WASHINGTON — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) issued the following statement in response to reports that the Trump administration, through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), has sent letters abruptly terminating federal grants that fund addiction treatment, overdose prevention, and mental-health services nationwide:

“This administration’s decision to wipe out anti-addiction and mental-health grants overnight is an act of staggering cruelty that will cost lives. These funds keep overdose prevention, crisis response, and recovery services running in communities every day, and cutting them means clinics closing, naloxone disappearing, and families left with nowhere to turn. At the height of a national overdose and mental-health crisis, this administration is knowingly ripping away lifesaving care—and I will fight to reverse these cuts and restore every dollar.”

“I stand with the Iranian people against a regime that has answered peaceful protest with brutal repression and mass killings. I believe the U.S. should do everything possible through its diplomacy and economic power to support the movement opposing the violent and repressive Iranian government. History has shown, however, that foreign military intervention and reckless threats of force often empower hardliners and undermine those working for change. Supporting the brave people of Iran is better served through forceful diplomacy and coordinated international pressure rather than direct military involvement.”

WASHINGTON — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi condemned President Trump’s renewed threat to unlawfully withhold Congressionally approved funding from Chicago and other cities whose laws prohibit local law enforcement from assisting in immigration enforcement operations with ICE and other federal agencies.

“Donald Trump is threatening to illegally withhold Congressionally approved funding to punish Chicago and other cities that won’t bow to him. Courts have already blocked this kind of unlawful power grab, and he’s trying it again anyway. I’m fighting this in Congress and will support every legal effort to stop it. In the United States of America, the president is bound by the law; he is not above it.”

WASHINGTON — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) today sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem demanding that DHS categorically rule out Venezuela as a destination for third-country deportations and halt any actions that would place vulnerable people into conditions of danger, lawlessness, or abuse.

Krishnamoorthi opened the letter by warning that recent public statements from the administration raise the alarming possibility that DHS may be contemplating Venezuela for third-country removals:

 “I write out of profound concern regarding the Department of Homeland Security’s expanding use of third-country deportations and the alarming possibility that Venezuela may be contemplated as a destination for such transfers. In the wake of public statements by President Trump asserting that the United States is now ‘in charge’ of Venezuela, the risk that this administration may seek to treat Venezuela as a third country deportations destination cannot be ignored. DHS must not proceed down that path.”

 The Congressman detailed how DHS has increasingly deported people to countries where they are not citizens and often have no ties, frequently without due process:

“Over the past year, DHS has increasingly deported immigrants to multiple third countries, nations where these individuals are not citizens and often have no ties. Many of those sent away were asylum seekers and had no criminal convictions and were removed without meaningful due process or clear explanation.”

Pointing to recent precedent, Krishnamoorthi cited the mass deportations to El Salvador and the consequences of outsourcing U.S. immigration enforcement to countries in crisis:

“In March 2025, the U.S. government deported hundreds of people to El Salvador, including many who had no criminal record, without giving them a fair chance to challenge their deportation. Many of these individuals were sent to a dangerous mega-prison called CECOT.”

He warned that repeating this model in Venezuela would be even more dangerous and unlawful:

 “Sending people to a place where they are likely to be harmed violates basic human rights and raises serious questions about whether the government followed U.S. law and its duty not to send people into danger. Any effort to replicate this model in Venezuela would be even more dangerous.”

Citing U.S. government travel warnings and binding legal obligations, Krishnamoorthi made clear that Venezuela cannot be treated as a lawful destination for removals:

“The U.S. Department of State continues to warn Americans not to travel to Venezuela, citing the risk of wrongful detention, torture, kidnapping, and arbitrary enforcement of local laws — underscoring that this is no place to send people. Deporting individuals—many of whom fled persecution, political repression, or economic collapse—into a country the United States itself deems unsafe would expose them to grave risk. Venezuela is not a safe third country. It lacks the legal framework, institutional capacity, and humanitarian infrastructure necessary to receive third-country deportees.”

Krishnamoorthi concluded by urging DHS to halt any such actions immediately and provide full transparency to Congress:

“The transfers to countries such as El Salvador should serve as a warning—not a blueprint. DHS must not repeat or expand policies that knowingly place people into conditions of danger, lawlessness, or abuse. The United States cannot allow Venezuela to become the next CECOT—or treat an entire country as an improvised immigration detention facility.”

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Andy Harris, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration, is concerned that Maryland officials may have not done all they could to lower the Payment Error Rate in the Maryland SNAP program. Since hard-earned federal taxpayer dollars are concerned, the whistleblower allegations should be taken seriously and investigated at the state and federal level.

“I appreciated meeting with USDA’s Inspector General John Walk today to discuss my concerns with Maryland’s SNAP payment error rate and specifically the related allegation that State officials intentionally left payment errors unaddressed to delay legal penalties. Inspector General Walk appreciated the concerns I raised and committed to looking into the allegations for any appropriate actions, including any potential criminal actions.”

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), delivered $1,357,500 in federal funding for the Crisfield Fire Station and Emergency Shelter, strengthening emergency response capabilities and improving public safety during severe weather events.

The funding will support the design and construction of a new Crisfield Fire Station, which will also serve as an emergency shelter. The project will help reduce the need for post-storm rescues and improve emergency response during severe weather events.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), delivered $4.5 million in funding through the Fiscal Year 2026 Agriculture appropriations bill to replace the Trappe Volunteer Fire Company’s aging firehouse.

The funding will replace the aging 1951 firehouse with a new single-story, pre-engineered facility that improves firefighter safety, strengthens emergency response capabilities, and better protects the Trappe community.

“Trappe’s volunteer firefighters put themselves on the line every day for their community. A new firehouse will give these firefighters the space and equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), announced $40 million in FY26 Energy and Water Development funding for a new shallow-draft dredging vessel for East Coast navigation channels. The funding addresses sediment buildup that has limited vessel access in Maryland and other heavily used East Coast waterways.

The FY26 appropriations bill includes language authored by Congressman Harris requiring the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to use the $40 million provided to replace Dredge Currituck. Dredge Currituck is one of only two shallow-draft dredges in the Corps’ fleet and has no private-sector equivalent. Replacing Dredge Currituck will restore dredging capacity needed to maintain navigation channels and reduce hazards caused by sediment buildup along the East Coast, including in Maryland.

The legislation also allocates more than $375 million for coastal storm protection and beach management projects nationwide, supporting shoreline maintenance and protecting coastal communities from erosion and storm impacts.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO-06), a combat veteran and member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and House Armed Services Committee, introduced bipartisan legislation, the No Funds for NATO Invasion Act, to prohibit the use of federal funds for an invasion of any North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member state or NATO-protected territory.

Introducing the bill alongside Crow were Representatives Don Bacon (R-NE-02), Bill Keating (D-MA-09), Steny Hoyer (D-MD-05), and Brendan Boyle (D-PA-02).

“America is at our strongest when we honor our alliances and stand by our allies,” said Congressman Crow. “NATO has been a cornerstone of keeping Americans safe, and undermining our alliances through reckless military adventurism puts Americans at risk. The American people don’t want more foreign intervention. They want lower costs and a smart foreign policy to keep us safe.”

Congressman Crow’s No Funds for NATO Invasion Act would:

• Prohibit any federal funds from being made available for the invasion of a NATO member state or any territory protected by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
• Prohibit any officer or employee of the United States from taking any action to execute an invasion of a NATO member state or any territory protected by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Earlier this week, Crow called on the Trump Administration to abandon its attempts at nation-building abroad and instead focus on lowering costs and making life more affordable for Americans at home.

Crow also recently met with leaders from Denmark and Greenland, including Danish Ambassador to the United States Jesper Møller Sørensen and Head of Greenland Representation in the United States Jacob Isbosethsen.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO-06), a combat veteran and Co-Chair of the House Democratic Caucus National Security Task Force, today called on the Trump Administration to focus on lowering costs and making life more affordable for Americans at home, rather than his ongoing nation building exercises and foreign conflicts abroad.

Crow was joined at the weekly House Democratic Caucus press conference by Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu, and fellow Co-Chairs of House Democrats’ National Security Task Force Representatives Maggie Goodlander and Derek Tran.

In his remarks, Crow said:

“As a three-time combat veteran, I get pretty damn hot when a five-time draft dodger like Donald Trump pounds his chest and bangs the war drums in Washington, talking about sending boots on the ground. We’re not even a year into this administration, and President Trump has bombed seven countries. He doesn’t seem to see a problem that he doesn’t think he can bomb his way out of.

“I learned years ago that when elites like Donald Trump bang the war drums and pound their chests in Washington, D.C. and talk about sending troops into the ground or into combat, he’s not talking about his kids. He’s not talking about all of his minions’ kids. He’s talking about kids like me and the people that I grew up with in working-class areas, rural places around the country that have to pick up rifles, jump in the tanks or helicopters, and do the thing. And do the tough work. 

“Well, America is over it. America is over the $3 trillion we’ve spent. The quagmires of failed nation-building. The sending of our sons and daughters and brothers and sisters to enrich oil executives. America is over endless adventurism and using our military. Because they want their infrastructure rebuilt, they want quality, affordable health care, they want to be able to afford groceries, they want to be able to afford a home, and they want to be able to send their kids to school. Those are the things that we are relentlessly focused on as a Democratic Caucus.

“Now, don’t get me wrong: there is a time for strength, there is a time for standing by our allies, and there are certainly times when our military has to go to keep us safe. But what have we accomplished in Venezuela? The Maduro regime remains intact. Sitting here today, two weeks after this mission, the Venezuelan people are under more oppression than they were before, because of the crackdowns. Americans are at greater risk. The cartels are running rampant and free with no crackdown whatsoever. And the drugs that actually are killing our children, fentanyl and meth, don’t even come from Venezuela. They come from other countries. 

“So, I want to know how many billions of dollars this administration has spent to remove somebody that Donald Trump simply does not like, and put in another dictator that he thinks will do his bidding. I want to know, and the American taxpayers deserve to know, how much time and money have been spent on their behalf. America is over it. 

“We’re going to push for War Powers Reform. We’re going to reassert our constitutional authority, because it is not just our right, it is our duty to stand in the breach and take the votes and tell any President, Republican or Democrat, that you can’t continue to send our men and women around the world into harm’s way without a debate and vote in this body.”
