GOP’s budget bill prioritizes Trump’s brutal immigration agenda over lowering costs for Americans
June 09, 2026
Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Jared Huffman voted against House Republicans’ latest reconciliation package, which would provide tens of billions of dollars in new funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) while failing to lower costs for American families.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I will not vote to give ICE a blank check to continue their reign of terror. Families are struggling to afford basic necessities like groceries, gas, and housing. Trump and the GOP took affordable healthcare away from millions of Americans to pay for their billionaire tax breaks. Instead of working to fix the problems they created, Republicans just passed a $70 billion for ICE and Border Patrol. And they flat out rejected Democratic amendments to stop Trump from giving $1.8 billion in taxpayer dollars to right-wing allies and violent insurrectionists. It’s all breathtakingly disconnected from what Americans are asking Congress to do,” said Rep. Huffman. “Taxpayer dollars should be used to make life better and more affordable for Americans, not the political grievances, vanity projects, and cruel ideological crusades Trump and his cronies are focused on.”
