Scalise Secures Additional $47 Million in GOMESA Funds for FY25

JEFFERSON, LA. — Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the Department of the Interior announced a record-breaking energy revenue disbursement to the Gulf states, with more than $200 million going to Louisiana, thanks to language Leader Scalise secured in the Working Families Tax Cut:“Louisiana is delivering on President Trump’s commitment to producing more American energy. Now, in just the first year of the Working Families Tax Cut becoming law, Louisiana will receive over $200 million in offshore revenue sharing dollars – $47 million more than in previous years – thanks to language I secured in the law to raise the annual revenue sharing cap from $500 to $650 million. Importantly, Louisiana dedicates these millions of new dollars from offshore energy exploration and production directly to coastal restoration and hurricane protection efforts, helping to protect the lives and livelihoods of those in Southeast Louisiana who work each and everyday to bring this energy to market for the benefit of families and small businesses all across America.”After reaching the revenue sharing cap for all four states, Louisiana received $156 million in revenue sharing funds each of the past three fiscal years. Background:  In July 2025, President Trump signed into law the Working Families Tax Cut, which required at least 30 lease sales in the Gulf of America over 15 years. Leader Scalise secured language in the law that increased the amount of revenue sharing dollars Louisiana receives each year from offshore drilling from the leases outlined in this plan. This provision in the law will bring hundreds of millions of new dollars to Louisiana for vital coastal restoration and hurricane protection projects. In 2006, GOMESA established a revenue-sharing model for the four energy-producing states in the Gulf of America to receive a portion of energy revenue for coastal restoration and hurricane protection.

Scalise: How Many More People Have to Die Until Democrats Vote to Fully Fund DHS?

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Steve Scalise (1st District of Louisiana)

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today on the House floor, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) called on Democrats to join with House Republicans and fully fund the Department of Homeland Security, arguing that anything less than full funding is reckless and puts American lives in danger.

Highlights from Leader Scalise’s remarks:“I rise in strong support of this important bill to fund fully the Department of Homeland Security. You know, we’ve done this time and time again, at least in the House. This will mark tonight the 4th time that the House has voted to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security… Mr. Speaker, we’ve got a job to do. Our job is to protect the American people, to do our job to keep them safe, and that’s why we created this department. Not some of the department, not just pieces of the department, but the entire Department of Homeland Security….“Some members want to get in a time machine and they want to go back to another day where maybe America didn’t have any attacks. Well, how about we go back in a time machine and listen to the Democrat leader, Hakeem Jeffries? I’ll read a quote from Hakeem Jeffries, ‘We are here today to do a single job, and that should be to fund fully the Department of Homeland Security. Anything else is an abdication of our responsibility. Anything else is an act of legislative malpractice. We’re playing political games at a time when the safety and the security of the American people is being threatened.’ That was in 2015. Hakeem Jeffries. Now, what’s happened between now and then? Well, let me tell you, Mr. Speaker, this is not your father’s Democrat Party anymore…. “Just because it happened in the Senate at three in the morning doesn’t mean nobody heard it. We did. We didn’t just hear it. We read the bill and we said no. Mr. Speaker, that is not the responsible thing to do for this country. This country is counting on us. And by the way, it’s at a time when we’re at a heightened level of threat. If you’re wondering what that heightened level is, I know there’s some people that just want to go after police all the time. Why don’t we just read a couple of the names that the other side doesn’t want to read?“Richard Williams, Mr. Speaker, 83-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran who was randomly shoved into subway tracks by an illegal alien from Honduras, just died this week… We’ve all heard of Sheridan Gorman. Maybe not enough people, Mr. Speaker, have heard of Sheridan Gorman, but we’re going to say her name again. A beautiful 18-year-old young girl from Loyola University in Chicago, a student who had the world before her, shot to death by, yes, an illegal alien from Venezuela who came over here under President Biden’s open borders… Stephanie Minter, a 41-year-old mother from Virginia, randomly stabbed to death by an illegal. Yes, with a lengthy rap sheet with more than 30 prior charges. How many more of these do we have to have before some people will say, okay, maybe we need to fund this department?…“Could you imagine if you had a terrorist outside of your house and somebody said, well, we’ll let you lock the front door, but we don’t have time to lock the back door? You’d think that was crazy… But yet [Democrats] want to defund this agency and make our country vulnerable, make Americans less safe.“I’m not going to have anything to do with that, Mr. Speaker. I want to fund the whole department. That’s what this bill does. It pays everybody, pays the TSA agents as they should be. As Democrats have voted time and time again to not pay, we pay them… These are big differences, but these are dangerous times in America. This is not the time to defund the police, to defund the Department of Homeland Security, at any level. So, Mr. Speaker, I would urge everybody to vote for this bill. Let’s do our job. We are here doing the right thing to keep America safe.”

Scalise: House Republicans Will Continue to Do Our Jobs and Vote to Fund DHS

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Steve Scalise (1st District of Louisiana)

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Fox News’ Hannity to discuss Democrats’ ‘legislative malpractice’ for refusing to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security, putting Americans’ safety at risk. Leader Scalise emphasized that House Republicans will not rest until vulnerable families, TSA workers, and the entire DHS are funded.

On the Senate partially funding DHS at a time of heightened threat:“I think there are a lot of Republican senators that are having buyer’s remorse right now, as I don’t know how many of them actually knew what was in the bill at three in the morning. But we’ve looked at it, and I’ll tell you, Lawrence, there’s a number of concerns with that bill. About [over] 10% of the department is unfunded in this bill. You know what’s unfunded in this bill that they sent us? Things like human trafficking investigations, cyber investigations. These are major components. There’s almost 7,000 ICE and CBP personnel that will be defunded in this bill, at a time, by the way, of heightened national security. We’ve had threats, terrorist threats on our homeland in just the last few weeks. We’ve had violent illegals in our country kill Americans in the last week, just in the last week. This is not a time to be defunding the Department of Homeland Security, any part of it. So we’re going to pass a bill tonight to fund the entire department, send it back over to the Senate, give them an opportunity to do the right thing. We’ve got to protect American people and our homeland while it’s under threat.”On Democrats’ push for open borders as Americans pay the price:“Look, we can only control the House, Lawrence, and we have to do the right thing for the American people. The American people want to be safe. Border security was the number one issue in 2024. People expect us, and should expect us to keep the country safe, and we will. And that’s why we’re going to pass a bill. This will mark the fourth time, Lawrence, that we’ll be passing a bill in the House that funds the department properly. Now, this one’s short-term, and I know we have differences between the House and the Senate, and surely amongst Democrats who want to just have wide-open borders. Let’s remember that Democrats still want to go back to open borders when you’re seeing illegals that are violent coming into our country killing Americans. Just in the last week, 2 Americans killed at the hands of illegals, and yet they want open borders. We’re not going to do that, Lawrence. And so, however long it takes, we’re here doing our job. If senators need to come back, then that’s the right thing to do. Because we— look, if you’ve got a terrorist outside your house, you’re not just going to lock the front door and leave the back door unlocked. You want to lock both doors and the windows.”On Hakeem Jeffries previously calling to fully fund DHS:“Well, I’ll tell you, and this is where I think people are saying, you know, can’t everybody work together? Listen to their Democrat leader, Hakeem Jeffries, from just a few years ago. He said it would be legislative malpractice not to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security. Well, what’s changed from when he said that to now? Donald Trump is president. And by the way, thank God we’ve got Donald Trump keeping our border secure and finding a way to pay TSA agents when Democrats wanted to defund and have defunded TSA agents. So you’ve got a president who is doing what the American people elected him to do, but Democrats have gone off the deep end. They have lost their way as a party just because they hate this president. Well, we’re going to still keep doing our job. We have to. We do not want another September 11th, and it seems like some people have a September 10th mentality, and we can’t let that happen.”On House Republicans not settling until DHS is properly funded:“Well, I think they’re feeling the pressure, but I think what you saw at three in the morning was people just taking the easy way out, just saying, all right, what is the deal the Democrats will vote for, and let’s just do it. Well, if the Democrats will only support something that makes our country less safe, you’ve got to keep staying and working until you get it right because the American people count on us to do the right thing, not what’s politically expedient. And so what we’re going to pass tonight is, again, it’s short-term, but at least it keeps the department open. It pays everybody, TSA, and everybody else, does not hold the American people hostage, but gives us a time to work out the serious differences that we have. And hopefully by then, some of those Democrats come to their senses, and the American people chime in and say, stop with the open border madness. Americans are dying from illegals that have come here killing Americans. Again, in the last week, we’ve seen multiple murders of Americans at the hands of violent illegals, plus terrorist attacks from people that are here on our homeland. Fully fund the Department of Homeland Security. It’s got to happen.”

Beyer Statement On Republican Leadership Extending DHS Shutdown

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Don Beyer (D-VA)

Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA) today issued the following statement after House Republican leadership blocked bipartisan, Senate-passed legislation to fund the law-abiding parts of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) while negotiations over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue:

House Republicans had the opportunity to bring a bipartisan, Senate-passed funding bill to the floor and end this unnecessary shutdown. Had they done so, the law-abiding agencies under DHS would be funded, the dedicated public servants who keep our country running – including TSA agents, Coast Guard members, and FEMA personnel – would be paid, and the air travel delays afflicting Americans across the country would be resolved.

“House Republican leadership chose instead to extend the DHS shutdown by advancing legislation that has no viable path to passage in the Senate. They brought forward legislation that prioritizes additional funding for ICE without any meaningful safeguards to address the disturbing pattern of aggressive enforcement tactics that has terrorized communities and resulted in the tragic death of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

“Congress should not approve additional funding for operations that include masked agents breaking into homes and vehicles without judicial warrants. Americans should not tolerate lawless brutality from a federal agency, and ICE should not receive additional funding until these abuses are addressed.

“It is not too late to do the right thing. Speaker Johnson can still bring the Senate-passed bill to the floor, reopen the law-abiding entities of DHS, and ensure that public servants are paid. He should.”

Rutherford Statement on CR to End DHS Shutdown

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman John Rutherford (4th District of Florida)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday, U.S. Congressman John H. Rutherford (FL-05) released the following statement on the Continuing Resolution (CR) to reopen and fund the Department of Homeland Security:

“Over the last 40 days, Senate Democrats have held our Department of Homeland Security, and the safety and security of the American people, hostage,” saidRutherford. “They have denied more than 100,000 American families billions in take-home pay, stopped critical training for U.S. Secret Service, FEMA, TSA, and the Coast Guard, hindered investigations into drug trafficking, cybercrime, child exploitation, and human trafficking, halted preparations for major upcoming events like the FIFA World Cup and America 250, and created chaos at our nation’s airports.”

“The bill that the Senate passed, in the dead of night with only five Senators present in the Chamber, defunds law enforcement by reducing funding for CBP and ICE to ZERO and leaves us exposed to critical attacks and open borders, endangering the lives of American citizens. This is unacceptable. While I would rather see a full-year funding bill pass than a CR, I will not vote to defund ICE and CBP. That is why I voted yes on the CR last night to extend funding for these critical agencies until May 22, 2026.

“The hardworking men and women at TSA, FEMA, CISA, Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, ICE, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Coast Guard must be paid for the important work they are doing right now to keep Americans safe. National security is neither a game nor a political bargaining chip. Last night, I was proud to vote to pay law enforcement, protect the American public, and reopen the Department of Homeland Security on the House floor.”

Golden votes against House Republicans’ DHS dodge

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02)

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) voted tonight against a 60-day Continuing Resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and urged House leadership to call a vote on the bipartisan, full-year appropriation approved earlier this week by the Senate.

“For more than a month, the DHS shutdown has caused chaos at airports as TSA agents have gone without pay, while our Coast Guard and emergency agencies are undermined without funding from Congress,” Golden said. “I have voted for every bill to fund DHS since before the shutdown began, and I remain open to any serious proposal with a real path toward becoming law. I see no reason to believe this 60-day stopgap will pass the Senate anytime soon, so I could not support the House GOP’s effort to keep kicking the can down the road. The Senate passed a bipartisan compromise that ensures funding for every agency in DHS for the full fiscal year. It’s time for House Republicans to take the deal.”

The Senate bill would fund all of DHS except for immigration agencies, which are already funded through the GOP’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Earlier this week, Golden signed a discharge petition to force a vote on a similar bill in the House of Representatives.

Davids Slams House Leadership for Blocking Bipartisan Deal to Fully Reopen Government

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-3)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Representative Sharice Davids released the below statement after U.S. House Republican leadership refused to vote on a bipartisan funding deal — already passed by the Senate — to support the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Coast Guard, and other critical programs. This deal, which ensures federal workers are paid, does not include immigration-related agencies, as funding for those was already approved last year under a separate partisan budget.

Instead, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who called the bipartisan deal a “joke,” pushed a partisan funding package with little chance of becoming law. Davids is urging House leaders to pass the bipartisan agreement immediately and continue negotiations on comprehensive, bipartisan immigration enforcement reform.

“Across Kansas and the country, federal workers go without pay and travelers wait in long TSA lines all because House Republican politicians are putting politics ahead of people’s livelihoods,” said Davids. “I support the bipartisan agreement passed in the Senate to fund TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard — a solution I’ve been pushing for weeks to end this partial shutdown. Yet, once again, politics is being put ahead of people’s livelihoods, which is exactly why Kansans are so fed up with the federal government. I won’t give up. We must reach a bipartisan agreement to get federal workers paid and also continue negotiating real, bipartisan immigration reforms that respect the law and protect every Kansan’s safety and security.”

BREAKING: Pressley-Led Effort to Extend Haiti TPS Secures Majority Support, Moves To Floor Vote

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07)

Discharge Petition Reaches 218 Signatures Needed to Move Forward

WASHINGTON – On Friday, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s (MA-07) discharge petition to force a House vote on extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti successfully met the 218-signature threshold to move forward with bipartisan support. The motion, which would require the Trump Administration to extend TPS for Haiti for three years, is set to be voted on within the coming weeks.

“The success of this discharge petition is a testament to our collective organizing and the strength of our broad, diverse movement to affirm the humanity, dignity, and safety of our Haitian siblings,” said Congresswoman Pressley. “Throughout the nation, Haitians are parents, workers, caregivers, faith leaders, business owners, and children who are deeply rooted in our communities, essential to our economy, and are shamefully at risk of being deported to an island grappling with a devastating humanitarian crisis. Today we are a critical step closer to saving lives and delivering the protections they deserve. The House must vote on this and I urge all of my colleagues to strongly support.”

Congresswoman Pressley serves as Co-Chair for the House Haiti Caucus and represents one of the largest Haitian diaspora communities in the country. She has stood in vigorous defense for Haitian communities and all immigrant neighbors amid Trump and ICE’s attacks against immigrant communities.

Congresswoman Pressley has been a leading voice in Congress pushing back against Trump’s threats to terminate Temporary Protected Status for Haitians.

In March 2026, Rep. Pressley joined Haitian faith leaders and advocates to urge the Supreme Court to affirm the lower courts’ rulings that deemed Trump’s push to terminate Haiti TPS unlawful.

In February 2026, Rep. Pressley applauded a federal judge’s ruling to temporarily block Trump’s move to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. Ending TPS for Haitians would leave over 350,000 Haitian nationals at risk of deportation, many of whom reside in the Massachusetts 7th congressional district.

In January 2026, Congresswoman Pressley, alongside Senator Markey, held a field hearing on the importance of extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti. She documented this testimony in the legislative record. Footage from the hearing is available here and photos here.

In January 2026, Rep. Pressley also organized a press conference in D.C. in January to sound the alarm on the harm of terminating TPS for Haiti on seniors and the U.S. care economy.

  • On June 28, 2025, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) issued the following statement condemning the Trump Administration’s abominable termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti effective September 2nd, 2025.
  • On June 5, 2025, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) issued the following statement on Donald Trump’s executive order that bans citizens of 12 countries, including Haiti, from traveling to the United States, and places partial restrictions on citizens of seven more nations.
  • On March 18, 2025,  Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (NY-09), and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) led 62 of their colleagues in the House and 23 of their colleagues in the Senate in a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem demanding the Trump Administration redesignate and extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, which the administration recently canceled on questionable legal authority:
  • On February 20, 2025, Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Yvette Clarke (NY-12), and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20) issued the following statement condemning the Trump Administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti.
  • On April 23, 2024, Rep. Pressley, alongside Co-Chairs Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20), led a group of 50 lawmakers urging the Biden Administration to redesignate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), pause on deportations back to Haiti, extend humanitarian parole to any Haitians currently detained in Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s detention centers, end detention of Haitian migrants intercepted at sea, and provide additional humanitarian assistance for Haiti.
  • On April 18, 2024, Rep. Pressley and Haiti Caucus Co-Chairs led a letter to House Ways and Means Committee leadership emphasizing support for the early renewal of the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement (HOPE) and the Haiti Economic Lift Program (HELP) Acts, commonly known as HOPE/HELP.
  • On April 12, 2024, Rep. Pressley joined Haitian-led activists, organizations, and a directly impacted person in Haiti for a press call urging federal action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Haiti.
  • On March 27, 2024, Rep. Pressley joined Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and her colleagues on the Massachusetts congressional delegation in urging the Biden Administration to expedite visa processing for Haitians, particularly  for relatives of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents.
  • On March 12, 2024, Rep. Pressley and Haiti Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Cherfilus McCormick and Yvette Clarke issued a statement on the resignation of Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
  • On March 6, 2024, Rep. Pressley issued a statement on the recent jailbreak and State of Emergency in Haiti.
  • On December 8, 2023, Rep. Pressley and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke urged the U.S. Department of State to withdraw U.S. support for an armed foreign intervention in Haiti and encourage negotiations for a Haitian-led democratic political transition.
  • On December 6, 2022, Rep. Pressley issued a statement applauding the Biden Administration’s extension and re-designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti.
  • On December 1, 2022, Rep. Pressley, Rep. Cori Bush, and Rep. Mondaire Jones led 14 of their colleagues on a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas urging the Department to extend and redesignate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

  • On May 31, 2022, Rep. Pressley and Reverend Dieufort Fleurissaint, chair of Haitian Americans United, published an op-ed in the Bay State Banner in which they called on the Biden administration to withdraw support for de facto ruler of Haiti, Ariel Henry, and instead support an inclusive, civil society-led process to restore stability and democracy on the island.
  • On May 26, 2022, Rep. Pressley, along with with Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Andy Levin (MI-09), Jim McGovern (MA-02), and Frederica Wilson (FL-24), led a letter to United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Power urging her to act to ensure food security in Haiti.
  • In February 2022, Reps. Pressley, Judy Chu (CA-27), and Nydia Velázquez (NY-07) led 33 other House Democrats on a letter to CDC Director Walensky demanding answers about the agency’s justification for treating asylum seekers as a unique public health threat, how these expulsions are being coordinated, how asylum seekers being returned to dangerous situations are being cared for, and more. Days later, Rep. Pressley once again called on the Biden Administration to reverse the Title 42 Order and other anti-Black immigration policies.
  • On March 16, 2022, Rep. Pressley and Rep. Mondaire Jones called on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky to fully end Title 42, cease deportations of people to Haiti and affirm their legal and fundamental human right to seek asylum.
  • On February 16, 2022, Rep. Pressley joined Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01), Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), and 100 House and Senate colleagues in urging President Biden to reverse inhumane immigration policies – such as Title 42, originally introduced under the Trump Administration – that continue to disproportionately harm Black migrants.
  • On February 14, 2022, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), alongside Representatives Judy Chu (CA-27) and Nydia Velázquez (NY-07), led 33 other House Democrats on a letter to Rochelle Walensky, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, demanding answers about the agency’s justification for treating asylum seekers as a unique public health threat, how these expulsions are being coordinated, how asylum seekers being returned to dangerous situations are being cared for, and more.
  • In April 2022, she joined her colleagues at a press conference reaffirming her support for President Biden’s decision to end Title 42. • In September 2022, Rep. Pressley joined her colleagues on the House Oversight Committee in demanding answers regarding the inhumane treatment of migrants in Del Rio, Texas, by Border Patrol agents on horseback and pushing to Biden Administration to end the ongoing use and weaponization of Title 42.
