Washington, D.C.– Today, Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced HR 6508, the NATO Act, to remove the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

“NATO is a Cold War relic. We should withdraw from NATO and use that money to defend our own country, not socialist countries,” said Rep. Thomas Massie. “NATO was created to counter the Soviet Union, which collapsed over thirty years ago. Since then, U.S. participation has cost taxpayers trillions of dollars and continues to risk U.S. involvement in foreign wars. Our Constitution did not authorize permanent foreign entanglements, something our Founding Fathers explicitly warned us against. America should not be the world’s security blanket—especially when wealthy countries refuse to pay for their own defense.”

The NATO Act:

– Requires the President to formally notify NATO of U.S. withdrawal under Article 13 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

– Concludes that NATO’s original Cold War purpose no longer aligns with current U.S. national security interests.

– Finds that European NATO members have adequate economic and military capacity to provide for their own defense.

– Prevents use of U.S. taxpayer funds for NATO’s common budgets, including its civil budget, military budget, and the Security Investment Program.

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has introduced companion legislation, S.2174, in the United States Senate.

Congressman Valadao Expands Access to Education in the Central Valley

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman David G Valadao (CA-21)

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman David Valadao (CA-22) joined Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) to reintroduce the bipartisan, bicameral Partnering Aspiring Teachers with High-Need Schools (PATHS) to Tutor Act. This bill would increase access to one-on-one and small group tutoring for students in underserved communities and expand opportunities for future teachers by placing teacher-candidates in tutoring roles. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced the companion bill in the Senate.

“A good education is the key to future opportunity, and it’s important the next generation can accomplish their goals,” Congressman Valadao,  “The PATHS to Tutor Act is a bipartisan, bicameral fix that tackles both challenges at once—making sure our students get the support they need, while giving future teachers real experience in the classroom to help them prepare for their career in education.”

“We need to make it easier, not harder, for qualified future teachers to start their professional careers and help more students get the targeted help they need,” said Congresswoman Lee. “The PATHS to Tutor Act is a win-win for our education system — strengthening opportunities for future teachers and supporting all students, regardless of their needs or what zip code they live in.”

“Sadly, far too many students in Texas do not receive the educational tools they need to succeed,” said Senator Cornyn. “The PATHS to Tutor Act will expand access to small group tutoring in high-need areas while simultaneously reducing economic burdens on our teachers by allowing this tutoring to count toward national service and their TEACH grant service requirement. Texas students deserve every resource we can give them to achieve on a level playing field, and this legislation will give them just that.”

“Across New Jersey and the nation, far too many students in underserved communities are falling behind academically because they lack access to meaningful support,” said Senator Booker. “The PATHS to Tutor Act expands access to high-quality one-on-one and small-group tutoring while strengthening the teacher preparation pipeline by engaging nearly 600,000 aspiring teachers nationwide. This bipartisan legislation narrows the educational opportunity gap and provides both students and future educators with the tools needed for success.”

“The bipartisan PATHS to Tutor Act gives local leaders the tools they need to expand evidence-based tutoring that boosts student learning while preparing the next generation of teachers. It’s a common-sense step that puts students first, supports teachers, and helps every community chart a path toward better outcomes,” said Valerie Sakimura, Executive Director, Deans for Impact (DFI).

“The PATHS to Tutor Act recognizes what we see every day: when aspiring teachers are given real opportunities to serve students, they discover their purpose—and communities thrive. This legislation not only delivers the high-quality tutoring our young people deserve, it helps build a well-prepared educator workforce rooted in service and commitment. It’s a powerful investment in our students, our schools, and the future we want to create together,” said Kathlene Campbell, CEO, National Center for Teacher Residencies.

“The PATHS to Tutor Act is an evidence-based investment in both students and the teaching workforce. By connecting tutoring to educator preparation, it strengthens learning recovery and the teacher pipeline — helping every child receive the support they deserve. AACTE proudly supports this effort because it elevates the essential role of teacher candidates as both learners and leaders in ensuring every child has access to high-quality, individualized instruction,” said Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy, Ph.D., President and CEO, AACTE.

“The PATHS to Tutor Act bipartisan introduction today by Senator Booker and Senator Cornyn, Representative Lee, and Representative Valadao is a critical investment in our students’ success and in America’s communities. High-impact tutoring does more than just accelerate academic outcomes; it builds the meaningful connections with caring adults that students need to feel seen and valued. This relational approach is one of our most effective strategies for combating chronic absenteeism and ensuring every learner has the consistent support system necessary to flourish both academically and socially,” said Erin Mote, CEO, InnovateEDU.

Supporting organizations include: Deans for Impact (DFI), National Center for Teacher Residencies (NCTR), American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), Teach Plus, National Center for Grow Your Own (NCGYO), TNTP, Communities in Schools, Education Trust, AASA, The School Superintendents Association, Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA), National Rural Education Association (NREA), National Association of Schools Boards of Education (NASBE), National Rural Education Advocacy Consortium (NREAC), New Leaders, Teach for America, Teaching Matters, Committee for Children, CASEL, National Black Child Development Institute, Consortium on Reaching Excellence in Education, NIET, InnovateEDU, Saga, Alliance for Catholic Education, New Jersey Tutoring Corps, Virginia Learns, EduTutorVA, Clark County School District, and the North Carolina Education Corps.

The PATHS to Tutor Act:

  • Places teacher-candidates into tutoring roles, strengthening the pipeline of future teachers while ensuring students in underserved communities receive targeted academic support.
  • Expands access to high-quality tutoring through a $500 million competitive grant program disbursed by local partnerships of educator-preparation programs, K-12 schools, and community organizations.
  • Reduces the economic burden on aspiring teachers by allowing successful completion of a tutoring placement to qualify for national service educational awards granted by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

Background:

More than 600,000 individuals are enrolled in teacher-preparation programs nationwide—an untapped resource that can provide students with critical academic and social-emotional support. By engaging these future educators in high-impact tutoring, we can help students get back on track while also strengthening the pipeline of qualified teachers prepared to lead classrooms in the years ahead.

LEADER JEFFRIES: “THE TRUMP-REPUBLICAN ECONOMY IS NOT AN A+”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (8th District of New York)

Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a press conference, where he reiterated that Democrats are committed to lowering the high cost of living across the country, starting with protecting Americans’ healthcare by extending the ACA tax credits.

LEADER JEFFRIESDonald Trump had the unmitigated gall yesterday to rate the economy an A+ five times over. Working class Americans, everyday Americans, hardworking American taxpayers are struggling in the Trump economy to live paycheck to paycheck. Can’t thrive, can barely survive. Cost of living is completely and totally out of control. Donald Trump and Republicans have done nothing to lower the high cost of living. Costs haven’t gone down, costs are going up. Housing costs, out of control. Electricity costs, out of control. Child care costs, out of control. Grocery costs, out of control. And healthcare costs, out of control. And about to get worse. Because Donald Trump and Republicans refuse to do anything to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. The Trump-Republican economy is not an A+. Everyday Americans are not confused about that. And if there’s any debate as to the success or failure of this economy related to how it may be graded, the only question is whether the American people would give it a D for disaster or an F for failure. That’s it. Nothing else.

Now, House Democrats are going to continue to focus on driving down the high cost of living, fixing our broken healthcare system and actually making life better for the American people. And we can start by extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Time has run out. Democrats have been pressing our Republican colleagues for months to deal with the healthcare crisis that they have created. And in a matter of just a few weeks, tens of millions of Americans who live in every single state across this country are about to experience dramatically-increased healthcare costs. In some instances, premiums are going to increase by a thousand or two thousand dollars per month. How is that acceptable in the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world? That because of congressional inaction, people are going to go bankrupt medically, or will be unable to see a doctor when they need one, when their families need one or when their children need one.

House Democrats are going to continue to press our case. 214 Democrats. Every single House Democrat supports legislation to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and has signed a discharge petition to force an up-or-down vote. All we need are four House Republicans. Just four. There are 219. All we need are four to join us. Keep your word to the American people that you are not gonna let the Affordable Care Act tax credits expire.

LEADER JEFFRIES: “REPUBLICANS STILL HAVE NOT PRODUCED A BILL TO DRIVE DOWN THE HIGH COST OF LIVING”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (8th District of New York)

Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a press conference, where he emphasized that while Donald Trump and Republicans are fighting each other and driving up costs, Democrats are fighting to lower the high cost of living, fix our broken healthcare system and clean up corruption.

LEADER JEFFRIES: House Republicans went on an eight-week, taxpayer-funded vacation while shutting the government down and hurting the American people. During that taxpayer-funded vacation, House Republicans didn’t do a single thing to make life better for the American people. We’ve been back now in session legislatively for two weeks, and yet they still have not produced a bill to drive down the high cost of living, to address the Republican healthcare crisis or to make life better for everyday Americans. It’s clear to us that House Republicans have no intention to do anything other than continue to drive down right-wing extremism through the throats of the American people. House Republicans promised, along with Donald Trump, that they were going to lower costs on day one. Costs aren’t going down in the United States of America. Costs are going up. Housing costs through the roof. Electricity bills through the roof. Grocery costs through the roof.

And now, as a result of the Republican refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, tens of millions of people are on the verge of experiencing dramatically-increased healthcare costs that will either push them into medical bankruptcy or prevent them from being able to go see a doctor when they need one. And yet, we still see nothing from the Republican Party as it relates to addressing the healthcare crisis that they’ve created because they’re too busy fighting each other and spending time trying to find different ways to reward their billionaire donors. The American people deserve better. You deserve better. And House Democrats are going to continue to fight to lower the high cost of living, to fix our broken healthcare system and to clean up corruption so we can deliver a country that actually works for working class Americans.

Congressman Baird Statement on Trump Administration’s Farmer Bridge Assistance Program

Washington, December 9, 2025

Today, Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) released the following statement after President Trump announced the Farmer Bridge Assistance Program, an economic assistance package for American farmers:

“President Trump and his administration have made it clear that they will put American farmers first. Previously, our farmers and producers were struggling under unfair trade practices and rising input costs as a result of Biden’s inflationary agenda. This historic investment will provide much-needed economic relief until farmers can benefit from the upcoming increase in reference prices passed in the Working Families Tax Cuts. I was proud to see that one of my constituents, Tyler Everett of Everett Family Farms, joined President Trump, Secretary Rollins, and Secretary Bessent for this historic announcement that will help fix our great ag economy. I thank the president, Secretary Rollins, and Secretary Bessent for their continued efforts to ensure our farmers thrive and to create a more level playing field on the world stage.”

Trahan Leads House, Senate Democrats Demanding Accountability for Army Sexual Misconduct Failures

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA-03)

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03), Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) members Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), Jill Tokuda (HI-02), Nanette Barragán (CA-44), Veronica Escobar (TX-16), and Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) led 58 House and Senate Democrats demanding accountability for the Army’s failure to stop widespread sexual misconduct.

More than 80 women have recently come forward in a lawsuit alleging that Dr. Major Blaine McGraw made sexual advances toward, directed lewd comments at, and secretly recorded patients during medical exams while working at Fort Hood and Tripler Army Medical Center. Dr. McGraw did not face any disciplinary action until this October, when he was suspended from his position.

In their letter, the lawmakers condemned the Army’s longstanding inaction despite multiple reports from servicewomen and military wives describing abuse at the hands of Dr. McGraw. The letter also outlines specific examples of the unconscionable abuses survivors faced during treatment, including the story of Jane Doe.

“After reportedly being assaulted during a patient visit with Dr. McGraw, Jane Doe said she begged a desk attendant to make a report. Instead, she was told to ‘call or send an email.’ Jane Doe alleges she called the hospital seven different times but she was dismissed and hung up on each time. The purported lack of response and urgency to respond to these complaints would clearly violate reporting policy and the Army’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Program protocols,” the lawmakers wrote.

In their letter, the House members and Senators also expressed broader concerns that the Army’s inaction represents a consistent failure to respond to sexual misconduct.

“In the lawsuit, female servicemembers and patients noted that a recurring issue was the lack of adequate response from Army leadership. Reportedly, when victims and their loved ones tried to make complaints with Army leadership, they were ‘refused meetings at every level.’ If true, these women deserve better. The alleged dismissive response from the Army demonstrates an immense failure at every level to properly support survivors,” the lawmakers continued.

The letter concluded with the Members and Senators demanding a full investigation, explanations on how complaints were handled, and stronger protections to ensure no woman faces this abuse again.

“The allegations against Dr. McGraw are extremely serious, and the Army’s criminal investigation of this matter must continue unabated. That said, the separate concerns raised by survivors about members of the Army at many levels not timely acting on their complaints must be confronted immediately. Additionally, we request that DoD IG investigate to determine whether personnel within the Army properly followed procedures to timely report allegations of sexual misconduct to law enforcement and whether other SAPR procedures and existing protections were followed or not,” the lawmakers concluded.

Members and Senators expressed their outrage at the Army’s blatant failure:

“The rise in physician sexual misconduct across the country has now permeated the U.S. military, leaving women servicemembers and the wives of servicemembers vulnerable,” said DWC member Lori Trahan (MA-03). “The allegations against Dr. McGraw are horrific, and the Army’s delayed response is unacceptable. These women deserve to know that when they report abuse, they will be protected, believed, and taken seriously. We’re demanding answers because accountability cannot wait and the safety of those who serve our nation and their families cannot be compromised.”

“What happened at Fort Hood and Tripler Army Medical Center is a profound betrayal of the women who trust the military with their care. For years, Dr. Blaine McGraw preyed on patients while leadership ignored warnings and allowed the abuse to continue.  Survivors also begged for help and were met with silence, skepticism, or dismissal.  That is not just a moral failure but a procedural one.  No woman serving our country should ever fear being violated by those responsible for her safety. Our letter demands accountability and the reforms needed to make sure this never happens again,” said DWC Servicewomen, Women Veterans and Military Task Force Chair Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06).

“Reports of the Army’s failure to respond to sexual misconduct allegations and the many pleas raised by military women are appalling. The allegations in this case point to a deeply troubling breakdown in accountability and oversight. Sexual misconduct must never be tolerated, regardless of rank or position. Military servicewomen are essential to our armed forces, and they deserve to be heard, protected, and taken seriously. I am proud to co-lead this letter to demand answers, prevent future misconduct, and bring accountability and transparency for survivors who have been ignored for far too long,” said DWC member Sylvia Garcia (TX-39).

“No woman should feel unsafe receiving medical care, especially during sensitive and private health services. Yet, far too many survivors have come forward with their experiences of exploitation and alleged abuse by a doctor who reportedly violated not just the basic principles of medical care and human decency, but also the expected conduct of a U.S. Army officer and physician,” said Senator Mazie Hirono (HI). “The Department of Defense and U.S. Army must take accountability for its failure to rapidly respond to servicemembers and patient complaints. While nothing can reverse the harm reported by patients, a comprehensive investigation into this alleged misconduct, resulting in stronger protections for patients, is necessary to ensure that no one experiences abuse by our military health system again.”

In addition to letter leads Lori Trahan, Mazie Hirono, Chrissy Houlahan, Jill Tokuda, Nanette Barragán, Veronica Escobar, and Sylvia Garcia, the letter was signed by Angela D. Alsobrooks, Joyce Beatty, Julia Brownley, Nikki Budzinski, André Carson, Judy Chu, Maxine Dexter, Debbie Dingell, Sarah Elfreth, Lizzie Fletcher, Valerie Foushee, Lois Frankel, Laura Friedman, Robert Garcia, Kirsten Gillibrand, Adelita Grijalva, Val Hoyle, Jonathan Jackson, Sara Jacobs, Pramila Jayapal, Julie Johnson, Timothy Kennedy, Teresa Leger Fernandez, Lucy McBath, Sarah McBride, Betty McCollum, James McGovern, LaMonica McIver, Gwen Moore, Kelly Morrison, Seth Moulton, Eleanor Norton, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi, Nellie Pou, Delia Ramirez, Emily Randall, Deborah Ross, Andrea Salinas, Janice Schakowsky, Jeanne Shaheen, Lateefah Simon, Melanie Stansbury, Rashida Tlaib, Norma Torres, Chris Van Hollen, Elizabeth Warren, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Nikema Williams, Frederica Wilson, and Ron Wyden.

In October, Trahan introduced the Protect Patients from Healthcare Abuse Act, legislation that establishes clear, nationwide standards to protect patients during sensitive medical examinations and procedures. The bill follows outreach from survivors of similar physician sexual misconduct, including recent allegations involving Massachusetts doctor Derrick Todd Oregon physician David Farley.

Guthrie Renews Effort to Increase Transparency for Students Seeking Higher Education

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Brett Guthrie (2nd District Kentucky)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) introduced the bipartisan Student Financial Clarity Act, alongside Congressman Bob Onder (MO-03) and Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03), to increase price transparency for American students as they navigate higher education opportunities. This legislation would create a Universal Net Price Calculator and bolster the College Scorecard to provide additional information about specific programs of study.

“Today, America’s young people face the daunting task of navigating an increasingly complex higher education landscape. As a result of the skyrocketing cost of education, Americans now owe nearly $1.8 trillion in student loans,” said Congressman Guthrie. “My Student Financial Clarity Act would allow students to easily access information about the costs and outcomes at institutions and individual programs so they can evaluate the program that is best suited for their academic interests and financial means. This bill will bring much-needed clarity for the American student.”

“Too many college degree programs overpromise and underdeliver. In a time of declining trust in postsecondary education, now more than ever students deserve transparency so they know whether a program is worth the investment of their time and money. This bill is another strong step toward promoting sensible borrowing, driving down costs, and ending the hidden expenses that mire borrowers in student loan debt,” said Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI).

“I am proud to join Congressman Guthrie in leading the Student Financial Clarity Act. With the cost of higher education continuing to rise, it is crucial that we help students thrive by creating transparency around institutions, programs, and costs. This is exactly what the Student Financial Clarity Act will accomplish. By creating an accurate Universal Net Price Calculator, this bill will empower students to compare universities and programs to help identify the best option not only for their educational future but also for their financial future,” said Congressman Bob Onder.

“Families deserve clear, accessible information when making one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “The Student Financial Clarity Act builds on years of work to strengthen Net Price Calculators and expands those reforms through a modernized College Scorecard with transparency on costs, aid, and student outcomes broken down by institution and program. This bill delivers on the simple idea that every student should know what they are paying for and what they can expect in return. I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation to help students and parents navigate the path to higher education with confidence.”

Background:
The Student Financial Clarity Act builds upon Guthrie’s Net Price Calculator Improvement Act, which he introduced in the last three sessions of Congress to establish a Universal Net Price Calculator.

Since 2008, Congress has required institutions of higher education to provide Net Price Calculator tools on their websites as a part of the Higher Education Opportunity Act. However, this tool has been implemented inconsistently, resulting in students experiencing difficulty in accessing important information when making the most crucial decisions of their academic careers.

If enacted, the Student Financial Clarity Act would:

  • Create a Universal Net Price Calculator, which would allow students to answer a set of financial and academic questions to receive personalized cost estimates for institutions and programs of study.
  • Provide a central location for students to compare costs at one or more schools and programs of study, specific to their financial situation.
  • Expand the College Scorecard to require additional information on program-level statistics, allowing students to compare student costs, outcomes, and financial aid at institutions and specific programs of study.

This legislation is expected to be marked up by the House Committee on Education and Workforce on December 11, 2025. You can watch the Committee Mark Up here.

Speaker Johnson and Israeli Speaker Amir Ohana Officially Launch Effort to Coordinate with Legislative Leaders Around the World to Nominate President Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04)

WASHINGTON — Speaker Mike Johnson and Speaker of the Israeli Knesset Amir Ohana today officially launched their effort to rally Speakers and Presidents of Parliaments around the world to join them in nominating President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026 following President Trump’s work to secure the return of all living hostages, establish lasting security for Israel, and deliver the framework for peace in the Middle East.

Speaker Ohana announced this effort during an address to the Israeli Knesset in October, and Speaker Johnson announced the effort at a press conference in the U.S. Capitol the following day. Today, Johnson and Ohana signed a formal letter launching the effort, which will be circulated to parliamentary leaders around the world for their signatures. Read the full letter here.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson released the following statement:

“In restoring the American tradition of peace through strength, President Trump has made history by ending conflicts and encouraging order around the globe. While the world has aspired to peace in the Middle East for generations, President Trump has now created that path and forced the release of the last of the living hostages who endured two long years in Hamas captivity. From Africa to the Far East to former Soviet bloc states, his leadership has brought peace that will save and improve the lives of countless millions of people.

“I am proud to announce that my friend, Speaker Ohana, and I are working together to rally Speakers and Presidents of parliaments around the world to join us in nominating President Trump for next year’s Nobel Peace Prize. No one has ever deserved that honor more.”

Speaker of the Israeli Knesset Amir Ohana released the following statement:

“I would like to thank the Speaker of the House, my friend Mike Johnson, for the warm welcome and for his true partnership in a cause that is just, moral, and as right as any can be — one that demonstrates the strength of the bond between the United States and Israel. There is not a single person in the world who has done more for peace over the past year than President Trump, and no one more deserving of recognition for the efforts and the results that have saved the lives of so many people around the world, including in Israel. The “peace through strength” policy is the one and only way to ensure true and lasting peace. I therefore call on our colleagues – Heads of Parliaments from across the globe – to join us by signing on to the nomination of President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize”

Carter defends Christians against corrupt Ethiopian government in new resolution

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Earl L Buddy Carter (GA-01)

Headline: Carter defends Christians against corrupt Ethiopian government in new resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today introduced a resolution condemning the Ethiopian government for its many human rights violations, including the persecution of Christians, and urging the Secretary of State to use all available diplomatic tools to protect innocent civilians against their abusive, corrupt government.

The resolution condemns Ethiopia for “actions that threaten regional stability, violate fundamental human rights, and undermine the strategic interests of the United States in the Horn of Africa,” citing “acts of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide,” and the targeting by “violence, intimidation, and persecution” of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and other religious institutions.

“Practicing your Christian faith is not a crime. Terrorists are running Ethiopia into the ground, and with it the lives of countless innocent people, particularly religious minorities. From intimidation to famine and genocide, the Ethiopian government has given the United States no option but to limit their power by using every tool available to hold them accountable for these, and many other, abuses,” said Rep. Carter.

The resolution has support from the Amhara Association in Georgia and the American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee.

“For the past five years, as documented by human rights organizations, the Ethiopian Human Rights Council, multiple international media outlets, the United Nations, and the U.S. Department of State’s 2025 human rights reports, countless innocent civilians—women, children, and the elderly among them—have endured brutal acts of violence, including rape used as a weapon of war, arbitrary detention, torture, and mass displacement. Churches have been burned, religious leaders assassinated, and entire villages destroyed when the community rejected itsethnically driven ideology,” said the Amhara Association in Georgia. “[Rep. Carter’s] resolution to invoke all appropriate internationally available tools, including the Global Magnitsky Act, is both timely and essential. Holding perpetrators accountable through targeted sanctions—such as travel bans, asset freezes, and diplomatic isolation—will send a powerful message that the United States will not tolerate crimes against humanity, sexual violence, or religious persecution committed with impunity.”

“The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) strongly supports Congressman Earl L. “Buddy” Carter’s resolution calling for targeted sanctions against Ethiopian officials responsible for widespread atrocities, sexual violence, and religious persecution. The measure—anchored in the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act—responds to mounting evidence, including recent BBC and U.S. State Department findings, documenting mass rapes, extrajudicial killings, and attacks on places of worship across Ethiopia’s Amhara region. AEPAC commends Congressman Carter’s moral clarity and leadership in standing with the Ethiopian people and urges swift bipartisan action to ensure that perpetrators of these crimes face justice and that the United States continues to champion human rights, religious freedom, and accountability in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa,” said the American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee.
