Tonko Statement Calling Out Trump’s Russia-Ukraine ‘Peace’ Plan

AMSTERDAM, NY — Congressman Paul D. Tonko (NY-20) released the following statement on President Trump’s proposed Russia-Ukraine peace deal:

I am appalled by President Trump’s peace agreement that amounts to a betrayal our Ukrainian allies. This proposal would require surrendering territory currently under Ukrainian control to Russia, a pledge to never join NATO, and a reduction of Ukraine’s armed forces. This plan utterly fails the people of Ukraine who have fought, bled, and died defending their freedom, all while giving major concessions to the aggressor of this war, Russia.

I believe everyone would like to see an end to Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine, and I remain committed to supporting President Zelenskyy to seek peace in a manner that preserves Ukraine’s sovereignty and security in both the near- and long-term.
