Washington, D.C. — Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), delivered $4.5 million in funding through the Fiscal Year 2026 Agriculture appropriations bill to replace the Trappe Volunteer Fire Company’s aging firehouse.

The funding will replace the aging 1951 firehouse with a new single-story, pre-engineered facility that improves firefighter safety, strengthens emergency response capabilities, and better protects the Trappe community.

A new firehouse will give these firefighters the space and equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), announced $40 million in FY26 Energy and Water Development funding for a new shallow-draft dredging vessel for East Coast navigation channels. The funding addresses sediment buildup that has limited vessel access in Maryland and other heavily used East Coast waterways.

The FY26 appropriations bill includes language authored by Congressman Harris requiring the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to use the $40 million provided to replace Dredge Currituck. Dredge Currituck is one of only two shallow-draft dredges in the Corps’ fleet and has no private-sector equivalent. Replacing Dredge Currituck will restore dredging capacity needed to maintain navigation channels and reduce hazards caused by sediment buildup along the East Coast, including in Maryland.

The legislation also allocates more than $375 million for coastal storm protection and beach management projects nationwide, supporting shoreline maintenance and protecting coastal communities from erosion and storm impacts.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO-06), a combat veteran and member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and House Armed Services Committee, introduced bipartisan legislation, the No Funds for NATO Invasion Act, to prohibit the use of federal funds for an invasion of any North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member state or NATO-protected territory.

Introducing the bill alongside Crow were Representatives Don Bacon (R-NE-02), Bill Keating (D-MA-09), Steny Hoyer (D-MD-05), and Brendan Boyle (D-PA-02).

“America is at our strongest when we honor our alliances and stand by our allies,” said Congressman Crow. “NATO has been a cornerstone of keeping Americans safe, and undermining our alliances through reckless military adventurism puts Americans at risk. The American people don’t want more foreign intervention. They want lower costs and a smart foreign policy to keep us safe.”

Congressman Crow’s No Funds for NATO Invasion Act would:

• Prohibit any federal funds from being made available for the invasion of a NATO member state or any territory protected by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
• Prohibit any officer or employee of the United States from taking any action to execute an invasion of a NATO member state or any territory protected by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Earlier this week, Crow called on the Trump Administration to abandon its attempts at nation-building abroad and instead focus on lowering costs and making life more affordable for Americans at home.

Crow also recently met with leaders from Denmark and Greenland, including Danish Ambassador to the United States Jesper Møller Sørensen and Head of Greenland Representation in the United States Jacob Isbosethsen.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO-06), a combat veteran and Co-Chair of the House Democratic Caucus National Security Task Force, today called on the Trump Administration to focus on lowering costs and making life more affordable for Americans at home, rather than his ongoing nation building exercises and foreign conflicts abroad.

Crow was joined at the weekly House Democratic Caucus press conference by Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu, and fellow Co-Chairs of House Democrats’ National Security Task Force Representatives Maggie Goodlander and Derek Tran.

In his remarks, Crow said:

“As a three-time combat veteran, I get pretty damn hot when a five-time draft dodger like Donald Trump pounds his chest and bangs the war drums in Washington, talking about sending boots on the ground. We’re not even a year into this administration, and President Trump has bombed seven countries. He doesn’t seem to see a problem that he doesn’t think he can bomb his way out of.

“I learned years ago that when elites like Donald Trump bang the war drums and pound their chests in Washington, D.C. and talk about sending troops into the ground or into combat, he’s not talking about his kids. He’s not talking about all of his minions’ kids. He’s talking about kids like me and the people that I grew up with in working-class areas, rural places around the country that have to pick up rifles, jump in the tanks or helicopters, and do the thing. And do the tough work. 

“Well, America is over it. America is over the $3 trillion we’ve spent. The quagmires of failed nation-building. The sending of our sons and daughters and brothers and sisters to enrich oil executives. America is over endless adventurism and using our military. Because they want their infrastructure rebuilt, they want quality, affordable health care, they want to be able to afford groceries, they want to be able to afford a home, and they want to be able to send their kids to school. Those are the things that we are relentlessly focused on as a Democratic Caucus.

“Now, don’t get me wrong: there is a time for strength, there is a time for standing by our allies, and there are certainly times when our military has to go to keep us safe. But what have we accomplished in Venezuela? The Maduro regime remains intact. Sitting here today, two weeks after this mission, the Venezuelan people are under more oppression than they were before, because of the crackdowns. Americans are at greater risk. The cartels are running rampant and free with no crackdown whatsoever. And the drugs that actually are killing our children, fentanyl and meth, don’t even come from Venezuela. They come from other countries. 

“So, I want to know how many billions of dollars this administration has spent to remove somebody that Donald Trump simply does not like, and put in another dictator that he thinks will do his bidding. I want to know, and the American taxpayers deserve to know, how much time and money have been spent on their behalf. America is over it. 

“We’re going to push for War Powers Reform. We’re going to reassert our constitutional authority, because it is not just our right, it is our duty to stand in the breach and take the votes and tell any President, Republican or Democrat, that you can’t continue to send our men and women around the world into harm’s way without a debate and vote in this body.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed a third package of two full-year FY26 appropriations bills, including Financial Services and General Government, and National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs.

“Chairman Cole is leading an effort many doubted was possible and one that has not been accomplished in some time: restoring regular order in the appropriations process. With the passage of today’s third minibus, the House has now advanced more than half of the twelve appropriations bills required to reach the finish line. Each of these bills has been finalized through good-faith negotiations in both chambers and on both sides of the aisle.

“This two-bill package protects Americans by combating illicit drugs entering our country, promotes stability by focusing resources on allies that advance U.S. interests, and enhances accountability by preventing adversaries from exploiting U.S. assistance. It also modernizes government operations by reining in a weaponized IRS, bolsters economic growth by supporting entrepreneurship and small business development, and counters malign cyberattacks by strengthening technology defenses.

“Not only is this a fiscally responsible package that cuts billions in spending, it demonstrates a stronger approach to governing that delivers cost-saving results for taxpayers.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-09), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, will lead congressional oversight of the Federal Communications Commission as the agency works to close the digital divide, secure America’s communications networks, and strengthen U.S. leadership in wireless innovation. 

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr will testify alongside Commissioners Anna Gomez and Olivia Trusty.

“The FCC had an active 2025 that can be summed up in one word: deregulation,” said Rep. Hudson. “Under Chairman Carr, the FCC has taken significant steps to reduce barriers to broadband deployment, modernize outdated regulatory regimes, and delete obsolete rules.”

During the hearing, Hudson will focus on several major issues before the FCC, including:

• Modernizing outdated broadcast ownership rules so local broadcasters can compete in today’s media marketplace.
• ExecutingCongress’s direction to auction 800 MHz of spectrum for commercial use to strengthen America’s leadership in 5G and 6G. Hudson noted the FCC has already identified at least 100 MHz for auction.
• Reformingthe Universal Service Fund (USF) to ensure long-term sustainability and that support reaches the right people, including rural communities, schools and libraries, rural health centers, and low-income households.
• Cutting red tape to speed broadband deployment and help close the digital divide.
• Strengthening Next Generation 911 technology, so emergency networks are reliable and interoperable.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Richard Hudson commends House Energy and Commerce Committee leaders for the hearing on ways to protect America’s energy infrastructure from cyber and physical threats.

“Grid security is national security,” said Hudson. “We saw that firsthand in Moore County in 2022, when a deliberate attack left tens of thousands without power. Cyber and physical threats put lives and communities at risk, and we have to take them seriously.”

Hudson’s statement comes as the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy holds a legislative hearing on safeguarding the nation’s energy infrastructure. The hearing is being led by Rep. Bob Latta, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy, and Rep. Brett Guthrie, Chairman of the full House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The Subcommittee hearing, titled Protecting America’s Energy Infrastructure in Today’s Cyber and Physical Threat Landscape, is examining multiple bills aimed at strengthening cybersecurity defenses, improving physical security, and enhancing collaboration between government and private-sector energy providers.

The issue is personal for Hudson and his constituents. In December 2022, a deliberate physical attack on electrical substations in Moore County, North Carolina, left more than 45,000 residents without power for days during a winter cold spell. Homes lost heat, medical facilities lost power, schools and small businesses were forced to close, and the outage ultimately contributed to the loss of a life. The attack exposed serious vulnerabilities in grid security and emergency preparedness.

Since the Moore County attack, Hudson has led a focused effort to strengthen grid security, including:

• Immediate response: toured the Duke Energy substation that was attacked and met with utilities, law enforcement, and local officials.
• Security briefings: organized a classified FBI briefing for Members of Congress on threats to U.S. electrical infrastructure.
• Committeeleadership: brought Energy and Commerce to Moore County for a field hearing, including substation site visits and expert testimony.
• Legislative action: authored and advanced the Protecting America’s Distribution Transformer Supply Chain Act, previously passed out of committee.
• Fundingdelivered: secured $1.6 billion to strengthen grid security through FY24 energy and water appropriations.

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02) formally introduced articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. So far, 70 Members of Congress have cosponsored Rep. Kelly’s impeachment resolution.

“Secretary Noem has brought her reign of terror to Chicago, LA, Minneapolis, and communities from north to south, east to west. She needs to be impeached for her actions,” said Rep. Kelly at a press conference introducing articles of impeachment. “Secretary Noem has called my impeachment effort ‘silly.’ I want to tell her right now: You have violated your oath of office and there will be consequences. I am watching you. The American people are watching you. And most of all, we are not liking what we are seeing. If you believe impeachment is ‘silly,’ then you are not taking your job or our Constitution seriously.”

This morning at the press conference, Rep. Kelly was joined by U.S. Reps. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), who is also the Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Maxine Dexter (OR-03), Nydia Velázquez (NY-07), and cosponsors of the impeachment resolution.

The Constitution gives the U.S. House sole power of impeachment. Rep. Kelly introduced three articles of impeachment:

1. Obstruction of Congress

Secretary Noem violated her constitutional oath and refused to comply with the law that prohibits the Department of Homeland Security from preventing a Member of Congress from entering a DHS facility used to detain undocumented immigrants.

Rep. Kelly has tried to enter the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview, Illinois, but was denied, despite following Secretary Noem’s unlawful seven-day notice. There’s been documentation of six other instances in which Members of Congress have tried to enter an ICE facility and was denied in Texas, Colorado, California, New York, Virginia and Washington.

2. Violation of Public Trust

Secretary Noem has repeatedly violated the Immigration and Nationality Act, the First and Fourth Amendments of the United States Constitution. She’s also broken due process by directing ICE to conduct warrantless arrests and use violence against US citizens and lawful individuals.

During Secretary Noem’s “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicago, federal agents used excessive force, in some cases injuring or killing, residents. Federal agents used military-style tactics to raid an apartment building in South Shore, detaining U.S. citizens for hours without warrants or reason for arrest. These dangerous actions have continued in cities across the country, including in Minneapolis, where Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed without justification.

3. Self-Dealing

Secretary Noem has misused her position for personal gain while inappropriately using $200 million taxpayer dollars to fund an ad campaign for ICE recruitment. She bypassed the normal competitive bidding process to award a contract to a firm called Strategy Group. Strategy Group was formed just days before the award and is run by the husband of senior DHS official Tricia McClaughlin, a close friend of Secretary Noem.

“The Ugandan people deserve a free and fair electoral process that allows all voters to make their voices heard. Prior elections have been marred by arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and other coercive measures intended to stifle the will of the people. These actions betray Uganda’s constitutional principles, and in concert with the detention of opposition leaders such as Kizze Besigye and threats by Uganda’s military chief against presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, present clear risks for the 2026 elections.

“The Ugandan government must guarantee a transparent and accountable electoral process allowing all voters to cast their ballots without fear of retribution. Any efforts to limit the right to vote, manipulate results, or restrict freedom of speech, expression, and peaceful assembly must be investigated and the responsible parties held to account.

“Ensuring free and fair elections is in keeping with the principles of equality, democracy, freedom, and social justice guaranteed in the Ugandan constitution. It also provides the foundation for a peaceful, more prosperous future benefiting all of Uganda’s citizens.

“This promising future grows all the more elusive as those in power curtail and abuse basic human rights and erode Uganda’s civic space. The Ugandan government has repeatedly sought to try opposition politicians in military courts, despite the country’s supreme court ruling the practice unconstitutional, and in 2025 adopted a new law allowing military courts to try civilians. Other laws, such as the Anti-Homosexuality Act, which permits the death penalty for homosexual acts, pose a serious threat to the lives and freedoms of LGBTQ+ Ugandans and jeopardize the public health and economic prosperity of all Ugandans. Further restrictions on civil society organizations threaten to systematically compromise the freedom of association. 

“The Congressional Black Caucus cherishes the United States’ longstanding partnership with Uganda. We will continue to champion efforts to strengthen cooperation between our two countries that protect individual freedom and promote transparent and accountable governance.”

Washington, D.C. – Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will lead Democrats on the committee in holding a special meeting on Venezuela.

Despite repeated requests from Ranking Member Meeks, Chairman Brian Mast has refused to hold public hearings on the administration’s actions in the Caribbean and Venezuela policy. Secretary of State Rubio and Deputy Secretary of State Landau have turned down an invitation to attend this special meeting and answer questions publicly about the administration’s objectives in Venezuela. The meeting will be an opportunity for HFAC Members to gather assessments from former diplomats to the region.
