WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (CA-08) released new data showing how Donald Trump’s economic agenda and Republicans in Congress are increasing everyday costs for families in Solano and Contra Costa Counties, including higher prices for groceries, health care, housing, and other basic needs. The report was prepared using data compiled by the House Budget Committee.

“Solano and Contra Costa County families were promised lower prices. Instead, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress have delivered higher grocery bills, rising rents, and more expensive utility costs,” said Rep. Garamendi. “This report makes clear that Trump’s tariff taxes are simply a national sales tax on working families, and that Republicans are doubling down on an agenda that makes it harder for families to get by while handing tax breaks to their billionaire donors.”

Key district highlights include:

  • +$1,960— average annual hit for 257,710 working-and middle-class families in CA-08 thanks to Donald Trump’s tariff taxes and his Big Ugly Law;

  • +$2,355 – average additional cost to California families for basic living expenses under Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans so far, including an increase of $482 for housing costs;

  • 40,480 people in CA-08 will lose health coverage because of Republican cuts to Medicaid, also known in California as Medi-Cal, in the Big Ugly Law and Republicans’ decision to end enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits.
