Gosar Secures Reauthorization and Expansion of RECA for Mohave County, Arizona, Votes in Favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Paul A Gosar DDS (AZ-04)

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09), issued the following statement after voting in favor of passage of H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act

“I am very pleased to have once again voted in favor of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, legislation that provides historic tax relief to middle-class Americans, reigns in wasteful spending, restores fiscal sanity and slashes the deficit by more than $2 trillion by enacting policies that will fuel America’s economic growth.

Importantly, the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers for all Arizonans.

First and foremost, I am especially pleased that the One Big Beautiful Bill includes my legislation reauthorizing the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) and corrects an administrative oversight in the RECA Act of 1990 that arbitrarily excluded areas of Mohave County, Arizona.  Atomic weapons testing conducted during the Cold War came with a heavy cost to Americans living in Arizona, Nevada and within tribal communities.  Since first being elected to Congress, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that RECA not only be reauthorized but also expanded so that every person, known as a “downwinder,” who developed cancer or other related illnesses after being exposed to radiation from atomic weapons testing at the Nevada Test Site deserves to be compensated for being poisoned by a negligent federal government.

Second, the One Big Beautiful Bill includes my legislation boosting solar and wind power on publiclands to help lower energy prices, unlock energy production and meet our nation’s growing energy demand.  It also ensures revenue from their development is shared with the states and counties while also supporting conservation programs where these projects are located.

Third, a typical Arizona family with two children will see their take-home pay increase between $7,500 and $12,800.  Without this legislation, families across my district were on track to face a massive tax hike on December 31, 2025. The bill also eliminates taxes on tips and overtime and slashes taxes on Social Security for seniors.  The bill also raises the child tax credit, increases childcare tax credits and establishes $1,000 savings accounts for newborn babies to support growth and advancement while helping ease the burden on families.

Next, the bill provides historic investments to strengthen our nation’s border security by fully funding President Trump’s border wall and giving Border Patrol and ICE agents the resources, technology, and personnel they need to swiftly detain and deport the millions of illegal aliens welcomed into our country by Joe Biden.  As a border state, Arizonans have felt firsthand the destruction caused by Biden’s open border policies. Crime has ravaged our neighborhoods, deadly drugs, including fentanyl, have ruined our families, and our communities are withering under the economic strain on public resources needed to combat Biden’s border invasion.

The One Big Beautiful Bill delivers for Arizonans, upholds the promise to secure the border, locks in permanent tax relief, unleashes American energy and reverses course on out-of-control spending by securing the largest spending reductions in American history. These are transformational policies that support all Americans for generations and were delivered by a Republican majority in Congress that listened.  I look forward to President Trump signing the One Big Beautiful Bill into law,” concluded Congressman Paul Gosar.

Congresswoman Barragán’s Statement on House Republicans Voting to Defund Public Broadcasting

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (CA-44) released the following statement:

“House Republicans voted to defund public broadcasting — and Southern California families will feel the impact. They’re taking back $4.3 million from PBS SoCal, which provides trusted educational programming, like Sesame Street, and free learning materials from over 1 million children under the age of 5 in our region.

It also eliminates funding for stations like KCRW in Santa Monica and KUSC in Los Angeles, jeopardizing access to local news, cultural programming, and emergency alerts that keep our communities safe and informed.

I voted AGAINST this power grab that takes away money Congress has already allocated. This isn’t about saving money — it’s about silencing voices and access to programming that thin-skinned Donald Trump and his Rubber Stamp Republicans don’t like. That’s about as un-American as you can get.”

From Selma to Central Ohio: Beatty Reflects on John Lewis and the Ongoing Fight for the Vote

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (3rd District of Ohio)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) joined members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) in a Special Order Hour on the House floor to honor the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis on the fifth anniversary of his passing this upcoming Thursday.

In her remarks, Congresswoman Beatty reflected on her close working relationship with Congressman Lewis during their time together in the U.S. House of Representatives. She recalled the profound honor of crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge with him to commemorate Bloody Sunday and traveling with him throughout Central Ohio to defend and promote the Voting Rights Act.

The Congresswoman also renewed her call for Congress to protect and expand access to the ballot by passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act.

“After the Supreme Court’s Shelby County v. Holder decision, we saw nearly 100 new laws emerge—closing polling places, cutting early voting, banning drop boxes, and changing ID rules. These efforts have fueled a growing racial turnout gap, and Black voters are left paying the price. That isn’t policy—it’s persecution,” said Congresswoman Beatty.

“As John Lewis knew, Black voices are feared and fought precisely because they hold the power to transform this nation for the better. On this day, we honor his legacy not only with words, but with action—by advocating for voting rights as a guiding force for our shared future. That means passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act to end these discriminatory practices and make it easier for everyone to vote.”

In her floor speech, Beatty concluded:
“John Lewis didn’t just talk about democracy—he lived it. He led with conviction and clarity, and his legacy demands that we act to protect the freedom he marched, bled, and fought for.”

Congresswoman Beatty Joins Bicameral Letter Opposing Cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (3rd District of Ohio)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty joined a letter led by Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) and 45 Members of Congress to President Trump urging him to reconsider his decision to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The CPB supports America’s children with educational programming and ensures that emergency broadcasting keeps Americans safe amid natural disasters and emergencies. The proposed rescission to the CPB will force small stations around the country to close, leaving significant gaps in coverage for Americans who rely on these vital services for noncommercial, high-quality, localized content and telecommunications.

The letter comes amid Congressional Republicans’ attempt to pass President Trump’s proposal to rescind $10 billion in federal funding that Congress approved four months ago on a bipartisan basis. Despite bipartisan opposition to the bill, the U.S. Senate voted to move forward to debating and amending the legislation on Wednesday by the slimmest possible margin following a tie-breaking vote cast by Vice President JD Vance.

“We write to express our deep concern regarding the $1.1 billion claw back of funds to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) included in the proposed recissions you sent to Congress on May 28, 2025,” said the lawmakers in their letter to the White House. “The package was passed through the House of Representatives on June 12, over the objections of all Democratic and four Republican Members. The cuts to CPB in the recission package undermine the public media that Americans rely on for unfettered access to information, educational programming for kids, cultural programming, and nationwide emergency alerting.

“Public media has received bipartisan support for the past 50 years because Congress has continuously recognized that access to public media is in the public’s best interest. The Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS) is the backbone of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Amber Alerts and plays a critical role in keeping Americans informed and safe during emergencies. As key local news providers, public radio stations leverage their reporting resources to offer live news and information on disasters and other emergencies, providing real-time information on where local audiences can access resources and safe locations.

“Of the $1.1 billion included in the rescission proposal, 70% of these funds will be pulled out of local stations that are independently owned and operated in our communities. For many smaller stations in rural communities across the country, these cuts will prove utterly devastating, because they provide local, state, and regional news that is no longer provided through other outlets. These small stations will not survive, resulting in news deserts for these communities and putting thousands of American lives at risk.

“We ask your administration to withdraw this rescission proposal and protect the vital services that CPB provides. If the rescissions go ahead as planned, we will be requesting a report to Congress as to how your administration plans to fill the void left behind, particularly in the areas of emergency alerting and local news reporting.”

The letter is co-signed by Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.)and 45 Democratic Representatives: Representatives Joyce Beatty (D-OH), Ami Bera (D-CA), Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), Brendan Boyle (D-PA), Julia Brownley (D-CA), Shontel Brown (D-OH), André Carson (D-IN), Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Danny Davis (D-IL), Diana DeGette (D-CO), Dwight Evans (D-PA), Laura Friedman (D-CA), John Garamendi (D-CA), Jared Huffman (D-CA), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), William Keating (D-MA), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Stephen Lynch (D-MA), Seth Magaziner (D-RI), James McGovern (D-MA), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Dave Min (D-CA), Kelly Morrison (D-MN), Kevin Mullin (D-CA), Richard Neal (D-MA), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Brittany Pettersen (D-CO), Delia Ramirez (D-IL), Emily Randall (D-WA), Andrea Salinas (D-OR), Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), Adam Smith (D-WA), Greg Stanton (D-AZ), Shri Thanedar (D-MI), Mike Thompson (D-CA), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Paul Tonko (D-NY), Marc Veasey (D-TX), Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), and Nikema Williams (D-GA).

Congresswoman Beatty’s Statement on Republican Package Clawing Back Public Media & Global Assistance Funding

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (3rd District of Ohio)

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Tonight, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) issued the following statement after voting NO on the House-passed Republican rescissions package, which claws back billions in funding already approved by Congress for programs that help keep Americans safe at home and abroad.

“Just weeks after Republicans shoveled trillions in tax breaks to billionaires, their unnecessary clawback of approved funding once again shows that Trump and House Republicans will always put their wealthy donors first and everyday Americans last.

This reckless measure doesn’t make government more efficient or meaningfully reduce the deficit. It hurts Ohio families. It slashes funding for local public broadcasting, which Central Ohio families rely on for resources like PBS Kids programming, classroom resources, coverage of local news and high school sports, and emergency alerts that keep our communities safe. More than $13 million in annual federal funding supports these crucial services in Ohio alone, and losing this funding could force stations to scale back or shut down completely.

Globally, the Republican clawback guts billions from programs that provide clean water and health care to millions and basic education to tens of millions of children in developing nations. Republicans are rubber-stamping President Trump and Elon Musk’s reckless DOGE demands, undermining American leadership and security abroad.

House Democrats will keep working to meaningfully improve the lives of the American people.”

Pelosi Slams GOP Rescissions Package on House Floor: “An Absolute Shame”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi Representing the 12th District of California

Washington, D.C. – This evening, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks on the House Floor opposing the Republican rescissions bill, warning that its deep cuts to foreign aid and global health initiatives pose a grave threat to U.S. national security.

Pelosi emphasized that slashing billions in foreign aid and diplomatic funding undermines America’s ability to combat global poverty, disease and instability—tools long recognized as essential to preventing conflict and strengthening U.S. influence abroad. Drawing on bipartisan history, she highlighted how past GOP cuts opened the door for geopolitical rivals like China and Russia to fill the void left by American withdrawal.

Watch her full remarks here.

Read the transcript of Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s Floor remarks below:

Speaker Emerita Pelosi. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I thank the gentleman for yielding and for his leadership. We’re so proud of you.

Now, tonight is a dangerous night for our country. I’m not even talking about the defense bill—whether we agree or disagree on that. I’m talking about what’s happening in this rescission bill.

Don’t take it from me. Just take it from Navy Admiral William McRaven—Navy SEAL, four-star admiral—who warned that cutting the State Department and USAID will put every American at risk.

This is the quote: ‘This is no time to weaken any element of America’s power. The dismissal of highly trained diplomats at the State Department and the dismantling of USAID will jeopardize national security and make the military’s job more difficult.’

‘Our national security has never depended on military strength alone. It relies on collaboration with a strong Foreign service and diplomatic corps’—and I’m adding with our USAID.

In this bill, over $8 billion is taken away from what we do to alleviate poverty in the world, to lessen things like HIV and AIDS and other diseases which have an impact on global health—to stop funding the World Health Organization.

I give praise to President Bush when he put forth PEPFAR. We worked closely with him to fund it as appropriators. 25 million people’s lives were saved.

But we’re saying the alleviation of poverty and the eradication of disease is no longer—And you all did this in the 90s too, when you took control of the House.

And you know what you did? You opened the door for China and Russia to go into these countries and have geopolitical victories funded by our money that they made in trade against us—speaking of China—and then us walking out the door.

This is absolutely a shame. An absolute shame.

I urge everyone to vote no on it and understand what this is.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Pelosi Honors Congressman John Lewis on House Floor: "Let Freedom Ring."

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi Representing the 12th District of California

Washington, D.C. – This week, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House Floor to honor the life and legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis, marking the fifth anniversary of his passing on this day in 2020. Joined by colleagues and Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Pelosi paid tribute to Lewis’s unwavering commitment to justice, his moral clarity and his enduring call to make “good trouble.”

Pelosi reflected on her more than three decades serving alongside Lewis in the House, praising his leadership in the fight for civil rights, voting rights and the soul of America. Recalling his example of nonviolence and love, she urged Congress to carry forward his mission with both words and action.

Watch her full remarks here.

Read the transcript of Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s Floor remarks below:

Speaker Emerita Pelosi. I thank the gentlewoman from Virginia for calling us together on this anniversary week of losing John Lewis.

Any of us who served with him in this body—and I have served with him for 30 years—my brother, he challenged us each day to do our very best for the American people: by his words, by his example.

As a distinguished former chair of the Black Caucus, Congresswoman Beatty said: we marched with him in Atlanta. We marched with him in Selma again and again. We marched in Washington. We marched. We followed his lead wherever he took us to make the statement.

As a distinguished chair of the Caucus, Congresswoman Clarke mentioned earlier about the voter suppression and how John was here to fight it—going to that in a moment. But first, I want to quote John Lewis:

‘In my life I have done all I can to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way.’

‘Now it is your turn,’ he said, ‘to let freedom ring.’

Mr. Speaker, John Lewis’s lasting legacy represents both the progress of our nation and the promise of what our nation can become. He believed in a better tomorrow, in a more perfect union, in one country, one destiny. He believed in all of us.

He had a deep faith in the goodness of people, and he believed that everyone was worthy of respect.

Again, I was honored to serve with him for more than 30 years and learn from him all that time—and saw in this Congress how he taught us, through words and actions, what true moral leadership looks like.

From time to time, when he rose to speak, he reminded us of our duty to the American people: to lift up our voices and to guide them to a future where freedom and justice are not just ideals, but guarantees.

As the distinguished chair of the Caucus mentioned—and also former chair Mr. Steven Horsford mentioned, as well as Congresswoman Beatty—he was there because the right to vote was so central to our freedom.

He wrote the first 300 pages of the For the People Act, which was to end voter suppression.

We all know of his leadership as being the title of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. That is still not there.

Today, as we witness attacks on civil rights, on democracy, on diversity, even on people’s basic necessities, many Americans are looking for hope.

In these moments, let us be reminded of John’s spirit and honor him not just with words, but with deeds.

It is on us to rise to the moment—to get in good trouble For The Children.

Let freedom ring.

I yield back.

Pelosi Statement on the Reported Visit of Trump Administration Officials to Alcatraz

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi Representing the 12th District of California

Washington D.C. – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the reported visit of Attorney General Pam Bondi and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to Alcatraz announcing a plan to reopen the island’s federal penitentiary:

“With stiff competition, the planned announcement to reopen Alcatraz as a federal penitentiary is the Trump Administration’s stupidest initiative yet. It should concern us all that clearly the only intellectual resources the Administration has drawn upon for this foolish notion are decades-old fictional Hollywood movies.

“Make no mistake: this stupidity is a diversionary tactic to draw attention away from this Administration’s cruelest actions yet in their Big, Ugly Law, which takes away food from children and rips health care from millions to give tax breaks to billionaires. It remains to be seen how this Administration could possibly afford to spend billions to convert and maintain Alcatraz as a prison when they are already adding trillions of dollars to the national debt with their sinful law.

“Should reason not prevail and Republicans bring this absurdity before the Congress, Democrats will use every parliamentary and budgetary tactic available to stop the lunacy.”

Pelosi Blasts Supreme Court Decision Enabling Mass Layoffs at Education Department: "A Grave Blow to the Rule of Law."

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi Representing the 12th District of California

Washington, D.C. – Today on the House Floor, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi denounced the Supreme Court’s recent decision permitting the President to move forward with mass layoffs at the Department of Education. In her remarks, Pelosi described the ruling as a grave blow to the rule of law and a dangerous expansion of executive authority that undermines Congress’s constitutional power of the purse.

Pointing to the broader consequences of gutting education investments, Pelosi warned that these cuts serve the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the nation’s future.

Watch her full remarks here.

Read the transcript of Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s Floor remarks below:

Speaker Emerita Pelosi. Mr. Speaker, the Supreme Court’s ridiculous decision this week to allow the President to proceed with mass layoffs at the Department of Education is a grave blow to the rule of law and defies Congressional authority.

Justice Sotomayor’s dissent warns that the Court is ‘enabling the executive branch to undermine Congress’s power of the purse.’ And she is absolutely right.

Perhaps the Republicans in the House, the Senate and the White House do not understand that nothing brings more money to the U.S. Treasury than the education of the American people.

Early childhood education, K-through-12, higher education, post-grad and lifetime learning for our workers.

They’re cutting education to give tax breaks to the richest people at the expense of America’s future—the education of the American people.

The Court’s disregard for the authority of the legislative branch empowers executive overreach at the expense of accountability and democracy.

My colleagues, take pride in being a Member of the House. Support this institution and our constitutional right with the power of the purse.

I yield back.

Massachusetts Families Fear Worsening Hunger Crisis Amid Trump’s Cuts to SNAP in Big, Ugly Bill

Photos (DropBox)

EAST BOSTON – Today, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and Congressman James P. McGovern (MA-02) convened a listening session in East Boston with Project Bread, the leading statewide food security organization in Massachusetts, to highlight the devastating impacts that Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill will have on Massachusetts families who rely on federal food assistance.

“No one in Massachusetts – no child, student, parent, or senior – should go hungry.,” said Rep. Ayanna Pressley. “Trump and Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill is a shameful betrayal of our shared humanity and will make communities in the Massachusetts 7th and across the country hungrier, poorer, and sicker. SNAP is a lifeline, especially for families facing other insecurities, and for Black, brown, and LGBTQ+ households that face the highest rates of food insecurity. Listening to families directly impacted by this crisis is essential as we chart a path forward, and I’m grateful to fight alongside Rep. McGovern, Project Bread, state and local leaders, and critical food assistance, nutrition, and farming advocates to ensure food justice for all.”

“Federal nutrition assistance programs put food on the table for families across Massachusetts. Today, we heard directly from some of those families about how the Trump’s Big Ugly Bill and DOGE cuts will make families more hungry and less healthy. Forty-two million people – the vast majority of which are working people, kids, seniors, and people with disabilities – will see their SNAP benefits cut and families with teenagers, older adults, veterans, former foster youth, and homeless people could lose their benefits altogether,” said Rep. James P. McGovern, Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee and a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee. “Kids will have less nutritious food at school and families utilizing food pantries will have less access to fruits and vegetables. I can’t think of anything more cruel than taking food away from hungry families all to fund tax breaks for billionaires.”

“Project Bread hears from over 25,000 families every year just how critical food assistance programs are. People experiencing hunger share how they are working hard to provide for their families, navigating work challenges, health crises, family concerns, and much more, and it is important that we listen and uplift the real stories of food insecurity in Massachusetts,” said Erin McAleer, President and CEO of Project Bread. “We invest in building connections with those directly experiencing hunger because that lived expertise is central to how we develop and implement sustainable community solutions. Hunger is a policy choice. In Massachusetts, we are lucky to have powerful congressional and community leaders ready to listen, learn, and lead in the fight to ensure everyone can put food on the table.”

Congresswoman Pressley, Congressman McGovern, and Project Bread discussed the stories of people with lived experience in the Massachusetts 7th, as well as partners and advocates, including Ricardo Henry, Community Leader of Neighborhood Food Action Collaborative; Sandra Nijjar, Founder of East Boston Community Soup Kitchen; Carlos Morales, Food Access Manager of La Colaborativa; Michelle Doyle, Meals Program Director of Prospect Hill Academy Charter School; Alexandra Mello, Project Bread Council of Experts; Janin Otero, Project Bread Council of Experts, and others. Also joining them were state and local officials, including State Representative Adrian Madaro, State Senator Lydia Edwards, State Senator Sal DiDomenico, Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata; Jeffrey McCue, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance; Julianne Stelmaszyk, Director of the Division of Food Security at the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources; Allison Bovell-Ammon, Assistant Undersecretary for Children and Family Services at the MA Executive Office of Health and Human Services; and Aliza Wasserman, Director of the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Food Justice.

Photo from the listening session are available here.

Throughout her time in Congress, Rep. Pressley has been a champion for food security and justice and ensuring families have the essential food assistance they deserve. She has been an outspoken critic of the Big, Ugly Bill since its inception and Republicans’ harmful cuts to SNAP and other government service programs.

  • Rep. Pressley joined colleagues at a press conference imploring the House to reject the cruel and harmful legislation.
  • Rep. Pressley joined the Congressional Black Caucus and over 100 colleagues in stalling a vote on the Big, Ugly Bill.
  • Rep. Pressley issued a statement condemning the Senate’s passage of the Big, Ugly Bill and vowing to continue fighting it using every tool available.
  • Rep. Pressley rallied with advocates from Caring Across Generations, Care Can’t Wait, and partner organizations to protest Trump’s and Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill that proposes disastrous cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs and would leave communities sicker, poorer, and more vulnerable.
  • Ahead of the House’s vote on the bill, Rep. Pressley delivered an impassioned speech on the House floor in which she made a direct appeal to her Republican colleagues to oppose this cruel and harmful bill.
  • Rep. Pressley delivered a floor speech in which she slammed the bill’s proposed Medicaid cuts, which would decimate reproductive healthcare in America and worsen maternal health outcomes.
  • Rep. Pressley co-hosted a press conference with Color of Change to oppose the Republicans’ cruel and harmful budget reconciliation package, which would gut critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP.
  • In the House Oversight Committee’s markup of the Republican reconciliation bill, Rep. Pressley demanded Republicans answer to the families who would go hungry by way of this reconciliation bill – and she was met with silence.
  • In an impassioned speech on the House floor, Rep. Pressley slammed Republicans’ cruel and callous budget resolution that would slash Medicaid, SNAP, and other critical government services to pay for trillions of dollars in tax giveaways for Donald Trump’s billionaire donors.
