Reps. Frankel, Bilirakis Lead Bipartisan Resolution Honoring Korean War Veterans

Washington, DC — Today, on National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, Representatives Lois Frankel (D-FL-22) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL-12) introduced a bipartisan resolution honoring the courage and sacrifice of Korean War Veterans, as well as Korean Defense Veterans who have served on the Korean Peninsula since the signing of the Armistice Agreement.

“Veterans of the Korean War fought with extraordinary courage to defend South Korea’s freedom and democracy,” said Rep. Frankel. “On National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, we honor their sacrifice, along with the generations of Korean Defense Veterans who have continued protecting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. The heroes of the ‘Forgotten War’ must never be overlooked, and they deserve the lasting gratitude of both the American and South Korean people.”

“Veterans of the Korean War stood on the front lines in defense of freedom, democracy, and the values that define our nation. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment helped preserve peace on the Korean Peninsula and prevented the spread of tyranny during one of the most consequential conflicts of the 20th century,” said Rep. Bilirakis. “It is our honor to introduce this resolution recognizing their extraordinary service and ensuring their contributions are never forgotten. For too long, the Veterans of the ‘Forgotten War’ have not received the recognition they so richly deserve. We must also honor the brave men and women who have served on the Korean Peninsula in the decades since, continuing to deter aggression and uphold stability in the region. Their dedication represents the very best of American service and sacrifice. With this resolution, we reaffirm our commitment to remembering these heroes, honoring their legacy, and expressing our deepest gratitude for the sacrifices they made – and continue to make – in defense of freedom around the world.”

The resolution is cosponsored by 10 Members: Reps. Ed Case (D-HI-01), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05), Susie Lee (D-NV-03), Grace Meng (D-NY-06), James Moylan (R-GU-At Large), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC-At Large), Titus Dina (D-NV-01), Nikema Williams (D-GA-05), and Rob Wittman (R-VA-01). It is endorsed by the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA) and the Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC).
