Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Norma Torres, Chair of the New Democrat Coalition Housing, Infrastructure, and Transportation Working Group, helped unveil the New Democrat Coalition’s Affordability Agenda, a comprehensive plan to lower five of the biggest costs facing hardworking Americans: health care, housing, energy, family care, and groceries.
After promising to lower prices “on day one,” President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have failed to deliver meaningful relief. They have driven prices up through chaotic tariff policies and stripped away health care from millions of Americans. As a result, families continue to feel the strain of higher costs and economic uncertainty.
The New Dem Affordability Agenda offers a clear alternative, rolling back harmful policies that drive up prices, promoting competition and small businesses, cutting unnecessary red tape to build more housing and energy infrastructure, and strengthening programs that help families make ends meet.
“Affordability is about whether working families can build a stable life,” said Congresswoman Torres. “You should be able to afford a home, put food on the table, pay your bills, and access health care without going into debt. The New Democrat Coalition’s Affordability Agenda lays out practical, commonsense steps to lower costs and restore opportunity for families across the country.”
The Agenda outlines next steps to advance these policies in Congress and urges the Administration to reverse policies that have contributed to higher prices.
