“My father and uncles were World War II veterans, my brother served in Vietnam, and I am very appreciative of the sacrifices made to protect this great country and its citizens,” said Rep. Foxx. “The entire nation owes our military personnel and veterans a huge debt of gratitude and ensuring that debt is properly repaid is one of my top priorities in Congress.”

Congresswoman Dina Titus Introduces Legislation to Ban High-Capacity Magazines

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Dina Titus (1st District of Nevada)

Congresswoman Dina Titus introduced legislation today with Representatives DeGette and Schneider to ban the sale or possession of high-capacity magazines that have been used in deadly mass shootings around the nation.

“We in Las Vegas know all too well what happens when a mass shooter is armed with a weapon equipped with a high-capacity magazine,” Congresswoman Titus said, referring to the 2017 Harvest Festival shooting that claimed the lives of 60 people. “As a gun owner myself, I know these are not for sport or hunting, they are killing machines. The Keep Americans Safe Act would protect families, law enforcement, and community members from this deadly form of gun violence.”

The Keep Americans Safe Act would ban the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of high-capacity gun magazines that hold more than fifteen rounds. Besides the Harvest Festival, these magazines have been used in multiple mass shootings over the last few years.

“Nevadans and all Americans deserve to be free from the scourge of mass shootings plaguing our country,” Congresswoman Titus said. “I pledge to continue working with my colleagues in Congress to pass commonsense legislation that will keep them safe.”

Background

The Keep Americans Safe Act will not affect magazines or devices that are legally owned at the time of enactment. Additionally, the bill will not apply to military or law enforcement officers who use them in their official capacity.

Congresswoman Titus was an original cosponsor of the Keep Americans Safe Act in 2021 and 2023. She also has introduced legislation to ban bump stocks, which make semi-automatic rifles fire more rapidly and also have been used in mass shootings.

Congresswoman Dina Titus Statement on Presidential Address to Congress

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Dina Titus (1st District of Nevada)

Congresswoman Dina Titus released the following statement on President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress:

“President Trump wants us to believe our lives are getting better under his new Administration, but we are not fooled. Nevadans are already feeling the pain of higher prices because of Trump’s disastrous policies. One estimate says prices will rise by $1,250 per family as Trump’s tariffs spark a trade war and choke off the supply chain. Gas prices, for example, are set to rise because of the tariffs on Canadian oil, and housing prices will skyrocket as construction materials get more expensive. Meanwhile as we impose tariffs on our neighbors, Trump is directing the Treasury Department to ease sanctions on Russia. This Administration is making us less secure while making everything more expensive.

“Nevadans are paying higher prices and seeing the loss of services because of Trump’s cuts to the federal workforce, including those who provide critical services like protecting Lake Mead, caring for our veterans, and making sure Social Security checks go out on time.

“This is just the beginning. Thousands of Nevadans will lose their health care coverage because of massive cuts to Medicaid. Seniors living in nursing homes will not be able to pay for their care. Children relying on food assistance will go hungry. Students will go to schools with fewer teachers. Immigrants will live in fear of mass deportations.

“In just 43 days, Donald Trump has made one thing clear. He doesn’t care. Trump doesn’t care about the vital services Nevadans rely on; he doesn’t care about our national security; he doesn’t care about grocery prices; he doesn’t care about the Constitution; and he doesn’t care about protecting marginalized communities. He does care about making more money, punishing those who disagree with him, rewarding his friends like Elon Musk, and cozying up to Putin. Rest assured, I will continue to speak out against this Administration’s dereliction of duty and stop its gutting of the federal resources my constituents count on.”

Congresswoman Dina Titus Statement on Passage of the Continuing Resolution

Congresswoman Dina Titus released the following statement on the House’s passage of a Continuing Resolution:

“I opposed the House Republicans’ funding bill today because it is yet another blow to Nevada families, seniors, and veterans, on top of the draconian cuts to services already made by the Trump Administration. This bill gives Elon Musk carte blanche to continue to steal from the middle class to pay for tax breaks for himself and his billionaire buddies. The Republicans’ proposal cuts rent subsidies and homelessness response grants by $700 million, does not meet the needs of veterans exposed to harmful toxins, and slashes critical funding for disease research. The bill even goes as far as defunding a Defense Department account that prevents terrorists from obtaining nuclear weapons.

“Republicans have also removed $13.1 million in funding for Community Projects in Clark County, including: $7.9 million for projects to assist seniors in need, improve road safety, and enhance emergency response capabilities; $3.4 million for Boulder City to combat the impacts of drought and to save enough water to supply an additional 4,000 homes; and $1.7 million for the City of Henderson to improve resources for crime victims and their families.

“The Republicans’ funding bill makes Nevadans less safe, less healthy, and less prosperous while giving Donald Trump and Elon Musk latitude to continue gutting critical services.

Rep. Dina Titus Asks House Leadership to Increase Air Traffic Controller Funding

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Dina Titus (1st District of Nevada)

Congresswoman Dina Titus today sent a letter to House leadership urging them to include funding in Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations to hire and train air traffic controllers to address current shortages.

“On January 29, 2025, American Airlines Flight 5342 from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) collided with a UH-60 Army helicopter while on final approach to DCA, resulting in both aircraft crashing into the Potomac River. The collision resulted in the tragic loss of 67 lives. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the collision. As the NTSB continues its thorough investigation, the recent tragic crash demonstrates the need to constantly seek improvement in the aviation system. One broad long-standing aviation safety issue that warrants immediate Congressional attention is the air traffic controller shortage,” Congresswoman Titus said in the letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The congresswoman noted that a 2023 study showed that only 70 percent of the nation’s air traffic control towers were fully staffed. “Understaffed air traffic facilities and a strained workforce can lead to significant safety issues for passengers and flight crews,” she said. “This is particularly concerning given that separate analysis from the Collaborative Resource Working Group (CRWG) has found that FAA’s finance-driven model consistently underestimates the number of fully certified air traffic controllers needed.”

On February 27, 2025, U.S. Transportation Secretary Duffy announced a plan to supercharge the hiring of air traffic controllers. The Department of Transportation has committed to increasing the salaries for air traffic controller trainees and streamlining the hiring process. While the details of that plan have yet to be seen, federal funding is urgently needed in Fiscal Year 2025 to help the FAA fill current gaps in the air traffic controller workforce.

Congresswoman Titus asked House leadership to include $43 million in funding for the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) appropriations bill to address the air traffic controller shortage. “With this critical funding, the FAA can hire and train 2,000 new air traffic controllers annually which will help fill current gaps that pose a threat to aviation safety across the United States,” the congresswoman wrote.

Background

Congresswoman Titus led provisions in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 which was signed into law on May 16, 2024, to help address the air traffic controller shortages. Section 437 of the bill directs the FAA to hire the maximum number of individuals that the FAA Academy can train as air traffic controllers for Fiscal Years 2024 through 2028. This provision, however, is subject to Congressional appropriations.

Reps. Titus and Reschenthaler Reintroduce Bill to Update Slot Reporting Threshold

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Dina Titus (1st District of Nevada)

Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV) and Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), Co-Chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Gaming Caucus, today reintroduced the Shifting Limits on Thresholds (SLOT) Act to update the nearly 50-year-old reporting threshold for slot machine winnings by raising it from $1,200 to $5,000 and indexing it to inflation.

“Updating a Reagan-era gaming regulation is not just a priority for my constituents in Las Vegas, it is a commonsense fix that affects the growth of legal gaming in local and Tribal communities across the country,” Rep. Titus. said “Shutting down slot machines for low-dollar amounts pushes people toward the illegal market, and flooding the IRS with automated, outdated forms helps no one. This legislation will ease the paperwork burden on businesses and players while ensuring our tax code reflects economic reality.”

While slot jackpots have increased over the years to reflect inflation, the reporting threshold has not increased since 1977. Currently, every time the threshold is hit, the slot machine must be temporarily taken out of service. By creating unnecessary roadblocks in the legal gaming experience, legitimate customers are incentivized to switch to the illegal market, meaning less tax revenue and more violations of the law.

“The 1977 slot jackpot reporting threshold hurts both Pennsylvania’s gaming industry and its patrons,” Rep. Reschenthaler said. “Because the threshold has not kept up with inflation, it has resulted in a drastic increase in reportable jackpots, which trigger tax burdens for winners and compliance burdens for casinos. Increasing the threshold will eliminate this onerous red tape, ensuring the gaming industry can continue to support good-paying jobs and foster economic growth in southwestern Pennsylvania and across the country.”

Background

The SLOT Act would increase the tax reporting threshold for slot jackpots to $5,000 and provide a mechanism for future increases based on inflation. This ease operational and paperwork burdens on casinos and their patrons and enable the IRS to focus on filers most likely to have net slot winnings and owe taxes at the end of the year. The $1,200 threshold has led to a deluge of W-2G forms being submitted to the IRS when most consumers will not even owe any taxes by the end of the year. In 2023, the IRS’s own advisory council recommended that the agency increase the threshold to $5,000 and index it to inflation.

The original co-sponsors of the legislation are Mike Kelly (R-PA), Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Jack Bergman (R-MI), Hank Johnson (D-GA), Mike Ezell (R-MI), and Lou Correa (D-CA).

Amodei Reintroduces the PROTECT Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02)

Washington, D.C. – Representatives Mark Amodei (NV-02) and Susie Lee (NV-03) reintroduced H.R. 1400, the Presumption for Radiation or Toxin Exposure Coverage for Troops Act (PROTECT Act).

This legislation would ensure comprehensive medical care to veterans exposed to radiation and other toxins at the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) by establishing a presumption of exposure to radiation and toxins at NTTR between the years of 1972 and 2005.

“Veterans, who made such selfless sacrifices for our nation, should not have to move mountains to prove they are suffering as a result of their service,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “Yet, hundreds of veterans who were stationed at the NTTR during that time frame have been denied the benefits they rightfully earned because exposure to toxic chemicals is microscopic, often referred to as the invisible enemy. I will continue to amplify the indisputable access to care our veterans deserve throughout their post-service lives.”

“Our men and women in uniform make countless sacrifices to keep our nation safe, so it’s our duty to ensure that we take care of them and protect them from invisible enemies like toxic radiation exposure,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “I helped pass the bipartisan PACT Act to do just that, and I’m continuing that work to get these veterans the long overdue care they deserve. This legislation will help save lives and bring justice to thousands of veterans who proudly served in Nevada.”

I am very excited to see this next step in The Invisible Enemy’s fight to bring the benefits to an amazing group of veterans and DoD employees and contractors,” said Dave Crete, Chairman of The Invisible Enemy Non-profit. “We are grateful for Congressman Amodei’s willingness to be our champion in Congress to right a wrong that has been ignored far too long.”

Amodei Reintroduces Resolution to Reaffirm United States-Canada Alliance

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02)

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei issued the following statement following his reintroduction of H. Res. 152, reaffirming the deep and steadfast United States-Canada partnership and the ties that bind the two countries in support of economic and national security:

“In a world increasingly marked by global tensions and uncertainty, it is invaluable to have strong and dependable friends in every corner of the globe, especially along our border,” said Congressman Mark Amodei. “Nevada’s 2nd congressional district exports more than $1.4 billion in goods and $75 million in services to Canada annually, bolstering our supply chains and enhancing our competitive edge. We are united by our shared interests in securing our borders, delivering economic prosperity, and preserving democratic values. As the co-chair of the bipartisan American-Canadian Economy and Security Caucus (ACES), I’m proud to have reintroduced this resolution to reinforce our mutually beneficial commitment to each other’s safety and success.”

“The United States has no more reliable ally or steadier friend than Canada” said the Ambassador of Canada to the United States, Kirsten Hillman. “This Resolution highlights that no two nations benefit more from each other than the U.S. and Canada. With nearly $1 trillion in goods and services crossing our shared border every year, trade with Canada plays an important role in U.S. economic security and supports millions of American jobs. We are steadfast in our commitment to enhancing continental security, maintaining a secure border, supporting U.S. energy dominance, and uniting against the threat of foreign adversaries. I would like to thank ACES Co-Chairs, Representatives Mark Amodei, Lizzie Fletcher, Marc Veasey, and Buddy Carter, other co-sponsors, and all members of the ACES Caucus for their dedication to reinforcing the Canada-U.S. relationship.”

“The U.S.-Canada Alliance has long been one of America’s most important friendships. The ties between our nations are deep, with over 8,600 Canadian companies doing business in the Dallas-Fort Worth area alone” said Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33). “This partnership is vital, contributing to a staggering $40.3 billion in goods and services trade just between DFW and Canada alone. But beyond the numbers, our collaboration in energy, security, and countless other sectors strengthens both our economies and our shared values. As a proud representative of the Dallas-Fort Worth community, I am honored to continue working toward expanding and deepening this crucial friendship with Canada. Together, we are not just neighbors, but partners in prosperity and peace.”

“For more than a century, the United States and Canada have maintained a close partnership built on a foundation of shared democratic values,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-7). “I was glad to introduce this bipartisan resolution with Congressman Amodei, Congressman Veasey, and Congressman Buddy Carter to highlight the significance of the U.S.-Canada relationship to our economy and our national security. As close trade partners and allies, I look forward to continuing to advance policies to support and strengthen this important relationship.”

Key Facts:

  • Supports expanding energy infrastructure across the U.S.-Canada border and reaffirms commitments to shared climate and environmental goals.
  • Supports defense capabilities and preparedness in times of crisis.
  • Supports continued collaboration to secure borders, strengthen supply chains, and promote global security.

Amodei Votes in Favor of Full-Year Continuing Resolution

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02)

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mark Amodei released the following statement in response to voting in favor of the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025, a clean continuing resolution to extend government funding through September 30, 2025.

“A fundamental duty of Congress is to ensure the federal government remains open and operational,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “Further, taking this step allows us to deliver on our commitment to strengthening our nation’s security and continue support for the men and women in uniform who dedicate their careers to doing so. In our current landscape, a clean, long-term continuing resolution is necessary to preserve the continuity of critical services and programs while avoiding unnecessary increases in taxpayer spending. While it’s not the ideal solution, this legislation, free of hidden agendas, allows Congress to focus on working with the President in implementing his agenda and restoring fiscal discipline to our nation. It’s time to move forward and show that the federal government can function efficiently, effectively, and in service of the public’s best interests.

“Moving forward, the Appropriations Committee will continue to do our work at breakneck pace as we expect funding deliberations to begin in short order on Fiscal Year 2026, while concurrently considering Reconciliation in the next 120 days. This mechanism will allow for robust investment in our nation’s border security and defense, while extending the tax cuts for middle class America first enacted by Congress under President Trump in 2017.

“As Chair of the Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, I anticipate the nation’s fifth largest department budget to grow substantially in an effort to deliver on our mandate to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Rest assured, I will take the responsibility of managing this increase in homeland resources seriously.

“It will be a busy spring, no doubt, and we are ready to continue the important work we were sent here to do.”

Amodei Statement on House Budget Resolution

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02)

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mark Amodei issued the following statement after voting in favor of H. Con. Res. 14, a budget resolution which lays the groundwork for the Budget Committee to pass one bill that delivers on the President’s full agenda.

“The biggest threat standing in the way of American prosperity is ourselves. Our national debt has surpassed $36 trillion, an unsustainable path that is sabotaging the future of our nation for generations to come,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “A huge contributor to that debt was the result of the last administration’s spending spree of taxpayer dollars to implement an agenda that failed to serve the American people.

“The House passed a comprehensive blueprint that prioritizes identifying areas to invest and areas to save. The blueprint outlines that we will invest in our safety and independence by prioritizing border security, national defense, and domestic energy production. It also outlines that we will identify any opportunities for savings, and the obvious first step is rooting out any abuses of taxpayer dollars in the federal government and rolling back burdensome Biden-era policies.

“While some have used their time distorting the truth about this resolution, Republicans have prioritized designing the playbook to put our country back on track.

“This resolution lays the groundwork for putting more money in the pockets of everyday Americans by establishing a responsible, common-sense financial plan. It is an opportunity for us to restore our dominance on the world stage, make the federal government more efficient for all Americans, and ensure the long-term stability of our democracy.”
