Congressman Riley M. Moore Delivers Major Wins for West Virginians in FY26 Appropriations Package

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Riley Moore (WV-02)

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Riley M. Moore (WV-02) today applauded the passage of the second package of Fiscal Year 2026 spending bills with a vote of 397  to 28. This package includes the FY 26 Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations bills, which advance regular order and deliver targeted investments to strengthen national security, energy dominance, public safety, responsible land management, and important resources for water development projects.

This bicameral funding agreement delivers several victories for West Virginia, including fully funding the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) at $200 million. The ARC is a critical partner for West Virginia, supporting job creation, workforce training, infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, broadband expansion, and efforts to combat substance abuse. These programs help communities attract investment, modernize critical infrastructure, and ensure workers have the skills needed to succeed in today’s economy—particularly in rural and economically distressed areas of the Mountain State.

In addition to strengthening economic development efforts, Congressman Moore secured key investments to protect public health and improve water quality for West Virginia families. This includes funding for water infrastructure projects that remove harmful contaminants such as lead and arsenic from drinking water, ensuring safer and more reliable access for local communities. Congressman Moore also successfully advanced an amendment that was included in the final package to help combat toxic water runoff impacting Wyoming and McDowell Counties—addressing long-standing environmental and public health concerns while protecting local waterways. Together, these investments reflect a comprehensive approach to strengthening communities, protecting families, and delivering real results for West Virginia.

The FY26 appropriations package keeps total spending below projected levels under the current continuing resolution, delivers savings for taxpayers, maintains important protections for the right to life and the Second Amendment, and provides full-year funding to prevent disruptions to essential government services. The House Appropriations Committee has now passed six out of 12 funding bills and seeks to complete consideration of all 12 appropriations bills for the first time in decades through a transparent, member-driven process.

Congressman Riley M. Moore released the following statement:

“I’m proud that the House passed this important package that funds critical programs that impact West Virginians everyday. I am especially grateful to Chairman Tom Cole for his work to reach this agreement. Notably this package includes $200 million for the Appalachian Regional Commission, which I fought for during committee markup. ARC funding is a proven investment that creates jobs in West Virginia, combats addiction, trains our workforce, and improves critical infrastructure in communities that are often overlooked. The passage of these bills delivers real results for all West Virginians—especially my constituents in the Second District.”

Major Investments Secured for West Virginia:

The passage of the appropriations package advances regular order, while also including major local investments in West Virginia, championed by Congressman Riley M. Moore:

  • $1,500,000 for a new Sewer Extension and Improvement in the city of Weston. This will extend sewer service along Corridor H with sufficient capacity to encourage homebuilding and industrial site readiness. With faster access to markets via Corridor H, industrial-grade utilities will position Lewis County and the surrounding region to compete for manufacturing jobs and investments.
  • $1,500,000 for a new Tucker County Regional Sewer System. This will support the construction of a new, integrated wastewater treatment plant to serve the mountain communities of Tucker County. This will encourage business development, protect the local environment, and generate opportunities for homebuilding in Tucker County.
  • $1,000,000 for a new Waterline Extension in the city of Pennsboro. West Virginians along Bonds Creek have faced water shortages and water contamination – including positive tests for lead and arsenic in the drinking water. The will help extend safe, reliable drinking water to residents along Bonds Creek as part of a much larger effort by local leaders to expand public water service.
  • $2,250,000 for a new Clarksburg Water Board for Lead Line Replacement and Water Distribution System Improvements. The Clarksburg Water Board is a large utility in Harrison County. They directly serve more than ten thousand West Virginians. They also sell water to rural public service districts in the surrounding area. This will replace lead pipes – guaranteeing safe, clean, and reliable water service to the people of Clarksburg and the surrounding area.

Congressman Riley M. Moore’s statement on how these projects are crucial to West Virginia’s infrastructure and constituents:

“These are the kinds of investments that truly matter—projects that save lives, protect our most vulnerable, and strengthen communities across West Virginia. The passage of these bills helps deliver real results for the people of the Second District, including critical investments in water and sewer infrastructure that are essential for health, economic growth, and quality of life.

From expanding sewer systems to replacing aging and dangerous water lines, these projects ensure West Virginians have reliable, modern infrastructure they can depend on. West Virginians work hard and expect their government to do the same. I will continue fighting for commonsense solutions that strengthen our economy and deliver for the great people of the Mountain State.”

Rep. Titus Votes to Bring Down Health Care Costs

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Dina Titus (1st District of Nevada)

Rep. Dina Titus (NV-01) released the following statement after voting to pass Leader Jeffries’s discharge petition and extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits for three years:

“I was there when the lifesaving Affordable Care Act was passed. I was there when Senator John McCain gave his iconic thumbs down to killing the program. Now I am witnessing another step forward in the fight for affordable health care for Nevadans,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus. “Despite Speaker Johnson’s best efforts to prevent the extension of ACA tax subsidies, House Democrats have successfully passed a three-year extension of these credits, ensuring that Americans do not have to pay crippling rates.”

“But House Republicans should not be let off the hook for passing the cruel, BS Budget Bill that put us in this mess in the first place,” Congresswoman Titus continued. “They voted to force 64,000 Nevadans off of their health insurance because of dramatic premium spikes. Other households that could afford insurance have been forced to pay an additional $3,690 per year. Our seniors and families have suffered because of this Republican policy.”

“As the clean 3-year extension moves to the Senate, it is now up to my colleagues and President Trump to decide whether to stand up for Nevadans or leave thousands of people without the health care they need to survive,” the Congresswoman said.

Rep. Dina Titus Applauds Passage of FY2026 Appropriations Package

Minibus Bill Includes $4.8 Million in Titus-Secured Projects Benefiting Southern Nevada

Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, announced securing $4.8 million dollars for local funding projects on behalf of Southern Nevada.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First Congressional District, a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, announced securing $4.8 million for community project funding on behalf of Southern Nevada. All five of Congresswoman Titus’s Community Funding Project requests received final passage as part of the Minibus bill to fund several federal government agencies for Fiscal Year 2026.

“This bipartisan appropriations agreement pushes back against Trump Administration cuts and makes investments in key priorities in Southern Nevada. This bill restores funding for the Bureau of Land Management and unlocks federal assistance for critical infrastructure improvements in Southern Nevada,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus. “I’m also pleased this spending package includes $4.8 million in funding for projects I proposed for District One. These projects will help Southern Nevada create jobs, improve our climate resiliency, support our law enforcement personnel, boost STEM education opportunities, and protect the health of our community.”

Projects Championed by Congresswoman Titus include:

  • $980,000 for Boulder City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades. This funding will be used to expand the treatment capacity of existing wastewater facilities while improving their safety and reliability. This project will invest in the water security of the Boulder City community as well as all of Southern Nevada.
  • Over $1 million for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Instrumentation for Pathogen Detection in Water project. This funding will be used to purchase equipment to measure the levels of pathogens in water. The project will implement monitoring systems to detect illicit substances like fentanyl, track infectious diseases, deploy solar-powered technology to produce clean drinking water, and provide evidence-based strategies for enhancing health and water security throughout the state. Early detection of diseases like bird flu or mpox in wastewater will also enable rapid acquisition of vaccines and testing resources for at-risk communities.
  • $750,000 for the Henderson Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Command Vehicle. This funding will be used to replace a two-decades old mobile command vehicle and upgrade associated technologies to deal with community crises. The new Crisis Negotiation Command Vehicle will function as the Henderson Police Department’s primary mobile command vehicle and will be outfitted with the latest technology to serve the citizens of Henderson in emergency situations.
  • Over $1 million for the City of Henderson’s Last Warning Shot Initiative. This will implement a comprehensive anti-violence initiative focused on: improving training for police and prosecutors; providing qualified, consistent forensic examinations; and providing intervention services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This will prevent homicides through the early detection of non-fatal strangulation incidents as well as timely and appropriate prosecution of domestic violence perpetrators. This project is meant to address domestic and sexual violence, which remains a major concern in Southern Nevada with the state ranking second in the nation for domestic violence. Currently, the region lacks the critical infrastructure to reduce these incidents and implement a fuller community effort.
  • Over $1 million for the Nevada System of Higher Education’s Mitigating Wildfire Smoke Impacts in Nevada Project. This will enable the Desert Research Institute to partner with NASA to utilize satellite technology combined with AI to mitigate risks associated with wildland fire smoke in Las Vegas and across Nevada. As wildland fires grow in frequency and severity, the dangers to public health and safety have increased exponentially. This project will work to better track, map, and forecast fires and smoke.

Rep. Titus also helped secure significant investments for our public lands and natural landscapes:

  • Rejects President Trump’s proposed cuts to Bureau of Land Management: Secured $1.26 billion for the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Management of Lands and Resources and $59 million for BLM’s National Conservation Lands, rejecting deep cuts to both accounts proposed in President Trump’s budget request. Congresswoman Titus led an appropriations letter calling for robust funding for both accounts, which are vital to the management and protection of public lands.
  • Protecting Jobs: The bill includes guardrails to ensure that the BLM maintains staffing levels to protect natural and cultural resources, maintain safe and appropriate access and recreation, and consult with tribes. As a proud member of the House Labor Caucus, Congresswoman Titus has spoken out against efforts by the Trump Administration to lay off federal workers or coerce them into leaving public service.
  • And $1 million for the Invasive Species in Alpine Lakes Pilot Program. Congresswoman Titus led provisions to reauthorize this vital program as part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2024

 The legislation also addresses some of our nation’s biggest challenges:

  • Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility: Reasserts Congress’s power of the purse through mandatory staffing thresholds and notification requirements;
  • Keeping Energy Costs Down: Helps address higher energy costs and rising utility bills, increasing investment in electric grid infrastructure by $375 million;
  • Delivering Justice for Women and Girls: Helps keep our communities safe by increasing funding for Violence Against Women Act grants by $7 million;
  • Protecting our Water Resources: Invests in water infrastructure and climate resilience by increasing funding for the Army Corps of Engineers by $1.8 billion ($10.4 billion total);
  • Investing in Clean Energy: Provides $3.1 billion for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy funding, repudiating the Trump administration’s crusade against clean energy;
  • Confronting the Climate Crisis: Protects the environment with $8.8 billion in EPA funding – nearly double the White House budget proposal;
  • Creating American Jobs: Puts more Americans to work in good-paying jobs rebuilding our infrastructure; helps small businesses grow and thrive; fosters the green energy jobs of tomorrow; and supports high-quality job training and apprenticeship programs so every American can contribute and succeed.

House Foreign Affairs Ranking Member Meeks Delivers Remarks at Bipartisan Classified Briefing on Venezuela

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Gregory W Meeks (5th District of New York)

Washington, D.C. – Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today delivered the following remarks, as prepared, while co-leading a bipartisan House Member classified briefing on the Trump administration’s military operations into Venezuela to extract Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

“I will keep my remarks brief to allow ample time for questions, but I want to thank our briefers for being here and acknowledge the professionalism with which our service members and intelligence community executed their mission on January 3.

“As we now know, President Trump ordered the use of U.S. military force to invade a sovereign nation without authorization from Congress. This action was not taken to address an imminent threat to the United States, nor to advance a democratic transition in Venezuela. Instead, it reflects a dangerous worldview—one in which the United States claims the right to impose its will across the hemisphere, echoing the same logic Vladimir Putin uses to justify aggression against his neighbors.

“Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have raised serious concerns about whether this military operation and subsequent nation-building exercise is in the best interest of the American people. We look forward to hearing the administration address those concerns directly.

“The administration also owes us in this room and the American people a clear and honest explanation of its actual objectives in Venezuela, which have shifted from drugs to regime change to controlling a country and its oil.

“Finally, there is a legal burden on the administration to demonstrate that this incursion responded to an imminent threat to the United States sufficient to justify placing U.S. service members in harm’s way. Thank you again for being here.”

LEADER JEFFRIES ON HOUSE FLOOR: “VOTE YES ON EXTENDING THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT TAX CREDITS”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (8th District of New York)

Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke on the House Floor, where he emphasized that Democrats are following through on their commitment to protect healthcare and urged a yes vote on extending the expired Affordable Care Act tax credits for three years.

LEADER JEFFRIESI rise today, Mr. Speaker, in strong support of this bipartisan effort to protect the healthcare of the American people and ensure that we extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits to make sure that tens of millions of Americans do not experience dramatically increased premiums, copays and deductibles.

From the very beginning of this Congress, House Democrats have made clear that we will find bipartisan common ground with any of our Republican colleagues in order to address the affordability issues that are making life more expensive for everyday Americans, working class Americans and middle class Americans. That’s been our commitment from the very beginning. And today, we’re able to take a substantial step forward to address the healthcare crisis that does exist in the United States of America and was made worse by the One Big Ugly Bill, where Medicaid was cut by the largest amount in American history. And as a result of the policies that were part of that legislation, hospitals, nursing homes and community-based health clinics are closing all across America. We’ve also seen an extraordinary assault on the Center for Disease Control, the National Institute of Health, on the Food and Drug Administration, on vaccine availability, on public health and on healthcare of everyday Americans here in the United States of America.

Today, we have an opportunity to push back against that assault and do it in a bipartisan way. That is what the American people have been calling for. Democrats and Republicans working together to address the affordability crisis in this country. It is not a hoax. It is very real. Housing costs out of control, grocery costs out control, electricity bills out of control, childcare costs out of control and healthcare costs out of control. And what we do here today will not be the end of the effort that is necessary, but we can begin the effort that is necessary and extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits.

Several things that were mentioned earlier by some of my colleagues that are completely and totally inaccurate. The Affordable Care tax credits benefit working class Americans, middle class Americans and everyday Americans. And that’s why we’re waging this fight. We know that over 90% of the people who benefit from the tax credits that we’re working to protect today make, on average, $63,000 a year. That’s working class America. That’s middle class America. That’s the heartland of America. That’s rural America. That’s urban America. That’s small town America. That’s what we’re protecting when we extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. And this is not a partisan issue for us. This is an American issue. In fact, we know that the 10 states that will be most adversely impacted by the lapse in the Affordable Care Act tax credits are all, Mr. Speaker, run by Republicans. We’re standing up for the American people. We’re talking about states like West Virginia, Wyoming, Alaska, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and North Dakota, the states most impacted by the lapse in the Affordable Care Act tax credits. This is not a partisan issue for us. It’s a patriotic one. And we will always defend the healthcare of the American people. That’s exactly why this is an important moment for everyday Americans. It’s what they want to see out of this Congress, the People’s House, the Article I branch of government, the House of Representatives, the first amongst equals coming together today. Every single House Democrat and at least 10 House Republicans to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits.

Now, we believeas House Democrats that in this great country of ours, you work hard, you play by the rules, you should be able to live a comfortable life, an affordable life, live the good life. Good-paying job, good housing, good education for your children, good healthcare and a good retirement. Not too much to ask for in the wealthiest country in the history of the world. But a lot of work that needs to be done to make that aspiration, the American dream, the good life, a reality.Andtoday, we take an important step forward in that regard by extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits. And when we get this done and send it over to the Senate and hopefully get it out of that chamber and to the President’s desk, it will be part of our continuing commitment to lower the high cost of living, fix our broken healthcare system here in the United States of America and ensure that in every single part of this country, for working class America, urban America, rural America, suburban America, ex-urban America, the heartland of America and small town America, we can bring the American dream to life.

We will protect the healthcare of the American people today, but our commitment doesn’t end today. We will protect it tomorrow. We will protect it this week. We will protect it next week. We will protect it this month. We will protect it this year. We will protect it next year. We will protect the healthcare of the American people always and forever, and we will always fight to bring the great American dream to life. Vote yes on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits.

Full Floor remarks can be watched here.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following comment on the ICE shooting of a civilian woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“I am outraged by the unnecessary killing of an unarmed woman near a Minnesota ICE operation by a masked ICE agent.
