of the most rural states in the nation, serving nearly eight percent of the U.S. rural population, North Carolina is well-positioned to expand access to care and strengthen rural providers.

“I’m disappointed the Governor’s Office did not coordinate with federal and local partners during the application process, which appears to have limited the funding our communities deserve,” Hudson continued. “I look forward to continued engagement with rural providers and stakeholders to make sure North Carolinians get the health care access they need.”

This comes shortly after U.S. Representative Richard Hudson and the North Carolina congressional delegation sent a letter urging CMS to allocate funds to match the vast rural population North Carolina serves. They urged approval of North Carolina’s application and outlined the urgent need to recognize the state’s uniquely rural population and health care challenges.

North Carolina is home to nearly 3 million rural residents across 85 counties, making it the second-most rural state in the nation and accounting for up to eight percent of the U.S. rural population.

These funds come from the Rural Health Transformation Program — part of a $50 billion, five-year investment designed to expand access to care, support rural providers, strengthen the health care workforce, and modernize rural health infrastructure.

The delegation specifically highlighted that existing federal guidance excluded counties such as Moore and Pitt, which serve some of North Carolina’s most isolated rural patients, while including larger urban counties. Members pressed CMS to ensure funding decisions reflected real-world rural health care delivery rather than arbitrary classifications.

Why this matters for North Carolina:

  • 24 counties lack adequate primary care access
  • 90 counties are designated mental health shortage areas
  • 12 rural hospitals have closed since 2006

Rural Health Transformation Program – North Carolina Impact

Created under President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cut, the Rural Health Transformation Program represents the largest investment in rural health care in a generation, designed to:

  • Expand access to affordable, quality care in rural communities
  • Support and retain rural health care providers
  • Strengthen workforce development
  • Invest in technology, innovation, and health infrastructure
  • Improve preventive care and long-term health outcomes

Statement from Congresswoman Joyce Beatty on Today’s Trump Administration Actions in Venezuela

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (3rd District of Ohio)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-OH-03) issued the following statement on Trump Administration’s military actions in Venezuela earlier today:

“The American people and Congress deserve transparency, accountability, and clear answers before the United States is drawn into another open-ended conflict.

Nicolás Maduro is an illegitimate, authoritarian ruler who has brutalized the Venezuelan people and dismantled democratic institutions. They deserve a genuine path to democracy.

At the same time, the President of the United States is bound by the Constitution and the rule of law. Military action cannot be undertaken without congressional authorization, clearly defined objectives, or a plan for what comes next.

President Trump has offered shifting justifications for aggressive action in Venezuela over time, ranging from counter-narcotics efforts to protecting oil reserves, which makes the nature of this latest escalation deeply concerning.”

New Lawsuit Challenges Illegal Renaming of the Kennedy Center

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (3rd District of Ohio)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty today sued President Trump and others to stop the unlawful renaming of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The lawsuit was brought on behalf of the Congresswoman in her capacity as an ex officio trustee of the Kennedy Center by Democracy Defenders Action and the Washington Litigation Group. Congresswoman Beatty participated in the recent Board meeting and alleges she was prevented from speaking when she attempted to object to the renaming.

“Only Congress has the authority to rename the Kennedy Center. President Trump and his cronies must not be allowed to trample federal law and bypass Congress to feed his ego,” said Congresswoman Beatty. “This entire process has been a complete disgrace to this cherished institution and the people it serves. These unlawful actions must be blocked before any further damage is done.”

Shortly after President Kennedy’s assassination, Congress designated the Kennedy Center as the sole national memorial within the nation’s capital to the late President. The lawsuit argues that because Congress named the center by statute, changing the Kennedy Center’s name requires an act of Congress.

The suit follows a December 18, 2025 announcement that the Board had voted to rebrand the Kennedy Center with President Trump’s name, and the rapid installation of new exterior signage and related digital branding changes the next day. The lawsuit contends that the Board’s action is legally void and damages the institution’s public mission by turning a national memorial into a political vanity project.

“The President and his sycophants have no lawful authority to rename the Kennedy Center,” said Amb. Norman Eisen (ret.), founder of Democracy Defenders Action and Nathaniel Zelinsky, Senior Counsel at Washington Litigation Group. “Congress named the Kennedy Center as a national memorial to President Kennedy, and only Congress can change that. We are proud to represent Congresswoman Beatty as she defends the integrity of this institution and the separation of powers.”

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, asks the court to declare the Board’s renaming vote unlawful and without legal effect, order removal of the physical and digital signage and branding changes, restore the Kennedy Center’s lawful name, and prevent further attempts to rename it without congressional authorization.

Statement from Congresswoman Joyce Beatty on the Fifth Anniversary of the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (3rd District of Ohio)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-OH-03) issued the following statement on the fifth anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol:

“We will not forget, even as the past few days have sought to test our memory and our resolve.  We will not forget what happened in our nation’s Capitol five years ago. We will not forget the violence, the fear, or the deliberate attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power. January 6 was a violent insurrection incited by Donald Trump. It was an attack on Congress, on the Constitution, and on democracy itself.

We will also not forget who stood in the breach.

Because of the extraordinary bravery of the United States Capitol Police and other law enforcement officers, democracy held. More than 140 officers were seriously injured. Some lost their lives. Others carry lasting wounds. They protected the people, the institution, and the democratic system this Capitol was built to uphold.

We will not forget our obligation to honor the officers who saved lives and preserved democracy. Congress passed a law to place a plaque at the Capitol recognizing their service and sacrifice. That plaque is complete, yet it remains unplaced. Failing to honor that commitment dishonors the very people who allowed Members of Congress to return to safety that day.

Since that fateful day, these defenders of democracy have too often been ignored, while those who stormed the Capitol are treated as heroes. We cannot allow history to be distorted or truth to be replaced with lies. When that happens, we weaken our democracy and make ourselves more vulnerable as a nation.

On the first day of his presidency, Donald Trump pardoned nearly 1,600 individuals involved in the attack. Some had prior criminal records. Others have gone on to commit new crimes since receiving pardons, including child molestation, kidnapping, and sexual assault. That is the truth, and we will not forget it.

Today and always, we remember the defenders of this democracy.
We honor those who gave their lives and their health.
And we will not allow January 6 to be erased, rewritten, or denied.”

Rep. Cline Secures Over $188 Million for Rural Health Care Improvements in Virginia

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Ben Cline (VA-06)

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Virginia is receiving $189,544,888 under the Rural Health Transformation Program. The program was created through H.R. 1, legislation supported by Rep. Ben Cline (VA-06), who also recently joined Virginia’s Republican House delegation in backing the Commonwealth’s successful grant application.

“I was proud to support Virginia’s application and help secure nearly $190 million to improve access to quality health care in our rural communities,” said Rep. Ben Cline. “This investment will expand access to care for families who often face long travel times and provider shortages, support and retain rural health care workers, and modernize facilities so they can better meet the needs of patients across the Commonwealth. Strengthening rural health care is essential to the well-being of our communities, and this funding represents a meaningful step toward ensuring Virginians can receive care close to home.”

BACKGROUND:

The Rural Health Transformation Program’s $50 billion in funds will be allocated to approved states over five years, with $10 billion available each year from 2026 through 2030. Virginia will have the opportunity to receive additional funds each year until 2030.

Congressman Ben Cline represents the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia. He previously was an attorney in private practice and served both as an assistant prosecutor and a Member of the Virginia House of Delegates. Cline and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Botetourt County with their two children.

Speaker Johnson: There is Only One Party Capable of Restoring American Greatness, and It’s the Republicans

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04)

WASHINGTON — This morning, at the first weekly House Republican Leadership press conference of 2026, Speaker Johnson discussed yesterday’s House Republican kickoff policy summit, Congressional Democrats in disarray over the ousting of Nicolas Maduro, and the constitutionality of the Trump Administration’s successful actions in Venezuela. Speaker Johnson also addressed the tragic passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa.

“Every Democrat, remember this too, voted for record tax increases, while every Republican voted for record tax cuts and refunds to the people,” Speaker Johnson said. “And we hope everybody remembers that simple fact the next time the Democrats start talking about trying to make life more affordable and all this. There’s only one party actually doing that, it’s the Republican Party.”

Watch Speaker Johnson’s full remarks here.

On the House Republican Agenda 250 policy forum:

We began our fateful year yesterday, as I mentioned with the Agenda 250 policy forum. It was very efficacious, very productive. Nearly every member of the conference attended, very beneficial time that we had together. And the team behind me is ready to hit the ground running, to continue delivering on our mandate. And all of our members are committed to that. There’s a great sense of unity in the House Republican Conference. I think I can say, unlike I’ve ever seen before, resolve, locked arm in arm, understanding what’s ahead of us, what we need to continue to accomplish, and we’re bullish about doing that.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said a lot over the holiday about what we’re to anticipate in the new year. He’s echoing some of the things that we have been saying and feeling when our constituents are already beginning to feel. In one of these interviews, he said, “2025 merely set the table. The feast and the banquet will be in 2026. It’s going to be a blockbuster year.” And I think he’s exactly right. Our Working Families Tax Cuts, the big beautiful bill, those provisions will hit American households and wallets, and you’re going to see all boats begin to rise. And while Democrats continue to wither, Republicans will continue to demonstrate that we are the only team capable of restoring American greatness. We don’t just talk about it, we do it. And you know, it’s our legislation; if it was not for these bills, let’s not forget, American families would have experienced the largest, most crushing tax increase in the history of the country in 2026, all those Trump-era tax cuts would’ve expired, and we’d have had $5 trillion of taxes just descend upon all families in this country. We stopped that and we turned it back the other direction. Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts, that will be avoided completely. All American families are going to receive the largest tax refund they ever have. And that all begins very soon here. Every Democrat, remember this too, voted for record tax increases, while every Republican voted for record tax cuts and refunds to the people. And we hope everybody remembers that simple fact the next time the Democrats start talking about trying to make life more affordable and all this. There’s only one party actually doing that, it’s the Republican Party.

On Democrats being in disarray over the ousting of Nicolas Maduro:

I want to make one more point about our meeting yesterday, both House Republicans and House Democrats, as you might have noted, held closed door conference wide meetings this week. House Republicans discussed how we can continue to drive down costs for working families, make our streets and neighborhoods safe again, and restore American dominance on all fronts. And meanwhile, by contrast, what were the House Democrats doing? They held an emergency meeting to determine how to think about the successful ousting of an illegitimate narco-terrorist dictator who killed dissidents, poisoned Americans, and plunged 90% of his country into abject poverty. Nicolas Maduro, who the Biden administration placed a $25 million bounty on, is no longer terrorizing the people of Venezuela anymore….They understand this as acutely as anybody. But because the action was taken by President Trump, Democrats are apoplectic. They claim they didn’t like Maduro either. But because President Trump took action, as was noted earlier, they’re now critical of it. They’re going to cut off their own nose to spite their face. This is the modern Democrat Party. Instead of a caucus wide therapy session, how about Democrats acknowledge that it’s fundamentally good thing for freedom loving people around the world that Maduro is gone?

On the Trump Administration’s actions in Venezuela:

The U.S. military operation in Venezuela was decisive and justified. Nicolas Maduro was responsible for the deaths of Americans after years of trafficking illegal drugs and violent cartel members into this country. And this is undisputed, and everybody knows it. These are crimes for which he’s been properly indicted in a U.S. court, and an arrest warrant was duly issued. And now he has learned what accountability looks like under President Trump. The U.S. is no longer going to allow criminal regimes to profit from wreaking havoc and destruction on our country. That’s what the American people voted for. They wanted to return to the rule of law and sanity at the border, and they wanted this kind of nonsense and dangerous activity to stop. Republicans are putting Americans first and succeeding where others have failed. The operation demonstrated the unmatched precision, effectiveness, professionalism, and capacity of the U.S. military. There’s no fighting force on the planet capable of doing what we can do. And you should sleep well at night knowing that you live under the blanket of that protection.

Our brave military was in and out of Venezuela and two and a half hours, and there wasn’t a single American casualty. It’s really something that everybody should respect and applaud. And because I’m sure you’ll have questions. Let me be clear, the Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war. There’s no dispute about that, of course, but we are not in a war in Venezuela. The Constitution also vests the President with the power as Commander in Chief, that he can use to deploy military forces to address threats to the U.S. and enforce our laws. And that’s exactly what happened here. The War Powers Act that is cited by Democrats, it only requires notification to Congress within 48 hours of the initiation of hostilities. That does not require prior approval. And they properly notified Congress. I mentioned publicly, Secretary Rubio called me at 4:00 AM to notify the Speaker of the House of what was taking place and why. By the way, they submitted that to us in writing. They checked all the boxes of everything they were supposed to do, despite the claims by some of my colleagues. Under the War Powers Act, there’s just not a requirement that they do anything else.

On the tragic passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa:

We woke up yesterday as it’s been mentioned this morning, to very tragic news. Our dear friend and colleague, Doug LaMalfa, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 65. We were on the way into our gathering, our retreat that we had planned for policy planning strategy purposes, and I quite literally found out about it on the way in, and it really shook us. Doug was a great man. He really was, truly a great man. He was a lifelong resident of Northern California and deeply loved the people he represented. He was a fierce fighter, as you’ve heard for his state, its vast natural resources and its beauty and the people he represented. And there are stories coming out from his constituents about how dedicated he was to the people he served, and how in that vast area of Northern California that he covered, he would drive hundreds of miles to go meet with just a handful of constituents. People would ask him about the wisdom of being on the road so much. And he said, I represent them just as much as I do the people in the big city, and they deserve to have their rep. And we just love that, that spirit about him.

Grothman Statement on U.S. Operation to Remove Nicolás Maduro and Combat Narco-Terrorism

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah 6th District Wisconsin)

Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) released the following statement after U.S. forces carried out a targeted operation to remove Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, marking a significant success in the fight against international drug trafficking and narco-terrorism linked to the Maduro regime:

“This operation is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when the United States takes the threat of narco-terrorism seriously,” said Congressman Grothman. “It is nothing short of a miracle that no U.S. troops were killed, and we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who carried out this mission with precision and professionalism.

“For far too long, American presidents have stood by while drug cartels and hostile regimes flooded our country with deadly narcotics. I have always wondered why leaders allowed so many Americans to die from drug overdoses each year without taking meaningful action to stop it.

“The human cost is staggering. Every year, more Americans die from drug overdoses than were killed during the entire Vietnam War – nearly twice as many. That level of loss is unacceptable, and ignoring it is no longer an option.

“Finally, we have a president who cares about the overdose crisis devastating families and communities across this country and is willing to confront the source of the problem. President Trump’s actions send a clear message that the United States will no longer tolerate regimes that profit from poisoning our people.

“It has been exhilarating to see the outpouring of support for President Trump’s leadership from Venezuelans around the world. Their response shows that standing up to corruption, tyranny, and drug trafficking matters – not only for the safety of Americans, but for freedom-loving people everywhere.”

Huizenga Statement on the Capture of Nicolas Maduro

Washington, January 3, 2026

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement regarding the capture of Nicolas Maduro.

Overnight, the United States conducted a successful military operation to apprehend Nicolas Maduro for crimes committed against the American people. This operation was carried out with precision, professionalism, and decades of intelligence. I want to thank the brave men and women who carried out their mission with skill and courage. These are decisive hours for the Venezuelan people. Anyone connected with Maduro should be viewed as illegitimate. The United States should recognize Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, the rightful winner of the past election, as President and work with him in this time of transition until the Venezuelan people can hold a free and fair election.

Huizenga Statement on Elections in Burma

Washington, December 29, 2025

Today, Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement regarding elections in Burma.

As long as the junta is overseeing the election process in Burma and refuses to allow true opposition candidates, any election under these circumstances should be viewed as nothing more than a sham. I call on all ASEAN countries to refrain from legitimizing this staged and predetermined outcome.
