DelBene on Trump Tariff Vote: “Republicans knew all along these tariffs were hurting their constituents”

Washington, D.C., February 11, 2026

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement on the successful House vote to repeal Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Canada.

“Today’s vote proves that Republicans knew all along that Trump’s tariffs were hurting their constituents but were too afraid to stand up to him. Republicans tried to hide for nearly a year from taking this vote, but Democrats were finally able to break Speaker Johnson’s blockade. No more hiding!

“This is the first vote to restore Congressional authority and repeal Trump’s tariffs. We will keep holding Republicans accountable for raising prices on families and fighting to end Trump’s senseless trade war. The Senate must now take up this measure.”

Background

  • DelBene led the initial resolution to force the vote on Trump’s Canada and Mexico tariffs. Republicans used procedural mechanisms to prevent the resolutions from being called up for a vote for nearly a year.
  • She introduced legislation to make clear that the President must come to Congress before putting sweeping tariffs in place using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
  • ICYMI: DelBene spoke on the House floor yesterday, slamming Republicans for trying to hide from this vote yet again.
