Today, Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-03) released the following statement celebrating the House passage of the SAVE America Act.
“Free, fair, and secure elections are the foundation of our democracy. Americans deserve to trust that when election results are announced, they reflect the lawful will of the people. Today’s passage of the SAVE America Act marks an important first step toward strengthening safeguards, improving accountability, and reinforcing public trust in our democratic process. I am proud to support this measure and look forward to working with my Senate colleagues to advance it to the President’s desk.”
Background on the SAVE America Act:
The SAVE America Act strengthens election integrity by:
- Requiring individuals to present an eligible photo identification document when voting to verify identity.
- Requiring in-person proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.
- Directing states to implement procedures to identify and remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls, consistent with federal law and due process protections.
